I prefer Pollini's nuances and softness, and the soul feelings and pace variations of Lang Lang's rendition. Moreover I prefer it played a little bit quicker.
Somebody please explain how this could have taken place in 1903: Arrau was BORN in that year... he can't have been that much of an enfant prodige And Muti, in 1941... Gheorghij
@Gheorgyi Riccardo Muti, born: feb, 1903, aint complicated my good friend....just lov talent who can bring classical music to life...a pleasure for us all.....:-)
@jockmacrocks Sorry - would you read again what you wrote, and check if it makes sense to you? B'cause it doesn't make any to me... And what's that about Muti being born in 1903? You are giving him 38 more years, "my good friend". About the talent and pleasure, I couldn't agree more. Gheorghij
As this Klavier Concerto great as Claudio Arrau the best pianist ever for grand concerto of Beethoven he simply the one who show to us the spirit of Beethoven in way you can feel it
...instead of criticizing one of the greatest beethoven interpreters who ever lived again and again, you should direct your attention to riccardo muti.he conducts always on the beat and his motions are somewhat weird and overdone.
but oviously u re not skilled enough to realize that.....
its quite clear that u didnt see the quotation marks of "non-expert",typical...you are not only stupid but also pretty impertinent..and think of(VERY BAD COMMENTS)setting above all u wrote in youtube, that does really match indeed!
Sorry...I don't own a copy of the score, and I thought that was strange; I have heard other performers do the same, but not with the volume of Arrau's.
Does anyone have an idea about the date of this performance? Judging from the age of Arrau, and Muti also, I'd guess about 1974-75. Any thoughts or input?
Tienes verdaderas joyas en tu canal, es fabuloso! A Claudio Arrau lo escuché en vivo en un concierto en el Festival Internacional Cervantino en Guanajuato. Gracias por compartir esta bella grabación.

Genius of the interpretation, Claudio Arrau was light years ahead from the rest of musicians.
(Why the lady's hair in 0:40 reminds me the movie "Mars Attack"?)

Claudio Arrau was, quite simply, the finest musician I ever had the privilege of hearing.

The conductor and orchestra they only consider good Claudio Arrau is better .

What I like about Beethoven is he just blows the doors off the hinges then returns to his normal sweet self.

A technically excellent performance. Bravo. You Tube is what David Sarnoff envisioned for TV, but could not pull off.

I prefer Gould-Bernstein from early 60's.
aardvaark069 2 years ago
Me not, Gould is good playing other composers.. Bach for example, but his Beethoven is pretty weak..
Ray0X0 2 years ago
That's cool. his 4 is ultra romantic and probably scmaltzy but I love it anyway

I wish this was faster, slightly more on the beat! I prefer Alfred Brendel/Simon Rattle with the Vienna Phil. Claudio was fantastic though...!

Exuberant and whimsical! Such a joyous piece that never fails to lighten up the spirit.

I feel like the piano is very well played, but just a tad slow in my opinion. (At least the Cadenza)

...not at all!

but not at all lacking in energy and drive, i would say even more than some of the rushed versions
chinaboy1991 3 years ago
I don't think so; the cadenza does not have any tempo problems.
