A socialist America? I guess Americans are brainwashed enough and they really think that they are happy in their capitalism. But once people can open their eyes and get awaken, this ultra-strong capitalism country can easily turn into a socialist union, which will work for to make world better, not for turning world into a hell as they are doing it now.
You think that citizens buying and selling things causes this much destruction? People didn't go to the store and say 'I think I'll buy missiles, corporate bailouts, Monsanto, subprime mortgages and GM'. The government did! Without an all powerful federal government, there would be no monopolies, and prices would fall. We need to empower local governments to address local problems.

Interesting concept. But impossible in practice. It might work with research scientists working together towards a goal, but it will never work in real life. In real life, even small tribes have basic property right protections in place. Without property rights, there is no incentive to care for resources. This can be seen very easily in East Berlin, or in Russia just after the dissolution of the USSR. Also, see Hungary. No government protection of property rights = resource degradation.

If the government could not be paid off, there would be no monopolies, everyone's negative rights would truly be equal, and there would be no positive rights. America is not a true capitalist system - look to thriving places like Hong Kong to see something closer to capitalism.

If you consume food in a day, there is something to be bribed with. Check out the book 'I was an NKVD spy'. In the former USSR, people could be bribed with food.
There is no way you can keep people from being greedy. Even in WWII, which some people point to, it was a temporary lack of greed overcome by fear, and it didn't last. There is no way to eliminate human greed - as such, pursuit of one's self interest in a constructive way - capitalism - is the only useful system of governance.

Could I bribe you with apples if you have your own orchard? Greed is not some irrational and mysterious behavior that can't go away. The levy did not break cause of corrupt contractors. It was built a very long time ago. During a time when we still had natural mangroves in the gulf that helped calm the swelling waters. Over time the fishing industry had removed much of the natural barrier that the mangroves created. With that you add a category 5-6 hurricane and you have a huge problem. But don't worry socialist lovers I have some problems with capitalism as well. Capitalism is based on the individual being able to attain as much wealth as he wants or can. Under this system it does not pay to be moral. For example, why would I be willing to tell my customers that the store down the street sells a higher quality cheaper item than the one I'm selling? Answer: I wouldn't. But on the flip side under capitalism I am free to choose to go to the store down the street if I choose.
The basic idea of socialism is that everyone should be handed everything (nevermind the fact that they ARE paying for it through taxation). Anyways, it doesn't make sense because if everyone is doing nothing then who is producing the things being handed to them? Also, if I am one of the people producing in a socialist society why would I work when I can get all the same benefits when I don't work?

It's not socialist to pay people to work for the military, because the government has to compete with the market, and so on. Socialists would force people to work in the military for low pay.
Example: just about every Western European country. After WW2 and the adaption of Keynesian economics, we saw a great rise in standards of living. When Thatcher implemented libertarian policies in the '80s we saw a reversal of this - mass unemployment, for example. The government has to compete with the market? Socialism is the opposite of freedom.
Have you noticed how messed up our economy is and how things are crashing now? You think that's the free market. You think the great depression was caused by the free market? Was FDR your hero? Governments created and escalated most of our problems we've had throughout history and people think the solution is more government. wow. Really sad.
Kafka: haha. So you give government the credit for our successes and powerful economy? You really don't know history. The government isn't employers or employees. Car manufacturers or bankers or oil companies, businesses, corporations, marketers, economists. And also, we had a very free market back in 1776. And basically all the way till the late 1800s.
And you'll might notice in that time period our government was very very small. Not perfect, but it was small. And our economy was very free. And almost immediately we became the world power. Then, comes the late 1800s. Things fall a little, but not too much, then they get worse once wilson passes the Fed. 13 years after the creation of the BIG GOVERNMENT department we have the greatest depression in the history of the world.
(cont2) and so you'll notice throughout history, contrary to your mistaken beliefs, when government steps in we fall, when they stay out, we thrive. And we have huge government now! And look at us! We're not doing so hot. Just thought I'd let you konw whats going on in the real world. :)

A huge amount of potential is lost through the unfairness of a system where agressive, already rich business step in so that they can lead in their market. The reason for government failure is usually a lack of morals and the fact that they live in a bubble where only votes matter.
I'm getting the idea you don't know how the economy works. First of all, the whole point of starting a business or working hard is to make money, either to get by, live comfortably or be rich. The top 5% or so pay 90% of the taxes! So we should punished those that have succeeded? So lets hurt the rich to help the poor and then the poor get rich, and we hurt them and we help the poor, then they get rich, we hurt them and then help the poor, and it's cycle. lol It makes no sense and doesn't work.
The reason it doesn't work? BECAUSE IT'S GOVERNMENT! Government was meant to have a simple tiny job. They were meant to have only a tiny bit of power. They handle criminals/justice and the military and that's about it. The people aren't idiots, we don't need government to handle things for us, lead us around like blind sheep or do things for us. We're not idiots.
We're made up for 300,000,000 people and you think a couple thousand people that make up the government are smarter then all of us? lol. Wow. That's sad. The government isn't an oil company, economist, marketer, employee, employer, businessman, car company,scientist, farmer, etc. So why do we trust them to handle everything? There's commercials playing right now saying stuff like "GIVE US CLEAN ENERGY IN TEN YEARS" "SAVE US FROM HIGH FUEL PRICES"
A socialist America? I guess Americans are brainwashed enough and they really think that they are happy in their capitalism. But once people can open their eyes and get awaken, this ultra-strong capitalism country can easily turn into a socialist union, which will work for to make world better, not for turning world into a hell as they are doing it now.

