I had the pleasure of working on stage with Larry one time, about 1978 at The Union Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas. We worked without a script for a fund raiser show. He was incredibly funny just ad libbing.
I always loved his English accent parodies. His records were very funny too. I loved his Prince Phillip immitation on the "I'm Walkin'" spoof on Roulette from 1957.
actually you missed the point. he is an impressionist and was actually doing a movie line. if the movie is set during the time of the Belgian Congo it would be called the Belgian Congo regardless the age of the person speaking.
I don't think you understand this joke which is from the movie THE ARISTOCRATS which is about the history of this joke and how all stand-up comics tell it to each other ever though its really old. Its a classic about a VAUDEVILLE performer explaining his VAUDEVILLE act to a vaudeville agent. Its suppose to be set during the time of VAUDEVILLE, no matter who tells the joke. So SANTDENIS11 go sit in the corner and put on a dunce cap (another VAUDEVILLE reference).
Your welcome, Been a big fan since I was able to crawl to the tv and turn it on, black & white of course. Also enjoyed the voice over work as Drac on Groovy Ghoolies..."one of these nights Wolfie, one of these nights".
The Bob Saget one was the surprise of the movie. No one could believe he was actually funny. No one knew he was funny. Just that Full House crap. Pope was right. The scat is a hoot for a while, but some of the old-school stuff was more clever.
This is the bit in the Aristocrats that made me laugh the most. The super-scatological gets old and boring and repetitive after a while; I guess I more appreciated the ones like this that were more creative.
When I was watching the extras on The Aristocrats and saw him I thought, "Oh great, some old school crap you have to be in the spirit for." Then he nailed that Catholic joke and I fell off my seat. It helped I was stoned as hell. But I am sorry, that was a hoot. That was classic stuff.
Yeah, I think I enjoy Larry Storch more these days than in his classic TV days. He is funny as all hell and doesn't seem to care what people might think. Great attitude.
always thought that Larry Storch was grossly underappreciated...hey, he used to hang with His Royal Hipness, Lord Buckley(for details/anecdotes from Storch, read Dig Infinity!, Lord Buckley's bio)...
Great fun! I always loved how he could do accents so well.

Alongside Gilbert Gottfried, this has to be the funniest telling of the aristocrats joke.

Guys like Larry Storch and Jonathon Winters were doing improv long before Robin William's drug induced rantings became popular

Larry is GREAT!! Did he just do this at home for fun or is it from some DVD?
Another great Larry Storch moment: You couldn't recognize him, but he played a wacky Hindu in Blake Edwards' "S.O.B." around 1980.
