Located almost the top of the grade Missionary Ridge, just south of Chattanooga before the TVRM (Museum), Chattanooga-Atlanta run. Backed down for a photo runby 'up' the grade. Shhhhhh...... listen.
Cut 55 seconds of pure mountain sound of three engines echoing in the mountains? Na, that's the point of 55 seconds first. Listen, enjoy the sound of steam....
@rwk360 Maybe they can bring some steam up to Michigan. NS never did that in the first steam program. We need to see some new steam up here. Seeing the 4501 or #630 would be a big deal up here.
That would be the ultimate railfan excursion. The pinnacle of every foamer's dream. Too bad the two Roanoke locomotives might never run again but at least NS is bringing back the steam program!
Shhhhhhh, turn up the volume. Listen to three crying whistles echo in the Ga TN mountains, hear the exhaust hammering up grade, see 4501 on the lead with no light on. It's like 1950 with SRR and N&W working together. Enjoy
The paint scheme for the baggage is typical Central of Georgia Blue and Gray. It was created in the late 1940's. Enjoy and listen to the run up the hill
Think it was GA (BN) 206 (554) Baggage previous owned by Southeastern RR Museum currently owned Blueridge Scenic Railroad. It paint went colors from BN > GA > NS (N&W).
That should be SOU (CG) 662 coach. Still owned by SERM, leased out to TVRM. The paint went CG (Blue & White) > SOU (Green & Gold) > N&W (Modded Look) > NS (N&W).
Sometimes, NS would put a passenger set together, they would put like passenger cars next to each other. Thus you have 2 SERM cars riding next to each other.
THAT WAS AWESOME! I can't imagine what it must have been like to see that in person. If only we could see something like that today. Still, AWESOME! Long live, steam locomotives!
Yes, I used to work on the Southern and NS Georgia Division. I had the privilege to be assigned on many excursions as third generation. I took this video after I left but was on the trip. I also worked some Chatt-Atl excursions sponsored by TVRM. I grew up on steam from my father and grandfather going back to 1905 on Southern. I'm looking forward to seeing 4501 running again.
Amazing!!

Maybe NS can double head 630 and 4501 sometime? When 610 is repaired, triple head 'em?
rwk360 7 months ago
@rwk360 that would be possible but later on most likely... what i read was there tearing 610 down so maybe 10-15 years down the road?

The new steam program will have far fewer trips, however, but they plan to take it around different states on NS.

@rwk360 You still can't count out 611. she has the best chances now. 1218 will never happen again.

Why are there two NS business cars on the end of the train?
