  • I can never play the part from 1:13 to 1:33 on trombone.

  • I like how this video is from 2006, the same year that Pluto was declared to no longer be a planet, which was the only planet in the solar system that Holst didn't write a song for since it was discovered just four years before his death.

  • nice, but its still twice as epic played by an orchestra

  • I have the CD version from the early 90s sounds really really good and powerfull.

  • trombones all day forget tubas and trumpets

  • you are a terrible cameraman!!!! thx for the dizzyness >:-(

  • Would you like to see a better performance of this?

type: "Tech Band performs at Georgetown"

in your search bar and search it

  • sariaru lets see you march contra in a traditional band. sousaphones are better for things that traditional bands do. i wanna see you do better

  • @demondogslayer our high school marching uses contra's....

  • @demondogslayer and we normally either get grand champion or 2nd at every compy we go to...

  • if you listen to Gustav's real band you can hear that sounds 10 times better.

  • we use this as our warm up in high school

  • those aren't cheerleaders they are the color guard

  • I remember them doing this as the halftime to a homecoming game in I think 06 or 07. it was vs w. Michigan, or something. they marched it then.

  • this song is great ..good job

  • man this pretty poorly done, i don't think it helps either that visually the cheerleaders are off beat.

  • @nixi16 It's obvious you've never played before if you think you see cheerleaders in this video (making your opinion uneducated).

  • this is pretty good

    check out

    poquoson high schools one

    on my page

  • well forget all u guys its all about the tubas

  • tubas are the shit and will the section be in other than the trombone section.

  • Comment removed

  • @Tubagod5 Word.

  • i love the colorguard with the big red balls in the front. very creative.

  • O_O Oh my, I would kill to do this song for marching... why does my band have to be a 20-man band?! D:

  • lol 13man here XD, 20 is a good year for my high school

  • ah we're playing mars this year as a part of our Civil War Show. It's supposed to represent the "drumbeats of war"

  • Earthquake at the end?

  • I play this song at my high school and im the only tuba but i still dominate!!!!!!!

  • this song sounds sooo tight if the low brass is good. just like in this band.

  • go tubas,trombones and baritones/euphoniums

  • well....too much basses in my opinion....still excellent!

  • no such thing as too many basses

  • there definitly is too...ignorant

  • Trumpets think they rule over everything, but thats because of your over pumped ego.Sousas rule and almost everyone will agree on that

  • i half agree. trumpets are in fact egotistical, but sousaphones are low brass instruments made for people too weak to hold a contra.

  • played both. They both have their challenges and drawbacks to playing.

  • ya there is like no balance among the band...its just really loud tumpets and basses!

  • lol this song never gets old still play it in band hall at the highschool -trombone player by the way go trombones!!!

  • trombones rule

  • thats a funny statement...u dont...u can try...but u dont...trumpets rule over everything

  • Trombones definitely pwn trumpets, just for the record

  • yeah i agree

  • Most def.

  • Ugh... I have to memorize this song, Toccata Fugue, and Night on Bald Mountain for marching band next fall. I play the saxophone it's gonna be tough! And we will be marching non stop.

  • THE TUBAS!!!!!!!! X)

  • I also played this in HS (in Ga) but it was combined with Jupiter and we had to memorized the piece and move around on the field. FSU did a good job with this piece, just wish they would've moved around a bit

  • This was my last year in Marching Chiefs and let me tell you it was a tough year. We had 8 home games and we do a new show each home game. So, that year we played at least one song a show where we didn't march. Learning an entire halftime show every week is a little exhausting.

  • Yeah, I totally understand. That would be exhausting. Good Job anyways :)

  • i played this in middleschool 7th grade we memorized it but we played the first line 5 times we put a bigger creshendo on each time.

  • This is a grade 5/7 on the Florida bandmasters association rating scale. I find it impressive and a bit unbelievable that you played this yet alone MEMORIZED this at your middle school band.

  • Its a grade 5 in Georgia. I played Jupiter in 8th grade, but not memorized or anything

  • tempo kicked a bit in and out.

  • well at least they didnt have to memorize the whole peice

  • i feel so bad 4 them.. im in the NFA marching band. memorizing this must have been HORRIBLE

  • in high school i played this along with jupiter and venus had to memorize them all and i played clarinet and we had full drill to the whole thing it was rough but not as bad as you'd think

  • How many members does this band have?

  • not sure but i think they had over 460 recently. hell yeah!

  • Holy shit! That includes percussion and guard, right?

  • we stopped there and played for the high school band kids since it was band day. we did march this song later in the season

  • Meh. It was better in '93. Chiefs park and blow? Who knew?

  • Probably better than the game

  • Awesome.

