There is a much easier way to do this. Click any song that is already in your iPod/phone and just turn the volume down to zero. DONE. Or you stuff around with this for no real benefit

my wifi doesnt turn off when my ipod is in sleep mode but randomly my wifi disconnects from my router and after a second or 2 or maybe longer it comes back on and i want to know what the problem is it started happening a few days ago

@EriCesC1 Yeah that's just the nature of the iPod Touch. This probably won't solve it completely. But yeah it's a nice little thing to do.

But I don't recommend doing this on a 2nd gen or a 3G iPhone running 4.0. Your battery and performance will just go away.
