  • John Green does NaNoWriMo? Oh, the irony

  • I got discouraged a thousand words in and didn't finish.

  • Have you gone to DisneyWorld yet Kristina?

  • This was my first year doing NaNoWriMo, and I had to do it for a class. By the middle of the month I wanted to chuck my laptop out of the window seriously tired of it. By the very end, I was happy with what I wrote... For the most part. Finding out you had been doing NaNoWriMo too actually got me to write more and better. I made the decision to do this every year. First year, and I ended with 50,494 words. It helped with my role-play life too.

  • I look for inspiration in September and October to write

  • I had 3 days and needed 40,000.. i finished! add mee (SpaghettiFork)

  • GOSHDARNITI'MGOINGTOFINISHMYSTUPIDSPIRALINGOUTOFCONTROLRIDICULOUSLYLONGNOVELBEFORENOVEMBERENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WILLPOWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • fdask ;___; DAMN IT. I feel so guilty for not doing it now. This was gonna be my first year ;_; I heard about it last year aswell. ;_______;

  • dude i flinch every time she says "nanoWREEmo" instead of "nanoWRIIImo"

  • @Silversumire I use both ways.

  • @Cranequill ehhh well its obviously supposed to be pronounced nanoWRIImo because its short for national novel writing month and i heard it that way first so my ears are more accustomed to it

  • Are they Twilight books in the background?? :O

  • I can't watch you tube unless I reach my goal. today, I met that goal

  • I just came back to this video because I needed to hear that you can catch-up even if you are 20k behind x)

  • @Nayra92 God ;o. Thats exactly why I came back to it xD. Awesomeness!

  • Your video made me realize I really, REALLY needed to write....arrrrghhh...

  • I'm doing it this year. But I'm only 12, so I'm doing the Young Writers One where you set your own goal. I'm going to do 'proper' NaNoWriMo next year I reckon. :)

  • Besides rewarding myself with candy, i made a deal with my dad that he'd help me save up for a Macbook Pro if i win this year.... considering my computer is LITERALLY falling apart... game on -.-

  • I'm two days ahead, and I'm having real issues not taking the next couple of says off- argh!!!!!

  • I pretend i'm in the story, and eat lots of sugar. apart from when people die in the story, that doesn't feel to good and then I have to eat more sugar...

  • I just hit 10,000 so I rewarded myself with a 30 minute YouTube raid. Then back to writing.

  • @EmilyIsGallifreyan I'm so nearly at 10,000 *O* arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

  • I think i know why its in november. November starts the day after halloween. On halloween, you get candy. Candy can be used for energy, and rewards. Its a beautiful thing <333

  • Every 1,000 words is rewarded a YT video.

Every 100 words is rewarded a "check your inbox and channel and reply to all things"

Every day i set a goal. I must stay up until i finish that goal. If i get really stressed, your nanowrimo song goes on.

Thats what i do. It works too. I've been procastnating all week, and allowed myself to do that. But this weekend, i am following my rules and i'm almost catched up. <33

Oh and i use candy, and mocho-latte-lite-frapachinos 4 energy. <333333

  • I reward myself with candy every thousand words. Love candy.

  • Oh, and writeordie(dot)com

  • I allow myself a tiny piece of chocolate every thousand words. Till today, I banked about five, maybe sixhundred words for school days to come. I warned all my friends and family, and we don't have Thanksgiving in Germany, so I think I'll be fine.

  • 13,114 words and it's only the second day :D I'm proud of myself. Though the majority of my transistional filler scenes are absolute shit. Just gotta plow through the writer's block like an angry bird plows through wood.

  • I just write. Even if it is really bad I will write. I will not even let other people read it. Now just 49,467 to go.

  • What I do is spend Science writing. If I don't, I DIE in that class. So, it's either write or die. I think it's obvious what I chose. I have to force my self to stop. My science teacher actually had to kick me out after fifth today.

  • My friend and I, (My friend's name is Liz too! Or at least thats her nickname!) We're gonna go to Castles N Coasters together if we finish. :D

  • lol sidebar.

I just capped my first day of nanowrimo at a perfect 3000 words. I want to write it out this month, then revise it in december NaNoReMo National Novel Revision Month! (Sounds similar when spoken XD)

  • Last year, one of the admins made it to over 100k by the end of the month.

    dlskfjldsjhfkdfhksjdfa

  • 2095. My friend has over 6000 already. sigh...

