Amazing mix and , of course... amazing dog. ONE MAJOR POINT...BLOAT!!!! I just lost my beautiful, amazing purebred shepherd to bloat and I didn't know the signs. If your GSD is acting restless and vomiting only white frothy foam, get them to the vet immediately. I did a "wait and see" and my faithful companion died in severe pain hours later on the operating table. MINUTES matter!!

My GSD died too, last week, she bled into her spleen and liver, they think it was cancer related. now I only have 1 GSD and She still looks for her friend and sits and whines. We're gonna get another one in the spring though.

Awesome video! Currently raising my second boy, who just turned 6 months old and weighs a bit over 63 lbs. The intelligence is often frightening and cannot be underestimated even by so-called 'trainers' (PETSMART, et all). All dogs do not need to be given treats to get them to do what they are bred to do. If bred and raised correctly they do it because, well, they're GERMAN SHEPHERDS. If not GSDs, then maybe you're lucky enough to have a well bred Rottie.

There is nothing wrong with using treats to teach, Even the Top Schutzhund trainers will use treats to teach, then tug as a reward once the dog understands the behaviour. Training at a big box store, well you cant expect to learn to train properly, or judge a certain style of training from there.

I have 2 (which is all the law permits) They are the best and will defend you and your family to the end! They sleep inside by the way! No point in locking them out if a burglrar gets into your home and they can't get to you!

Man, you need to calm down! Don't get a Shepherd unless you have the time to spend with them! If you are serious then you need to look at ones bred with German stock (they have the thicker noses and straight backs)! There are no distinguished breeds with Shepherds! Your dog could be long or short haired (just look at the parents)! Also if you get one be aware they are fiercly loyal to you and your family! Don't ever hit your dog though because it makes them head shy and aggressive!

Muy GS has saved my life 2 times once from a rattler and once from passing out from a seizure in my car he pulled me upright so I wouldnt choke on my saliva. They are truly the best! When he passes away they will have to bury me with him. Love you kai kai!!! To my Kaiser Von Nikko he is the best!!!

Hello HOMEOSTASIS4ME, in answer to your question about any other breed having the "nose, bravery, incorruptability, solid emotional bond, loyalty, problem-solving abiltiy" etc. of the GSD the answer is, 'Yes, try the Doberman Pinscher, Giant Schnauzer, Belgian Malinois or Rottweiler.' They all can duplicate the GSD's abilities in these areas. As for beauty, I think the Doberman is as beautiful as the GSD but in a different way and it's athletic abiltiy--speed, jumping--exceeds the GSD also.

I am not sure I agree with this. For one thing you left it at etc. but to my knowledge the GS should exceed those dogs in intelligence and probably in trainability. I would wager also in problem solving.

No dog book I have ever read has ranked the breeds you mentioned on par with the GS in terms of versatility (which is a product of many of the things he listed).

While I can see how other breeds might be more specialised, I cant see how any can be more "well rounded".

German Shepherds are a great breed, the world's premier working breed for sure, but I hate what American breeders have done to them. Bred for sloping backs and extreme angulation of the hindquarters, they have lost their former athleticism. That is why more and more police and military are using the Belgian Malinois these days---because it resembles the GSD of fifty years ago. If I got a GSD these days it would have to be from European stock, not American, or I'd get a Shiloh Shepherd.

hate to say it but the top of the line dog is a GSD.if you just look back some you can see that the GSD has been used for more jobs and is one of best dogs you can get.i have 2 GSD and they are the best dogs i have ever had always right beside me.i have never had i problem out of them i have a ferret and those two play with my him.but the only dog i can think of that comes close to a GS is a rott. they are harder to train but once you can get them trained they make a great dog.hope that helps

My GSD has NO PAPERS, unless you mean the ones he tears up all over the house, lol! He comes from a very good bloodline, well documented...screw the papers, I never filed for them because he does not give a shit about them and neither do I! He can't sire'cause his nuts are gone, so why does he need the $50 document? He has the genes...and our love...he's family; I'M THE MUTT! Greek French Chocktaw Scottish....I don't have papers, either...He's the only pure breed in our house!

I have a german shepherd. I got her from a police officer for free. My German Shepherd broke her leg on a trail and they couldn't use her anymore in the police work so a police that works with my uncle gave her to me and she is the best dog someone could ask for. She loves to walk down the street with me, go to town with me and my family, and she also loves to play with cats. She used to sleep with 8 cats and so my dog is used to cats and she even tries to sleep with my little cat.

Hi im for Australia my German shepherd is 8yrs old and has gotten hip dysplasia- i tried ordering advanced cetyl m but quarantine and customs wont let us and isnt avalible in OZ we can get cosequin ds- or flexy chews... ive got him on omega 3, glucosamine, and ester-c, can anyone help with some suggestions- treatments cures??

jjaneway1269 they on get bad hips if they were still a pup and u played with them rough that u accidently drop them or hit their hips on something hard, my american shepherd mazwell is 10 years old but he don't have no hip problems or scrawnier physiques, oh btw this is the best breed any person wants if they want protection, love, and someone to play with nicely, or even to leave their young childrens with, u can really trust GSDs. ILY GSDS they RULE the dog breeds, GO GSDs this video is awesom

Im sorry for the loss of your GSD i know how you feel i lost 1 of my GSD's Emma Pudding last year...i still have my 13 yr old who will be 14 in august...dont feel that you video isnt as good as mine or anybody elses for that matter...your video is as good as anyone elses...i still miss my Emma pud but the way i see it she was special and was needed up in doggie heaven :-) maybe we see eachother again 1 day,i imagine she will be there to greet me...im sorry for your loss again, we have memories x