Interesting concept. But impossible in practice. It might work with research scientists working together towards a goal, but it will never work in real life. In real life, even small tribes have basic property right protections in place. Without property rights, there is no incentive to care for resources. This can be seen very easily in East Berlin, or in Russia just after the dissolution of the USSR. Also, see Hungary. No government protection of property rights = resource degradation.

If the government could not be paid off, there would be no monopolies, everyone's negative rights would truly be equal, and there would be no positive rights. America is not a true capitalist system - look to thriving places like Hong Kong to see something closer to capitalism.
I agree that neither system is perfect - but I challenge you to live in a non-capitalist country for awhile, and then tell me how you feel.

If you consume food in a day, there is something to be bribed with. Check out the book 'I was an NKVD spy'. In the former USSR, people could be bribed with food.
There is no way you can keep people from being greedy. Even in WWII, which some people point to, it was a temporary lack of greed overcome by fear, and it didn't last. There is no way to eliminate human greed - as such, pursuit of one's self interest in a constructive way - capitalism - is the only useful system of governance.

@ovensleeper That's simply not true anymore. The only thing propelling many minorities' places in the lowest class is inner city schools. There is a very simple solution to this called a 'school voucher system', but liberals don't want to implement it, because it would lift people out of poverty, thus destroying their reliance on the government, and eliminating their voter base, jobs, and huge amounts of money. It gives the main method of production(humans) the incentive to share. Whereas in socialism, people have your money and your labor without your consent.

By the time my parents were born stalin was dead for 17 years. Kruschev and Brezhenev had destalinized the SSR. Forced Labor lessened but that was about it, fear tactics continued. People should not fear their government, their government should fear the people.

Capitalism kills indirectly. The demands the corporate class places on the US government, means the Gov has to divert relevant tax money from important services such as healthcare. People died and continue to die because medicare and such could not provided expensive and vital therapies and operations. The levy did not break cause of corrupt contractors. It was built a very long time ago. During a time when we still had natural mangroves in the gulf that helped calm the swelling waters. Over time the fishing industry had removed much of the natural barrier that the mangroves created. With that you add a category 5-6 hurricane and you have a huge problem. There are many facets to each and every situation. You don't have the whole story.

And, in real Socialism, I'd simply walk away. I do not want workers and farmers collectively controlling the government and giving them the right to decide what I can or cannot do. I don't care about the lower classes...I don't care about classes. They can sit and rot in the fields and mines and factories before they get the chance to take control of the government. It is quite frightening to know a bunch of workers are going to running the world when they couldn't excel beyond that level.

You do not have the right to tell people to immigrate. Im sure there are many reasons why no one wants to move. They have the right to stay just as you do. It's hard to believe that Europe has less freedoms than we. So I ask you; is it freedom from or freedom too?: Freedom to do what you want or freedom from disease, poverty, hunger and indignity? the salary gap from men to women is pretty much closed so stop bitching if your being treated like an inferior maybe it is because you are. If you can afford a surgery sometimes life sucks but you can move to Europe at any point in time if you like or maybe go to colledge and get a job. If you can't go to colledge then go for a sport you might get lucky. But don't worry socialist lovers I have some problems with capitalism as well. Capitalism is based on the individual being able to attain as much wealth as he wants or can. Under this system it does not pay to be moral. For example, why would I be willing to tell my customers that the store down the street sells a higher quality cheaper item than the one I'm selling? Answer: I wouldn't. But on the flip side under capitalism I am free to choose to go to the store down the street if I choose.

The basic idea of socialism is that everyone should be handed everything (nevermind the fact that they ARE paying for it through taxation). Anyways, it doesn't make sense because if everyone is doing nothing then who is producing the things being handed to them? Also, if I am one of the people producing in a socialist society why would I work when I can get all the same benefits when I don't work?

You want free school its called public education and community college. Those schools are bad thank to government control and no competition. Also there are tons of government grant programs for school, student loans and work for the money! Most states schools are bellow 6000$ a year. Also you could learn a trade instead of college.

It's not socialist to pay people to work for the military, because the government has to compete with the market, and so on. Socialists would force people to work in the military for low pay.

Example: just about every Western European country. After WW2 and the adaption of Keynesian economics, we saw a great rise in standards of living. When Thatcher implemented libertarian policies in the '80s we saw a reversal of this - mass unemployment, for example. The government has to compete with the market? I thought that the government was supposed to stay of of that? And no, socialists would not force people to work at all; certainly not for low pay.

Tzarist regime had very big economical problems - people were very angry - Tzar told them "that's because of Judes" - and some narrow minded people believed him. Do you think that every poor person with a brilliant idea, who works incredibly hard and is determined as hell reachs the top? No.
A huge amount of potential is lost through the unfairness of a system where agressive, already rich business step in so that they can lead in their market. The reason for government failure is usually a lack of morals and the fact that they live in a bubble where only votes matter.

I'm getting the idea you don't know how the economy works. First of all, the whole point of starting a business or working hard is to make money, either to get by, live comfortably or be rich. The top 5% or so pay 90% of the taxes! So we should punished those that have succeeded? So lets hurt the rich to help the poor and then the poor get rich, and we hurt them and we help the poor, then they get rich, we hurt them and then help the poor, and it's cycle. lol It makes no sense and doesn't work.
