Shelovessherry, I agree! That's why I love Chanticleer so much. We can't all sing as beautifully as they do, but if we cooperate as thoughtfully and do things with as giving a spirit as they do, then there's hope for all of us to do beautiful things.
I find it really insulting that the name of the piece is not properly written. INmortal... not IMmortal. Sorry, but that is unacceptable for a such a self important ensemble.
And here I was, thinking that I would always hate a Chanticleer + accompaniment song. But this song gives me chills in ways that cannot be imagined. God, I love Chanticleer.
I completely agree. I got to sing next to him at a chanticleer festival in akron back in october. it was honestly one of the most fantastic things of my entire life.
The musical interpretation is... just great, but the spanish pronunciation is not good... I'm spanish and I don't understand nothing. However, 5 stars. Is a pleasure to hear you.
This video was shot at the Mission San Juan Bautista, after the live performance there. San Juan Bautista is one of the few California Missions that have side aisles, and has survived this long despite sitting directly above the San Andreas Fault.
I saw the full half hour show this comes from on KQED tonight and just loved it. I'm so glad you posted this excerpt so I can share it with friends who missed it. I'm off to Virgin at lunch tomorrow to buy it.
BTW, this video title should be "Para Dar Luz Immortal" The font in the video is easy to misread.
Each verse has its own timbre and texture created by using different voice parts, monophony, polyphony, and accompaniment. There's nothing repetitive about it.
Thank you for your latest fabulous recording. The unique beauty of the Mexican Baroque Music has been a staple of your performances and recordings. The latest release shows there is still so much to be discovered and shared with the world about this little known and important musical repetoire.
I've been a great fan of your music and the latest shows why.
Una obra simple, interpretada de manera inteligente, dinámica y musical. Excelente!!!

Oh my god. The whole thing is just shimmering with love and texture. So sad and so perfect. Also, Eric Alatorre is a total boss.

@amatorynumber I simple 'you got yourself a typo there' would have sufficed. Now you've hurt our feelings.

Does anyone know quantitatively how low Eric hits on his solo?
merv1618 1 year ago
I think he gets down to a low B... At any rate, it's awesome!
syrinx79 1 year ago
@merv1618 bottom bass G, not much (any bass can hit that), but a very rich tone. :-)
amatorynumber 1 year ago
@amatorynumber I do in fact hear a low B at 3:18

Eric's moustache is nothing to make fun of for it shall envelope you if you are not careful.

I think the bass on the right needs more moustache wax.

excellent precision as always. I am wondering about the lack of ornamentation in the performance for a genre like this with so much repetition...
michaelmusicus 3 years ago
That lack of ornamentation is part of its beauty. The repetition enforces the melody and the message of the song.