  • kdwjklhldkjhnc 3076 words

  • First year! I already have 2,934 words! Anyone want to add me as a buddy? I'm FantasticKilljoy

  • Usually I don't have to force myself to write. I always need to force myself to stop. LOL.

  • i actually enjoy writing, thats my motivation

  • GO TO DSINEYLAND BEFORE NOVEMBER 2011! (you have three days)

  • IF YOU COME TO CALIFORNIA I WILL GET YOU INTO DISNEYLAND!!! I have friends who work there :3

  • Usually when I'm trying to get my words for the day done, I just tell myself, "You are NOT going to sleep until you finish!"

Yeah, that's the best threat I can give myself... But it works!

  • @LitChick4Eva i tell myself if i dont finish i wont finish and feel like crap

  • I'm planning on attempting NaNoWriMo this year and am excited and extremely nervous!!! I'm all organized and I have a lot of great material floating around in my head. my biggest problem has always been to express my ideas in words. man, i wish i had my own computer. pray for me.

  • @XDBrunetteGal cheating in NaNoWriMo would be like cheating in a game of monopoly... Against yourself.

  • bribes, if i win this year, i will save up and get an ipod touch =)

  • how do they know if it wasn't something you had written previously? or is it just a matter of trust? ;D im thinking of doing nanowrimo!

  • I love you and forever am

    In awe of your amazingness

  • When I write I just make little goals like Just 25 more minutes of straight writing and then I can take a dance break :)

  • And this is why you're a Hufflepuff, Kristina =)

  • First year...plan made...only a few weeks left...

  • This is my first year doing NanoWrimo! I can't wait, but I'm nervous because I'm stuck on the outline AHHHHH!

  • What I don't like about the idea of NaNoWriMo is that it's so rushed. I get that some people really need the motivation, but an idea for something that could be a good, full-length book gets turned into a short, rushed, poorly-planned-out story

  • @thatweirdnerdygirl There's an ebook called 'Nano for the new and the insane'. Read it, and you'll understand wahat's so fun about NaNo :)

  • @thatweirdnerdygirl Planning it out should be done before November, i'm not doing it that way though :P

  • @JedsPlays And when you're done, feel free to revise in December XD

    GOOD LUCK :D

  • @thatweirdnerdygirl Many thanks, to you as well! (If your partaking in the hell that i'm sure will be nanowrimo)

  • @JedsPlays I can't :( because I signed up for tons of honors classes and am in the school play so I already get 6-7 hours of sleep and have no social life.

BUT I might try to write the same amount in, say, july. Even if it's not the proper month. Because I have no time in November.

I wish the best of luck to all who actually are doing it this month though!!

  • lol nanowrimo staritng soon):time to stock up on lollypops

  • This was funny, it's going to be my FIRST EVER NANOWRIMO this year (dun dun dun) and you have encouraged me to go through with it. My friend and I wrote mini-stories last year and were quite vicious. Our teachers were worried because during open study halls we'd sit across from each other and yell insults whenever the other stopped writing. We still get weird looks, but whatever (la, la, la) YAY NANOWRIMO 2011!

  • I'm still waiting for a year when doing NaNoWriMo would not seriously damage my education . . . I'm beginning to think that day will never come. I want to write a science fiction novel!

  • Crapness, I really need to come up with a topic.

  • I write terribly, and I have no cool friends to bribe/do it with me.

  • @TheMoonWolf23 I WILL WRITE WITH YOU:D I am also terrible. Befriend me on nano notquitefallen :)

  • @TheMoonWolf23 Me either.

  • @ImagineSilentWriter I'll probably do it next year, just in case we all die in December. xP But now I have tumblr to push me along, so I will. Next year. For sure..

  • Great video and point...but WRImo not WREEEEEmo

And candy, halloween candy always works as a bribe for daily word count

  • Great video and point...but WRImo not WREEEEEmo

  • The ending of the video... ;~; Yeah. I know. I'm doing Camp NaNo right now...I should really be writing. *sulks*

  • haha... this was uploaded on my birthday

  • A couple of weeks ago on the last day of the first session ever of camp nanowrimo, and my first time ever nanowrimoing, i woke up at six in the morning and sat down at my computer until 11:51 pm and wrote my remaining 20,000 words. how? i have no fricken clue. i averaged at about 1,000 words every 40 minutes an just forced myself to not stop. i think at one point i broke into tears. but it was worth it.

