  • LOL, @ 1:12 FDR also said that Unions should never have public influence. Guess he didn't want to have to deal with them.

  • Only a despot would require someone to support an organization they disagree with, to have a job.

  • @specialtymachining Considering only 12% of our work force is Union I would think if a person wanted to work non-union they could find ample opportunities to do so. When a company goes Union the majority of those employees must vote in favor. It's democratic, just like our government.

  • @nktank84 Well, that sounds good on the surface, but democratic is not always right. The majority @ a lynching support it as well. I guess the biggest problem is the political action unions take, which violate some of their members' principles. If the union is so great why aren't dues voluntary? There are a lot of Charities that operate this way. Fortunately we do have the right to turn down the job, for now. Often herd mentality is detrimental.

  • @specialtymachining A lynching? Really? I've heard it all now. Yea they lynched corporations into giving us a 40 hr work week instead 84. They lynched safety programs out of them too so that thousands no longer die in our country like they do in China. It's awful isn't it? Don't ya just hate getting time and a half when you work over 40 hrs. Whay are you so eager to destroy the thing that enabled Americans to have such great lives? great? I just don't get it.

  • @nktank84 You have some good points there. If I comb my hair the right way you can see my point. But, you have no idea what it is like to be self employed & get paid what you're worth, which isn't a lot, considering I have to do the books, maintenance, shipping & receiving, talking with customers, cut firewood, & then in my spare time do some machine work which actually pays. A 40 hour week is absentee business ownership. I made ~$35K gross last year, with NO benefits.

  • @specialtymachining I know all about running a small business I grew up in a welding shop. My dad was a small contractor for the mines here for over a decade. I was talking about the average workerbeing forced to work 7 days a week 2 hrs a day for pennies an hour.

  • @specialtymachining I don't agree with everything my union does, I'm not brainwashed or naive. But I got a good payin job with great benefits, without the union I would never have benefits do to the short term nature of the work. Dues aren't voluntary because there are too many selfish assholes who want all the benefits of being union without giving anything. Most of the dues I've paid have went to the giant training center my hall just built for us to keep our skills sharp.

  • @nktank84 Are there really that many selfish people? Most of my single man machine shop customers are people who hold to the Golden Rule of love your neighbor as yourself. Maybe I'm living a blessed existence.

  • Fantastic! SIUNA "Brotherhood"