  • yea filmed with a camera, not a video camera, so audio pickup really sucks.

and yes i shat myself in the end, i had to pick somethin up i think..cant really remember.

  • i was there!!!!!!!

  • yall was gettin it it prob sounded better in person but yea get it!

  • oh hell yes.

  • The cameraman must've fumbled it or something, perhaps getting into the football spirit by practicing his recoveries.

  • Battery part is all over..very little relation to the music it seems in some parts of the arrangement...would have expected more from FSU

  • Don't worry guys this was performed very early in the season to the thousands of high schoolers that came to Band Day. It was marched 7 home games later. All 8 of our home games had different halftime shows, with 4 of them being back to back.

  • it sounds alot better in life people, trust me.

and also check out Mars with the orchestra. simply amazing.

  • I was there on the opposite side of the field, and I they were still balls-to-the-walls loud.

  • The color guard kind of sucks. The flag just to the right of center doesn't know the routine.

  • Yay I was there. It was fun. I thought it would be louder but they focus on playing in tune. LOL which is a good thing but I love BRASSSY LOUD marching bands.

  • this song is great ..good job

  • Well goto the google videos and search 1995 Cavaliers thereThey have it while Youtube doesn't. Not bashing you guys, but just directing you to one hell of a show

  • you need a proctologist, 'cause that Cavs show is planted squarely in your ass. Please read and understand that this show was directed at HS kids on band day.

  • A tad too slow from how it is to be played. Timing issues as I am listening to this right now. Try the 1995 Cavaliers Show, if you want to hear and see how it should be.

  • the end of it was all out cavaliers arrangement

  • My only problem with it is that... they're not marching. The point of a marching band is to march, not do stand-stills for their halftime show. It sounds great, but you need to be able to march something other than your pregame show ever week.

  • If you'll read the other comments.. you'll notice that its been explained that we only stood still and played THIS song so that we could play it towards the thousands of high school band kids that were there every day. Its true that some of our shows we don't march every song.. but the shows toward the end of the season get progressively harder with more complicated and corps-like drill. Keep in mind that we do anywhere from 6-8 shows a season.

  • I understand that. The college band I perform with also has a "Band Day" where we have the high school come and perform with us on the field. We were close to 1200 kids this year. However, the songs we played for the high school students were marched. Only one song we performed this year was a stand-still, which was the final game of the year.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not disrespect FSU. But a song like Mars BEGS to be marched.

  • Not disrespectING... argh, sorry.

  • i am a high schooler that marches in our band and i have to say you guys are great

you all stayd together that i heard of and it showed no signs of tears

i also like how you took an orchestral song and used in marching season

and being a marching percussion person i have to give major props to the drumline

  • Someone show me another band that had to do 8 new half time shows in one season! 4 of which were in a row.

  • Trust me everyone. The Marching Chiefs of Florida State is without a doubt the best marching band! Their halftime show is ALWAYS amazing. And the music they play in the stands, and the intro to the stadiums is ALWAYS loud, and really well played. They're incredible, and the music is ALWAYS clear and GREAT!!!

    RESPECT!!

  • We played this later in the season and marched to it. Our last show was Mars and Rocky Point Holiday. Both were marched to. This is also a different version from the 93' Mars.

  • it sounds like they sped up a lil but still cheifs rock and i hope 2 be in it one day

  • boo

  • We were playing directly at the high schoolers in the stands so we wanted to face towards them. You're right, JP11283. It sounded soooo much better live. The low brass section is amazing.

  • i love this song and i love florida state

  • mdwill03 - so now Chiefs park and blow? Screw that. I was in Chiefs when we did this chart in '93 and we marched all but the last 20 seconds.

bad video for someone that's never seen Chiefs up close and personal.

    EABbGD!

  • @KrushR2006 I was in the Roamin Bones when we played this in 93 also:) Dunnigan has a knack for doing past shows from I've seen.

  • A handheld camcorder or camera phone hardly do the Chiefs justice.

  • I take offense to every one of these comments. Obviously you need someone who is actually IN chiefs to explain. We DO have drill to our shows. All 8 of them this season. In this video, we had just finished MARCHING our opener, then played to the visitors side. Then this specific song was done in the endzone played directly to the thousands of high school band kids that were there for our band day. We then ran back to our previous positions and marched the closer to this show.

  • fsu is one of the best bands ever they dont SUCK and they usually dont move whent hey perform i know we have drill and stuff but they just dont and like.

with turmama 123 ummmm that was rude. this isnt bad this is good.

yall are deaf. if you think the amrching cheifs suck.

obviously you dont know w a fucking great band when you see one.

  • this sucks wheres the drill :)

  • Poor Gustav Holst would be spinning in his grave if he suffered the misfortune of hearing this woeful rendition of his masterpiece.
