  • Everytime I watch this clip-which is a very serious scene-I can't help but to lol when Mary Beth grabs Chris hands and toss her backwards and Chris stumbles. Love the acting in this clip.

  • What a horrible disease. I am an alcoholic myself. I have totally been here. It is a horrible illness. I have had a relapse recently. What a realistic account of a horrible illness. Peace.

  • What a horrible disease. I am an alcoholic myself. I have totally been here. It is a horrible illness. I have had a relapse recently. I need prayer that I find sobriety.

  • I love Cagney & Lacey even after all of these years. This episode was very powerful when I first seen it back in the 80's and even more powerful everytime I watch it now. Such amazing actresses!!

  • Yup. She wakes up and realizes, gotta go to work. Better get some water in, some tea, some protein, suck it up. Another hangover. "I happen to be in pain Mary Beth"

"go ahead and be in pain, but everytime your in pain your drunk" Hard realities must be faced.

  • Just like her father.

  • a powerful piece of work.

  • a phenomenal piece of work.

  • this is the good stuff...great acting, real relationships. i hate reality tv. i like watching csi and all that but this show didn't need all the techy stuff or hardcore crap. it had a great cast to make it highly entertaining then and now. love rizzoli and isles too.

  • Love Mary Beth's accent in this show.

  • This is by far the greatest acting performance I have seen by both actresses. Twenty-five years later and I'm still blown away by this episode.

surfergirl, I found these episodes by a fluke. Thank-you for posting them. I need to purchase the whole series now. I'm 58 years old and I can relate to Chris Cagney's character so bad. I only wish I had a friend like Mary Beth in my life.

  • Surfergirl, I just spent the whole day watching the episodes that you posted. These were simply fabulous. This episode in particlar hits home hard and the acting by Sharon is ....simply excellent. Both actresses complimented each other so. What a great show with two superb actresses. I have recently started watching the new series on TNT called Rozzoli and Isles. I think they somewhat mirrored themselves after this groundbreaker.

  • from 5:15 to 5:54 is some of the most powerful television ever made. I would put the last 45 seconds of this clip up against all the garbage on t.v. now! American idol, has nothing on this! AMAZING! SAVING A HUMAN LIFE VS. CROWING THE NEXT AMERICAN IDOL! I CAST MY VOTE FOR SAVING A HUMAN LIFE!

  • hey people! you can see almost every episode on tv.com!

  • OMG! One forgets how brilliant these two women were. And Ms. Gless gives the best drunk scene in memory. She is staggering. Won an Emmy, didn't she?

  • I've watched this scene so many times and the very end when Chris admits that she is an alcoholic always brings tears to my eyes. You can really feel her pain - it's so real it is downright frightening.

What an amazing show with two phenomenal actresses.

  • Sharon Gless more then deserved the Emmy she got for this episode, imo this is probably her best piece of work. No matter how many times I watch it I'm always affected by it, the emotions are so rough and the writing is amazing.

  • thanks for uploading this. I loved this show back in the day, never missed an episode. And after all these years I still Love it, I hope they release the rest of the seasons on DVD, or make it available for download for everyone, not just USA and UK. There are fans all over the world that would pay to have their hands on this show DVD.

  • This is good television. We need more of this. I was a kid when this show was on, and it was out of my purview, so I didn't watch it until the last season, when I was like 10 and could understand some.

I might cop the DVD though. This type real interpersonal stuff, and exploration of the human condition is what I prefer over scientific babble about exaggerated forensic techniques, and graphical demonstrations poisons moving through someones veins. There's no substance there, no heart.

  • It's weird because I know her more as Debbie, the PFLAG parent from QUEER AS FOLK and I expected a few F-bombs to come out of her mouth during that scene.

  • This episode blows me away. Sharon Gless giving a masterclass in acting!

  • She is phenomenal!!! Mind blowing!

  • HELLO, were does she give the masterclass in acting. I like very much this actress!!! she's so fantastic!

    thank you

    frederique

  • catherinef87 I heard a lot about this show. Can't find full episodes on YT. But this scene always makes me cry. Both Tye and Sharon played the hell out of this scene.

  • This is a very powerful, emotive clip. Drinking can kill in so many ways.

  • This used to be my favorite show - and this clip brought back memories! Awesome show and awesome acting! thanks for the vid!

  • I agree brilliant acting by both ladies. That's why they both are Emmy winners! Look forward to 'hopefully' more of the series on DVD. Thx for posting!

  • what a scene - tyne daly has a bunch of emmys and this is why

  • This is true to life I saw the story. Sharon Gless took her acting very seriously and this was actually something that was happening to her. Hope you have the permission to post this it is an amazing scene. No judgement.

  • nowdays they would throw in about 35 jump cuts, dramatic lighting, give lacey a tummy tuck/girdle, make the apartment 'hip, fresh, and young', and ruin the whole goddamn thing

  • I know a high-paid lawyer whose a chronic terminal alcoholic. He gave up his drivers license, has a livery cab drive him home from work, and has a label stitched into the inside of his jacket that says "I'm drunk, don't let me drive."

  • That's so sad and terrible. Makes me feel sorry for him and anyone struggling like him.

  • I loved this scene all those years ago, and still do, when she finally admitted she was an alcoholic, very powerful scene

  • 5 Stars for this scene....it was powerful..and brilliant.

  • Amazing Acting!!!!

  • An amazing and moving scene. Both Sharon and Tyne are great.

  • AMAZING acting - I was too young for this show in the 80s but I love it - there's nothing like it on TV today. Thanks so much for posting it.

  • Yeah. Today's TV execs could, and should, look at clips like this and see what QUALITY TV should look and sound like!

"Bachelor/Bachelorette"? "Jon + Kate"? "Temptation Island"? WHAT?!?!

Except for the "CSI" franchise and "Criminal Minds," the rest of it is all ROT!

  • Thanks for posting!! I Loved that show !!

  • Thank u for C/L clips, they were my favorties back in the 80's.i never missed a episode.

  • Just want to say that i runned in to C/L clips, these two were my favorties cops problem on CBS back than in the 80's.never missed a episode.they were the best/they sure don't make great cops series like that no more.Espeially Females series.(-:thanks.

  • They don't make shows like that anymore. Thanks for sharing.

  • Mary Beth - "...'Course, I'm not flushing my job down the toilet." & "Whatever it is you add scotch".... Tyne's brilliant deadpan delivery makes for such brilliant dark humor!

  • Classic! <3 Cagney and Lacey!

  • Great episode! And deservedly, one of the few individual releases on video .. yeah that long ago.. video! Thanks for posting. :-)

  • even drunken sharon gless is a hot sexy angel with her sexy deep voice - but stop that black moralist bith besided her !
