How did you do? Also if your worried about NYSSMA try ISSMA its the Indiana one! My judge told me he has high expectations when he has people play from my school all the judges do... IT SUCKS
I think I did ehhh okay-ish but the judge definitely seemed angry because my appointment was the last one of the day on Saturday (4 PM) I definitely screwed up the sight reading but my piece (movements 2 & 3) were pretty good
Dude tight job what did you get, participation, bronze, silver, or gold? I got particpation but then again he did he is banned from ever judge at any ssma contest again....

i know this was written for cello but i think it sounds a little better on the guitar, that is just my personal opinion so dont take it personal oll you cellists. my take is that if the cello had sustain of its own then it would probably sound better on cello! nevertheless this is great music!!
Have you ever played a cello? A good cello has tons of sustain. The bow makes this instrument out sustain any guitar I have ever heard. Oh yeah, there's no o in genius. But, you probably knew that.
I meant that you have to have to keep the bow moving in order to keep the sound going, i know that a good cello has tons of sustain if you play pizz. and i do play cello. also i didnt mean to write genious i meant genio(spanish for genius) but anyway i didnt mean for anybody to take this too personally, i should have explained myself better.
I don't think the slowing down works well for this song. He's obviously a good cellist but some times in the video, I just want to punch him in the face.
Who doesn't althought don't tell anyone I don't know anyone who can appreciate them like some people here on youtube. I never really appreciated them until I started learning them all. Think about the hours of work put into that piece. For bach to write it out and have someone play it then edit it and now he has to learn to play it and listen to how well he plays it too!
Mischa is playing this movement (Allemande from suite 3) very carefully and deliberately. It works well at a faster tempo. I once used it for an audition with great success, at a much faster tempo.
well that depends on how you shop. Cello isn't terribly expensive, but it definately pricier than violin or viola. when i bought mine i was looking for a comfortable, and responsive instrument. I now have (for me at least) the best cello in the world. it had cracked down the front, and although it's now completely sound there is still a thin scar that runs under the bridge.
The sixth is the most fun to play by far. It is the only suite that goes above the G4. When I first played the prelude I played for hours until it was memorized and then I played it for my teacher. Great Suite. If you are working This movement you should really look into Allegro Appassionato by Saint Saens great music right for your level!!
What a great song! Kol Nidrei and Allegro Apassionato are both at similar difficulties. Kol Nidrei is a little slower but requires big vibrato at the same time sensitive vibrato. Very emotional. Some of the rythms are difficult. A little bit of thumb position. Allegro Apassionato is very fast and very expressive difficult bowings and somewhat hard rythms.
I like his heavy breathing, it's like Chef and making love.

You're right. Guitar does have a more sustaining sound but the price is that they have a more metronome like sound.

and why is that??
fercha90s 2 years ago
To me, the song sounds more lively and dance-like than many of the other movements. It disrupts the flow of the piece.

it seems like this would go beter with the first cello suite

The third suite is superior.

One of my favorite of Bach's 36 Movements from the six cello suites. I'm also very fond of Gigue from NO.2 and Prelude and Sarabande from No.6
