What a way to spend Sunday Morning listen to an array of music------Joyous!!!!!!! Reviewing all the favorites I used to listen to from the '50s on up to today. Rippingtons' are a soothing, happy, ray of sunshine!
Jazz is timeless and gets better with age. Have Beniot, Rippingtons, Spyra, Klugh, Kashiwa, Crusaders, Koz, Fourplay, Lober, Boney and other GRP artists on my iPod.
Why can't the Rippingtons make music like this anymore? They should do a tour with all of the original band members. Steve Reid and Carl Anderson made this group outstanding back in the early 90's.
patkill123 There is no one better. They always delight me and they just keep getting better. I am usually broke, but I will spend the money on their CD's anytime. They make my dreary life worth living. They are simply the best.
I was at this concert and Carl Anderson was a surprise guest. Because of his performance, I went out and bought every Carl Anderson CD. He is amazing!
I really love this music. This live version is fantastic, and the vocals. We can see the happyness and joy. Jeff so happy and electric. We can feel the pleasure and satisfaction from the guys of the band, playing with heart. This song makes me remember my daughter, and everytime i'm listening, i cry. Not sadness, but happy.
The first time I heard "The Rips" I was there biggest fan and have been since 1985 and have met all of them on many occasions. Kim is great to hang out with. They have been my favorite group thru all these years and will always be, I mean how can you improve on perfection???
I remember meeting my first wife at a rippingtons concert, we both heard them for the first time on the Weather Channel and loved them ever since. Well my first wife passed on from a tragic auto accident, but when I listen to the smooth sounds of the Rippingtons it reminds me of the good times that I used to have with her.
Also how can Kenny G possibly say bad things about these guys? They are better than he ever was.Jealousy I think.
u must read this. once u have started there is no turning back. a little 10 year old girl was raped and murderded in 1945. her body was not found until 1947. then a boy last week read this and did not copy and paste this message. the dead girl appeared in his room haunting him and killed him. if you do not copy and paste this onto 10 vidoes in 30 minutes the dead girl will apear in your room tonight and haunt you and kill you. well you better start to copy and paste this
Saw the Ripps this afternoon...my first time seeing them and it went way too quickly. The weather didn't cooperate (outdoor show) but the jazz was smooooth. They were sounding better than ever. Nice mix of old and new.
The title says it ALL , Carl Anderson is just genius in capturing the essence of the song adding that spice to a fabulous recipe of elation of the spirit, he and russ freeman add a nice touch toward the end of the song.
As that tourist I would want to stay on vacation for ever
Ahh, funky jazz of the 80's and 90's. Rippingtons, Special FX, Fatburger, Sanborn, Jarreau and the whole WNUA line up. Was anything more fresh and alive. Saw all the shows. What a great time for music. Here is a great live example of that special time. Play that funky arrangement Russ and with DB on piano. It don't get better than this.
I don't think the problem is so much with the band themselves, it's we the listeners who fail to capture that same feeling when we hear their new music. I think the sound is pretty uniform with their older stuff. IT's the same when I listen to new stuff from any other artists. Jeff Kashiwa doesn't resonate that Rippington sound for me as a solo artist and likewise Spyro Gyra has also kind of lost their magic with every new release.
Gotta love the 90's hair. I've seen the Rippingtons live 5 times. Russ Freeman is a great guy, always talks after show and signs stuff. Very "fun" music!
Have seen them a few times, luckily at smaller venues, where they made themselves available after the shows to sign autographs and just say hi. Great music & great guys too!! Thanks for all of the fantastic music over the years!!
They ripped the stage up in Memphis at the New Daisy....we saw them off to Boston safely. Strictly Jazz Entertainment, LLC would like to thank the Rippingtons for gracing our city with the sounds of GREAT MUSIC.
It's the late great Carl Anderson, who was a staple at GRP for backgrounds and studio work. He did an excellent version of "O Holy Night" on one of the GRP Christmas CDs. He was so cool.
Seen this group in Mobile Al 2003. They were very good. One of my all time favorite concerts. Will try to get to Atlanta from Baton Rouge to see them again
im 20 now and remember my dad playing this in the car on a tape recorded from jazz fm radio i think at least 13 years ago and i still love this track today.
I first got into the Rippingtons in about 1991. I've seen them countless times in concert in the last decade. This song, ("Tourist In Paradise"), still remains one of my favorite of their songs. Of course, if I listed all my "favorite" Rippington songs, there would probably be about 100 of them all tied for first-place!
i have seen then a few times also but i would like to knwo at the end of the concert they[russ] played jimi hendrix to end the concert.the three times i went to see them they did.hendrix had a influence on him i suppose
Aww this song takes me back to a few years ago when I would listen to it on my way to the lake for my sailing class at college... Boring as hell town, so I would listen to the rippingtons and it just takes me back. Love this song- makes me want to go back to sailing and go on a cruise!
Know where you're coming from! Listened to this on the way home from a concert in Houston, TX ( I am from London, UK)/ We stopped by Clear Lake and listened to the song again while we 'completed' our 4th date....!!!!
The name calling is unproductive. I've seen the rippingtons live and talked to them. They're very good at what they do, but all I'm saying is what they do is very commercial. Before you get all up in hackles, know that I don't mean that pejoratively necessarily. I just mean that their music is made to sell well, perhaps at the expense of some artistic integrity. I'm NOt saying, however, that more obscure is by definition better, but I am saying that this music is commercial and suffers b/c of it

I will admit that The Ripp's music is not for everyone...and everyone is entitled to their "opinions" (no matter how crass)
I have seen these guys live twice. Afterwards, I got to meet each of them. They are very down to earth and friendly. I never had such a good time at any concert. I suggest each of you to see them live one time...then comment about their musical ability.
The previous comment is obviously from a moron. These guys are ACTUALLY playing these great parts to make this thing groove. You have no idea who I am. This is on par with all of that sampled garbage. It in fact does not groove and it give jazz a bad name. I happen to be a very well educated and respected musician. This plastic banana garbage makes me sick to my core. Just ask Pat Metheny. He shares my opinion.
What an elitist prick. Seriously man. You don't have to like it, and it may not meet your ever so humble standards of Jazz, but so what if others do. Music's supposed to make you feel good, not to be classified and used to ostracize others because of their preference.
But if the only music you can seem to enjoy is pure unadulterated jazz like Miles Davis or Pat Metheny I feel bad for you.
It's so easy to just not write ANYTHING. Music is a very personal thing. If a person is moved by Rippingtons' music, as I am, it's entirely personal. I'm also moved by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Joe Sample, etc. Because I'm moved by Rippingtons' compositions, I'm musically shallow? wow. I also play.
First song I ever heard the Rippingtons play and I've just about worn out my CD. This is an great video but the energy they bring to a live performance is incredible. They are all consumate musicians who never go just through the motions. They obviously love their music and love playing together. Can't wait to see Jeff play with the Ripps in Feb 08 on the Smooth Jazz Cruise.

I don't think I could hate this more if it had killed my family.
This music is so artificial I think it gave me cancer!
