Quite honestly, the force recon marines are the real match for the Rangers. Regular marines don't stand any chance. And I have 3 actual marines that agree. Um, the Ranger Regiment posts its requirements on its webpage (MOS, AIRBORNE, active duty, etc.). So, yes it does list the schools (Airborne) it requires. The other schools (not listed on the page) are the schools that rangers MAY attend (but are not required). How do you not understand this?

@jwlaureano That may be true. But in all technicality the USMC will not be the first into a combat scenario, no matter what anybody says because that is the reason we have special operations units. That is why the marines adopted MARSOC because they weren't the first to fight, instead they were on the naval ships watching as special operations units from the Army and Navy were taking on operations in Iraq. So "the first to fight" is only to be used with a grain of salt.
@jwlaureano Furthermore, I am not bashing the USMC. I have friends in the marines but I give credit where credit is due. The marines traditionally could fight without an act of congress solely because they were not and ARMY. They are a small branch of the navy. So in terms the president could send the marines because the marines did not signify an act of WAR. You need to approval of Congress to go to WAR. So jwlaureano, do not confuse presidential powers as a right bestowed upon the marine corp

When you say first to fight you need to emphasize WHY marines are places first. They don't get launched from the US directly to the fight. @khyea91 umm yes they are army advisors land first after special ops and recon has not been deactivated Force Reconnaissance units have been recently integrated into the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), and are now part of Marine Special Operation Battalions East and West. However, United States Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC) won't be fully integrated into SOCOM until 2010.

I'll disagree with you. Even if you compare Army vs Marine infantry, what is the difference? Marines walk a few extra miles in basic and a few extra weeks? WOW? Army deploys for a year while Marines only deploy for 6 months. I'd take 6 month deployments and a few extra weeks in basic over one year deployments any day.

@khyea91 In 1992, We sent three Marines to Ranger school and two finished top in their class. The other broke his leg then recycled and finished second in his class. Pogue Marines would probably have a tough time with it but Marine Infantry /Recon types can definately hang.
What's funny is we had four recon marines in our class and they all failed. Out of 25 slots a year, do you honestly think anything BUT recon/MARSOC gets ranger school slots?
yeah you can go to ranger school and not be a ranger it just ranger qualifies you. to be a ranger you gotta go through RASP and ranger school and theres been plenty of marines whove done that. not many ppl pass tho
You must be assigned to the U.S. Army to attend RASP. Marines do NOT attend RASP and very few attend Ranger school. There aren't "plenty" like you claim. If you go through the last two years of ranger school graduation photos (available online from the ranger school website) there are only about 15 marines that have graduated ranger school. There are 25 marine slots for ranger school per year so whats that tell you?.

Though they're not common, Marines, Air Force and Navy DO attend Ranger school as part of a reward program or a requirement for specialized training for better fielding in a JASOC environment. That being said, most of the applicants from all branches (to include Marines) fail Ranger school.
to be a ranger you have to go through basic boot camp airborne school witch entitles you to be able to jump out of a plane 1,250 feet high then they have 60 day boot camp 1/3 i don't dislike the marines but regular marine that went through one basic training camp not to mention the first day ranger students one whole day to fist to fist combat so obviously the ranger would win but maybe the guy made a mistake maybe the marine is a marine recon witch then is a different story

ROFL, just found an article in the MARINE CORPS TIMES that says the corps "once" had 80 slots for Ranger School per year (which would take about 30 years to get all Recon Marines tabs with a 100% pass rate ), but lost them (now they have 25 a year). The article ALSO says that only 40 to 50% of marines pass Ranger school each year prior to having only 25 slots... Guess that solves it.

Quite honestly, the force recon marines are the real match for the Rangers. Regular marines don't stand any chance. And I have 3 actual marines that agree. @jwlaureano That may be true. But in all technicality the USMC will not be the first into a combat scenario, no matter what anybody says because that is the reason we have special operations units. That is why the marines adopted MARSOC because they weren't the first to fight, instead they were on the naval ships watching as special operations units from the Army and Navy were taking on operations in Iraq. So "the first to fight" is only to be used with a grain of salt.

The marines traditionally could fight without an act of congress solely because they were not and ARMY. They are a small branch of the navy. So in terms the president could send the marines because the marines did not signify an act of WAR. You need to approval of Congress to go to WAR. When you say first to fight you need to emphasize WHY marines are places first. They don't get launched from the US directly to the fight. Most combat ready marines are on naval ships riding around as a police force.

@khyea91 umm yes they are army advisors land first after special ops and recon has not been deactivated Force Reconnaissance units have been recently integrated into the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), and are now part of Marine Special Operation Battalions East and West. However, United States Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC) won't be fully integrated into SOCOM until 2010.

I'll disagree with you. Even if you compare Army vs Marine infantry, what is the difference? Marines walk a few extra miles in basic and a few extra weeks? WOW? Army deploys for a year while Marines only deploy for 6 months. I'd take 6 month deployments and a few extra weeks in basic over one year deployments any day.

You must be assigned to the U.S. Army to attend RASP. Marines do NOT attend RASP and very few attend Ranger school. There aren't "plenty" like you claim. If you go through the last two years of ranger school graduation photos (available online from the ranger school website) there are only about 15 marines that have graduated ranger school. There are 25 marine slots for ranger school per year so whats that tell you?.

Though they're not common, Marines, Air Force and Navy DO attend Ranger school as part of a reward program or a requirement for specialized training for better fielding in a JASOC environment. That being said, most of the applicants from all branches (to include Marines) fail Ranger school.

ROFL, just found an article in the MARINE CORPS TIMES that says the corps "once" had 80 slots for Ranger School per year (which would take about 30 years to get all Recon Marines tabs with a 100% pass rate ), but lost them (now they have 25 a year). The article ALSO says that only 40 to 50% of marines pass Ranger school each year prior to having only 25 slots... Guess that solves it.

This shit ain't worth it. I respect the Corps, even as I realistically shouldn't (disabled Airborne/Afghan vet son of a retired E9 sailor/grandson of an LDO O5 Sailor >.>). There are some good men (and women. My aunt was a Jarhead) in the Corps.
