WARNING! It's wonderful to see parrots flying. They were meant to be born free and living in the wild. However, this is extremely dangerous for your pet bird. It puts him at risk of being killed or seriously injured. An unsuspecting dog could easily try to attack the bird and he/she could fly out of the area unintentionally and lose his/her navigation. This happens all of the time. The bird could also be seriously injured if attacked, or a frightened human could inflict injury. DON'T DO THIS!
So good to see some fabulous Macaws in the land of OZ. It is a little rare. which I find sad as they can make such great pets with understanding, wonderful people. I am in Melbourne and there are even less ........ too cold I guess :-) Thank you for your great video I really did enjoy watching free flight and a great bond between the two of you :-)
I can see a lot of American people taking away tons of animals...I live in Brazil and I see what really happens. The thing is...North American people like buying our animals. That's the reason why you have a lot of parrots there. They should live in a tropical country not in a so cold country like yours. ...they need warm weather. You must talk to your American friends about it. STOP BUYing Brazilian, African, etc animals...take care of yours...and leave ours where they need to be...
Hey in my bucket list I've always wanted to own this type of Macaw. I'm often at New Farm park, I'd love to see him if you still go to New Farm Park? Just wondering if it was ok to watch and ask a few questions about Macaws? Regards Michael Byriel
Man thats is beautiful....I am so scared to try and do this with my Greenwing macaw she is about 7 years old now and a little more calm than the previous years and she does mind better now. But I am stilol scared to try this in fear she will fly off and not know her way back or fear of a hawk or something attacking her. I live in a rural area. How did you train your macaw to do this? My macaw has flew around the neighbors house a few times and flew back home but I was so scared she gone.
My partner's Ringneck Parakeet flew away a week ago. He spotted high in a tree and tried to lure it down using carrots and his cage. He never came back. What happens to these birds when they fly away? By the way, the location is North Alabama.
If you are ever in Sydney and are in need of a moving perch/target, I am available. Preferred payment is a snuggle (with the bird - although you look hot, I'm a straight girl). How did the ring-neck behave while seing your Macaw flying? Is he/she free flying?
YOU ALSO HAVE A ALEXANDRINE! I got 1 as well! I really want to train my birds to fly and come back ( I also have a galah ) they are both wonderful birds and great job in teaching them. I can get my alexandrine to go outside and walk to the park but she does not want to fly lol, but my galah gets scared easy so I don't take her outside.
I just recently got a blue and gold macaw (he is 4 months old) and I was wondering if you could give ant tips to housetrain/ teach him to freefly (I like on 2 acres)
You said you live in brisbane and i was wondering did you buy zac in brisbane or another place? And how much would i be looking around to buy a blue and
@sshakallis Hi, there is always a risk in allowing a bird to fly free. You can take precautions to lessen the risk of loosing your bird. Having an intimate bond with your bird is paramount, being educated about freeflight is equally important. Generally a Macaw is better suited for freeflight because of its size. The smaller the bird the greater the risks. To minimize risk, you need maximum space, maximum bond, patience, and education.
Checkout 'Wings at Liberty" website. Ask questions!
@sshakallis Macaws are actually more cuddlier than African Greys, but don't have the same talking ability. The macaws are also bigger and therefore need more care when handling them. Their beaks are also much more powerful. If you are not ready for a free flight bird, I would suggest you buy a bird which is able to use a harness or flight suit.
Nice!!! I have a green cheeked conure that I let roam free.. he fly's for 10-15 minutes and comes back... most loyal pets evar!!! He escaped three times over the last four years but always was back, waiting for me to finish work and let him back in his cage... love the macaw.. awesome!! how old is it? what breed is your greeny?
Lol, I like the reaction of the public. There so amazed to see this what seems 'wild' bird, then it flies back and there mouths open even more x3 Good job, I could never do that with my birds.
wow, how do you get him to come back? When i do eventually get one i really want to let it live freely around my house but im worried that it would fly away. Is there any tips you could give me?
If you are in Australia, there are breeders in most capital cities. The Parrot Soceity of Australia can give you breeder contacts or I can put you in contact with someone in Brisbane.
I have 2 Hyacinth Macaws I am currently free flight training, but I am just petrified to take them outside of the warehouse we have been practicing in.
oh my god thats sooo cool! how did you flight train him? im wanting to get a macaw and i would love to have him flight trained and take him where ever and have confindence for him/her not to fly away or get lost but still awsome vid!!!
@hayderade Training is quite simple and easy to learn. You need patience, tolerance and time. Having a good relationship with your bird is of prime importance.