  • I listen to music and sometimes imagine myself in the shoes of the person I'm writing about. It works really well for me :)

  • I'm doing Nanaowrimo (I thinks thats the name spelling... thing) its going to be a blast... I wright for fun

  • I see a twilight book on your bookshelf! :O

  • write about something u like.......And Yeah i'm writting a book right know cuz im like i wanna wrtie a book this minute IDK yeah i got about 1,000 words

  • if i finish this, not only wil i finish my VERY first actual novel, but it'll also make a hell of a birthday present

  • What is NaNoWriMo?

  • @holliztr831 i`ve checked thir site ( you just type nanowrimo in the browzer ) but i want somebody who has already participated to explain so THUMBS UP IF YOU WANT KHRISTINA TO EXPLAIN

  • @holliztr831 there's this thing called google...use it

  • "now stop wasting time on youtube and get back to writing!" haha i am procrastinating writing right now!

  • You didn't need 2 minutes, 39 seconds to answer the title. Just 4 words:

    Kristina has no life.

  • here are some tips

    1. include lengthy quotes from shakespeare or a similar famous author - this should get you at least 10 thousand words easily.

    2. repeat a few of your earlier chapters word for word - then explain it as a stylistic device which shows the futility of the individuals aspiration for validation in a post literate consumer society.

    3. lengthy stream of consciousness passages where you list the objects in front of you, days of the week, hp characters, and whatever comes to mind.

  • This past year, I was at about 37,000 words and got stuck. So I just started writing nonsense that turned into a character's nightmare which ended up with him meeting his dead mother who revealed information that moved the plot way forward and structured the rest of the plot. More of a one-time thing than an actual tip, but it really helped.

  • Hey guys!

I'm looking for a model for my book cover thats coming out in 2012 (:

    Email me for more information!

    bookbook100@yahoo.com

  • I have never done NaNoWriMo yet, so I have some questions :)

    1) How do you win?

    2) Can more than one person win? cause it seems as if everyone expects to win!

  • @wellellotherefatty You just need to finish your novel.

  • This past NaNoWriMo, I wrote all day during school (I don't even remember learning anything during the month of November) and then went home and spent about an hour before bed typing what I wrote, and adding stuff. I promised myself a bad of M&M's at the end of the month...I still haven't gotten those M&M's.

Also, the "Write so many words if..." thread was a Godsend for me.

  • Does anyone think the chair looks like a shark?

  • i'm gonna try in 2011

  • @lunaissoawesome its 2011, get started.

  • i force myself to write by on a day when im going strong writing more than i need and getting as much done as possible so i have allowances for bad days and on the bad days i go to the gym and take a break and note down any ideas i get

  • Wait... Nanowremo? Cuz that's how it sounds to me. I always said it "nanowrimo"

    I just finished!!! So happy!!!!

  • I was very much behind this year-- well, very much to be me, and so I ended up writing my last 20k in three days. I did it in sprints, writing out an idea during 20 minutes (using a timer) without distractions, and that'd give me a rough 1000 words each time. Then I took a break for at least another 20-30 minutes, doing something fun or eating something. I found that this worked very well for me.

  • brilliant. I find the best way to force yourself to write is get into a compeition with someone. I was so sure I wasn't going to do NaNoWriMo because of coursework and such important things, until Oct 25th , and then I was like 'Ah hell I'm doing it' and it was my friend Vicki who convinced me. The whole month we've been competing. whenever I thought it was getting 2 much, I didnt give up because I wouldn't give up because I had to win. And Vicki, if you see this! I'm winning! 85 words to go

  • You and your friend have inspired me that I can, in fact, succeed. This is my first time trying NaNoWriMo and while your video has become subject to my procrastination, I have less than 6 days left and need 30,000 words, it comforts me to know that your friend needed 32,000 and finished in 3 days. I just thought I would share this before I went back to torturing myself trying to spurt out 5400 tonight.

