  • ha ha ha gia sou

  • lol yasoooo =D

  • Excuse my ignorance, but what does plate-breaking mean in Greek culture?

    Is "yasou" like "opa"?

  • hard to explain..oh well here it goes..

it's like when ppl are having SO much fun that they don't care of destroying everything in the room cause everything else seem meaningless when it comes party time.

But you can see it also in more melacholic situation (i mean when a man for e.g. after breaking up with his girlfriend, is dancing to get it out of his chest).

  • You can olso use it to say 'stop'

    Just 'opa', and NOT 'opa-opa'

  • You've explained it perfectly!

  • YASOU means hello in greek -more specifically 'to your health' we also use something similar when we make a toast.

OPA is more like a ..sound that gives courage to the dancers or the rest of the ppl so they can continue to party on, or whatever they are doing at the time.We also use it instead of 'halt' in greek slang.

  • well said ;)

  • @Endevide yasou is the equivalent of the hebrew l'chaim, its "stin ygeia sou" which means to your health as you said but it comes at sounding like yasou which means hello.

  • @kingsammythecat "Yassou", for "hello", also means "to your health"! :-)

  • @TrustMeIAmADoctor thats a common mistake, its from "stin ygia (pronounced iya) sou which sounds like yasou!

  • @kingsammythecat Ummm... I do not make common mistakes when it comes to greek language. "Υassou" (2nd person singular) the "hello" wish, and "yassou", or "yamas" (1st person plural), the drinking wish, are derived from the exact same phrase: "Health to you/us" (Υγεία σε σένα/εμάς)

  • EXCELENT!

  • Why "poor"? He got the girl in the end! :-)

  • yes, from sponda...as always :D

  • Greek culture is quite strong in Israel, a lot of Israelis like Greek music and some Greek foods. Most Israelis = friendly people, people have wrong ideas about them.

  • lol...

  • I just can't stand that accent of anyone who' strying to say yasssssssssssssssouuuoo. It's Greek, guys, not Chinese! Two syllables, simple as that, ya - sou! Don't strain yourselves! Enjoy Greece!

  • oh come on ...who cares about that? the point is that they like it.

  • Zorbas (Syrtaki) is Greek in the history an old man from Thessaloniki went on a sailing trip and came to Crete there he learned the dance!

  • it is a cretan chaniotikos melody from kissamos

    (Sirtos tou koutsoureli)

  • Bravo Israel :)

  • it 's actually a cretan dance(syrtos,syrtaki)

  • this is funny

    Goo israel!

  • yeah - no politics apply here, take it easy and enjoy the little things in life; give politics its place not in a tv ad for cheese!

  • he is SO hot! and that greek dance, it's better than cotton candy

  • cool ad!!!

  • hahaha!!! this a wicked, so funny... and it is just a tv ad it has nothing to do with politics, so relax guys.... take a deep breath...

  • Long live Israel,Greece,Lebanon,Cyprus and Turkey !..

    I love feta cheese..

  • AND I LOVE PALESTINE TOO...

  • Good for You, but Israeli culture is more similar to Greek.

  • Haha, fantastic.

  • I suppose we should be grateful to the Israelis. While the Lebanese are slaughtered, all we have to put up with are regurgitated ethnic stereotypes in a tedious Israeli TV ad. Oh, and the anti-Hellenic festival of Hanukkah.

  • Excuse me?

Don't you dare. I am in full opposition to the Isrealis campaign against Lebanon and its innocent victims.

  • Is Nasrallah innocent? Who started first?

  • Galdichka,

We have Chanuka because the ancient Greeks put an idol in our temple.

There were stereotypes used in this. But, were any of them negative?