  • I tried to do a NaNoWriMo once... It failed. Like, complete, utter failure. I write about 2000 words a month... It's quite pathetic...

  • @americanpie7231 Criminal Minds is amazing I love Reid xD

I don't think I will ever do a NaNoWriMo, cause I know I will never be able to do around 2000 words a day.

  • Sprinting!!

  • I just go to the forum on the nanowrimo website titled "Write So Many Words If..." and I read one post, calculate how much stuff applies to me, write that much, then read the next post (and REPEAT!) It's great motivation. :)

  • i dont let myself watch criminal minds until ive met my daily goal. not watching criminal minds is the most extreme form of torture EVER

  • I started like a week and a half late, but I'm almost back on track !

I tell myself that if I write for two hours straight, I get a snack. Or half an hour of reading. Or 15 minutes of a social life.

    sigh...

  • u guys r amazing.......i have to force myself so hard just to do a stupid essay for school! im good at writing ideas 4 stories but i suck at actually making it come to life or whatever... ;_;

  • I do 2,000 words a day because for me, it feels a lot better to finish writing a more even number like that, and if you need to miss a day later on, there's no reason to freak out.

Well, I have never really had to bribe myself, then again this is my first year....so I'll update if I've had to make any bribes by then. XD

  • Damn, that is amazing that you finished.

  • (this is me procrastinating on my writing) let's see, tactics. I just keep going strong. I won't let myself leave the computer until I get it done. Even if it's like pulling teeth, the sense of accomplishment you feel (even if it's just the 1667 words) is incredible.

  • I physically have to force myself and remind myself how proud of myself I will be when I hit the 50. Add me on nano my username is Sammieseagull

  • I use word sprints and word wars to get myself to write. Doing it with other people makes me want to compete and be a part of the group, so I write furiously! I've also noticed that I write better in 200-300 word increments, so I take lots of tiny breaks, then do another 200 or so words. (Also, Write or Die is my savior.)

  • To force myself to write, I hide chocolate by my computer, so I have to pass the computer to get it, and I feel guilty whenever I pass it, so I have to write.

  • I'm just doing this this year and my best friend told me she'd draw a cover for my book if I do it! :D

  • ok im already behind and this is just distracting me more so i got pikachu in the face :( awww

  • @LifeIsWorthFighting Yeah, sure! My username is kirstynhippe. I'll add you as a writing buddy :)

  • This is my first year and my tatics are, Goldfish, My friend Dante forcing me to write (He loves my writing), caffenine and Music. Oh! And a great deal of procrastinating by watching your NaNoWriMo videos XD My mom is also going to buy me a sweatshirt if I make it to 50000 in time. 958 words so far...... I think I should get back to writing

  • Comment removed

  • Tactics? Chocolate. 'If you hit the next 1000 word mark, you get another piece of chocolate.' It totally works.

Good luck if you're doing it this year!

  • TOMORROW!

  • "NANORIMO Makes you do crazy things"--like try to write a novel in a month. That's one of the best kinds of crazy that I know.

  • I'M DOING IT I'M DOING IT. First year. I'm kind of scared.

I'd better say goodbye to my social life and my grades... Wait. No. My grades have to be ok or I don't think I'd be able to do it at all. OK. I'M SCARED.

I'm going to have to buy a lot of caffiene and charge my laptop. Here we go...

  • @xKirstynHippe Wow I totally feel the same way about all this. can u send me ur user link so we can be writing buddies? my name is MyToxicBlood there :)

  • Tobacco and Coffee.

  • I think I'm going to do it, I just have no idea what I'm going to write about, and have no time to do it. Perhaps I'll reward myself with Disneyland if I finish.

  • I love NaNoWriMo!!! I'm frantically outline today! Thanks so much for making the NaNoWriMo song! It's been cheering me up.

  • Last year I signed up but didn't go through with it these year i am going to do it for sure

  • @nukeakitten Incredibly, I did! It's one of my proudest accomplishments. THat novel was the product of Red Bull and lack of sleep, and it was beautiful and will never see the light of day because I burned it. It was so terrible. But I'm so glad I did it. And I can't wait for this year!!!

  • Near the end of NaNoWriMo 2009, I had a few days left and 40,000 words to write. I wrote 10,000 words each day and finished in four days. It was the best feeling in the world, and I still had a day or two to spare. The worst part, I think, was going to school on Monday and not being able to tell anybody. Because nobody knew that I had just written a 50,000 word novel in (less than) a month. Nevertheless, I love NaNoWriMo. :D

  • NaNoWriMo ♥♥

  • I'm actually about to sign up for it with my friend... it sounds really fun. I'm sure it'll be hard though! Especially since we've got school, so that rules out using the internet ever except for music and the NaNoWriMo site, since I'll get distracted and I'll need to be using the computer for writing... too bad I'm an internet addict. This'll probably kill me... XDDD

We both love writing though, so we should both be fine. =D

  • It's so hard to decribe NaNoWriMo. It's awesome but painful... It's terrible when your parents try to talk you out of it. "It takes up alot of time that you need to be focusing on school work blah blah blah!" But I do it anyway. It's like some sort of drug addition. It's... Idk. It's NaNoWriMo <3

  • NANOWRYMO!!!! Kristina... xD

NaNoWriMo cooks your brain , it's funny but hard hard hard.

I'll take my first nanowrimo this year! :D

  • Krinstina!! @,@

    it's nanoWRImo.. as in WRIting.

sorry, it just kept ringing in my head

  • NaNoWriMo Rocks! I've only done it for 2009 but I won!

I wrote 1,700 words a day, that way if I couldn't write a day for some reason, which happened a few times, I wouldn't fall behind. In the end, I wrote 50,060 words!

  • I never tried to write for NaNoWrimo (i just found out about it like 2 minutes ago --') but I write as well and publish stuff in a website, and it's really damn hard to focus on writing when there are some many other interesting things to do (like watching vlogs and videos and eating chocolate). And beside why can'te there be a NaNoWriMo for each country? Cuz I can't write 50,000 in english. DD:

  • @lilikaberry96 It doesn't matter the language, if you make an account you can choose the language. And all you do is copy paste the finished novel into the word counter.

  • @Bloodykitten10 Oh! Thank you then, think I'm gonna give it a try this year (IF MY PARENTS LET ME ò.ó) they say i'll waste too much time on "writing things which are useless for the future"

Have you already tried to do a NaNoWriMo? :D Tell me how it is

  • @lilikaberry96 I'm doing my first NaNo this year, so wish me luck! I've heard that it eats your soul, but you come out better for it.

  • @Bloodykitten10 I wish all the luck of the world :D I bet it's hard to write. You can only do it in november right?

Eats your soul and cooks your brain XD

  • @lilikaberry96 Thanks! I think you can do it whenever, but the 'Official Site' only opens the Word Counter in November, and it's easier to get the motivation to know that thousands of people all over the world are suffering along with you. :)

  • I've never done this before, but I have written a novel...ish...and a half...and forcing yourself to write is the HRDEST THING EVAR. I honestly just sit around on FanFiction or Youtube and think to myself, "You know, you could do something with your life if you go an write now." This is always folloed by a shrug and a, "meh."

  • But i didnt wanna write!

  • I know I"m a little late for this but I've been a NaNoWriMo.. er for the last 5 years. I find that if I don't sit infront of my computer I get better ideas. I take my notebook around with me everywhere. I write my novel in my classes, at my volunteer jobs and through work. So I make the "work" of writing novel into my escape from my regular work. Good luck next November

  • Just write 1,500 words a day (I think that's what it is... maybe more maybe less) If you do that, you'll finish by the end.

  • Okay so I know it is Feb. BUT,! I know a few tips listen to very upbeat music grab an apple or chocolate but ice cream doesnt help. OR you can have 3 candy bars for every 15,000 words :)

  • I was going to write this epic story about a dream I had about a girl who moves to like...this little town and meet the perfect guy. but he's all weird and stuff and she wants to know wazzup with him. turns out he's a vampire. I was going to name it Twilight or "It's dark but not really". but I didn't write it because someone stole it. sad.

  • @Idadsr you are awesome.

  • You actually inspired me to do Nanowrimo, thank you

  • Kristina, I love you, but seriously. It's pronounced "rye-mo". Every time you say "ree-mo" I want to shake you. D:

Because I'm a perfectionist / grammer nazi. Sorry.

  • @ultimatekai Potter fans pronounce it "ree-mo"...Because of Kristina.

  • i had to do it first thing in the morning or i'd find some kind of excuse to get out of it :)

typing in pj's is more fun anyway!

  • i bribe myself and my friends by each page we right we get 5 sun chips, BOOYAHH! lol. healthy chips :)

  • are you american or english?

can anyone elts answer for me?

  • @AdamOnYourPC she's American from Seattle, Washington...

  • Never take your eyes off the screen lol easy

  • oh, and my friend and i bribed ourselves with stickers and gummibears XD

  • lawl, u have a twilight book in the back... and i say nano(rye)mo you say re mo... weird...

this november was the best hell ever. i think i have carpotunnel now...

  • My friends threaten me...oh goodness, I have evil evil friends. But if I don't win this year, I will have a shower curtain with Robert Pattinson's face on it. I am not a big Twilight fan (although I do think that an RPattz shower curtain embodies Edward's general creepy stalkerishness beautifully), and so I am GOING to win. Even though I'm currently only at 42k and a bit, and there are 14 hours left. Crap, there are 14 hours left!

  • @Rowena1001 so did you win?

  • @nukeakitten Unfortunately no. But luckily I managed to convince them that my shower curtain is prettier with turquoise flowers... =) THIS YEAR I WILL WIN THOUGH.

  • @Rowena1001 Oops haha I just saw this comment and replied to it, thinking I never did and also thinking it was about last year. I feel really awkward now. I won in 2009 and not in 2010, for clarification. Same threat both years though.

  • REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEMO?!

  • I've people pronounce it as "ree-mo." It's "rye-mo" because "wri" is short for "writing" but... oh well. ^^

  • Haha dude, you're awesome. Harry Potter fan and NaNo? Wooo!

  • What is na-no-re-mo???

  • National Novel Writing Month! NaNoWriMo for short.

  • Thanks, I now know a little more knowlege. As fun as it sounds, but november is crunch time for college so I may take part of NaNoWriMo in like Decemberish.

  • You totally should. It's a lot of fun and when you're done it makes writing papers feel like a piece of cake.

  • I've had a plot in mind for a long time. I knew exactly where my story should be headed. That ending's what's been keeping me motivated. I have a place to focus on. Also, I made sure I did at least 2K words a day so I could have a buffer because I knew something would come up.

  • Me and my friend OnceUponML have 10 minute writing sprints. I also told her if she gets to her 75k goal I'll make her two batches of cookies, any cookies she wants. My baking is famous. She's already written like 13k, and she's been sick and in college. I think my bribery wins.

  • Biggest tools for success for me are write-ins (knowing other people are as crazy as you can keep you from quitting) & tying up your internal editor, no fixing!

I keep a rule. No going back to reread what I wrote. If I can't remember what came before too bad. I only allow 2 paragraph read back to get started writing again.

Finally don't stop. Every day write even if it is only 25 words & don't feel bad if you don't win. Even if 25 words is all you got that is more fiction then most write!

  • Write or Die FTW

  • See, I'm only 14 so I do what my parents tell me to do.... so I only end up writing not a lot. But I have beaten my 2000 word count when i was 13 by, 1500, so I feel pretty good. Hopefully, when I'm I'm older and I have more free time and can actually dp things with having my mom yelling at me to do laundry and the dishes every five minutes I will make the 50000 word count, until then, 3500 words feels pretty good.

  • Yeah, i'm 14 as well and I've been working on my story for about a week, im only at 22 thousand but i try for the experience.

I know how you feel though; i always get interuptted with schoolwork

Yay for young writers! *high five* XD

  • tell all your friends that you're doing it, and then you are forced to continue writing or otherwise look like a fool. :)

  • damn my computer, it won't let me watch the last minute of this video :(

  • i wouldnt mind doing this thing next year actually, i think i'd really struggle comming up with a story though :(

  • Hahaha, the last 10 secs is the best!

  • No! Evil! But I still love you so it's okay.

  • I love NaNoWriM! I did it last year but failed epically; I had 6,000 words in total. Now I'm doing pretty well. As far as bribes, I refused to eat breakfast yesterday morning (no school) until I wrote 800 words and I waited to eat lunch until I wrote the other 700 I wanted to w
