  • Jazz is timeless and gets better with age. Have Beniot, Rippingtons, Spyra, Klugh, Kashiwa, Crusaders, Koz, Fourplay, Lober, Boney and other GRP artists on my iPod.

  • @tamal1976a totally ok ma.. a shout from mallorca island, the valley of soller :)

  • i wish they playing in my country :'((

  • late great carl anderson

  • Shame about the quality of the recording, it's tinny, poor quality and way too much treble, destroyed what could have been a good song to listen to

  • my boy Jeff Kashiwa on the Sax

  • still get goose bumps when i watch this video ..truly an amazing moment in the journey of Rippingtons!!

    RIP Carl Anderson...

  • Why can't the Rippingtons make music like this anymore? They should do a tour with all of the original band members. Steve Reid and Carl Anderson made this group outstanding back in the early 90's.

  • LOVE, LOVE LOVE this!!! Love Carl Anderson and David Benoit!!

  • ... Damn that's funky.

  • Russ Freeman..best

  • My boy David Benoit on Piano

  • patkill123 There is no one better. They always delight me and they just keep getting better. I am usually broke, but I will spend the money on their CD's anytime. They make my dreary life worth living. They are simply the best.

  • I was at this concert and Carl Anderson was a surprise guest. Because of his performance, I went out and bought every Carl Anderson CD. He is amazing!

  • saw this done in st louis. wow! these guys are awsome. enjoy

  • We always see in the percussion, latin people, but this guy is great

  • I really love this music. This live version is fantastic, and the vocals. We can see the happyness and joy. Jeff so happy and electric. We can feel the pleasure and satisfaction from the guys of the band, playing with heart. This song makes me remember my daughter, and everytime i'm listening, i cry. Not sadness, but happy.

    Hugs from Santos (Brazil)

  • My favorite version of "Tourist In Paradise"!!!!

  • Oooooweeeeeee!

The Rippingtons, Carl Anderson, Kim Stone throwing it down on bass!?

It don't get no better than this!

  • Steve Reid is a monster! Awesome with so much passion!

  • Steve Reid is a monster! Awesome with so much passion!

  • I like how they have the horn section... you just can't imitate that sound on a keyboard!

  • OMG @ 3:46!!!

  • great tune!

  • The first time I heard "The Rips" I was there biggest fan and have been since 1985 and have met all of them on many occasions. Kim is great to hang out with. They have been my favorite group thru all these years and will always be, I mean how can you improve on perfection???

  • @stupidrussia They define perfection, more talent in one band than ever

  • Rippingtons? More like Ripping tunes, amirite?

I remember meeting my first wife at a rippingtons concert, we both heard them for the first time on the Weather Channel and loved them ever since. Well my first wife passed on from a tragic auto accident, but when I listen to the smooth sounds of the Rippingtons it reminds me of the good times that I used to have with her.

Also how can Kenny G possibly say bad things about these guys? They are better than he ever was.Jealousy I think.

  • @xnightofragex Weird fact....Kenny G played with these guys on their first CD...Moonlighting

  • @xnightofragex Kenny is just mad that he can't play with the best group in the world anymore......

  • Doesn't Russ Freeman look like that white guy from Passenger 57? lol...

  • is this show available on DVD?

  • @Megadeth72

Unfortunately not. Song rights have been hard to get, among other things.

  • when was this concert?

  • @riglesia27

August 1992 during a tour in LA.

  • No Doubt. Every song these guys play is perfect. Don't need to add or subtract anything. My all time favorite group. No one tops it.

  • No Doubt. My all time favorite group. No one tops it.

  • Frickin killer song man, best song they ever did...I love this shit.

  • Saw the Ripps this afternoon...my first time seeing them and it went way too quickly. The weather didn't cooperate (outdoor show) but the jazz was smooooth. They were sounding better than ever. Nice mix of old and new.

  • hahaha i feel so much better about life now haha

  • Cant wait to see these guys on Aug. 15th im getting qoose bumps just listening to this song

  • @nhmb1624 I'm gonna be there too! It's gonna be hot.

  • RUSS FREEMAN IS THE MAN ON GUITAR!! AWESOME MUSIC. SO RELAXING AND POSITIVE I JUST LOVE THIS.

  • I LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOVE THIS !! SO AWESOME AND BEAUTIFUL MUSIC WITHOUT ANY LYRIUCS TO MESS IT UP. I CAN LISTEN TO THIS FOR YEARS AND NEVER GET TIRED.

  • Best jam session ever!!! and also very good perfomance, love that guys ))))

  • R.I.P., Carl. Great voice silenced forever.

  • The title says it ALL , Carl Anderson is just genius in capturing the essence of the song adding that spice to a fabulous recipe of elation of the spirit, he and russ freeman add a nice touch toward the end of the song.

As that tourist I would want to stay on vacation for ever

    Wil S. A. Tx.

  • Thank you for those fantastic songs!!!!! In fact the 80s and 90 where fabulous in terms of jazz!!

  • They just don't make bands like this anymore........the 80's and 90's..Rich times in music!!!

  • @raljazz Yes you are correct I wish there was more Fusion in jazz like then Instead of the Jazz Snoozing we have now!

  • @raljazz tHAT BASS PLAYER SO FUNKY IT IS KILLER.!!

  • @HEADBANGING69 Yeah..the guy is a great bass player!!

  • uhmm que buen ritmo!

  • Ahh, funky jazz of the 80's and 90's. Rippingtons, Special FX, Fatburger, Sanborn, Jarreau and the whole WNUA line up. Was anything more fresh and alive. Saw all the shows. What a great time for music. Here is a great live example of that special time. Play that funky arrangement Russ and with DB on piano. It don't get better than this.

  • I've always liked this group, and I would loove to hear some new stuff from them!

None of the watered down stuff of recent years, more of the original and innovative stuff that made them the tops in the 80s and 90s!

    R.I.P. Carl Anderson!

  • I don't think the problem is so much with the band themselves, it's we the listeners who fail to capture that same feeling when we hear their new music. I think the sound is pretty uniform with their older stuff. IT's the same when I listen to new stuff from any other artists. Jeff Kashiwa doesn't resonate that Rippington sound for me as a solo artist and likewise Spyro Gyra has also kind of lost their magic with every new release.

Time to listen to the old stuff.

  • Gotta love the 90's hair. I've seen the Rippingtons live 5 times. Russ Freeman is a great guy, always talks after show and signs stuff. Very "fun" music!

  • "Tourist in Paradise" is the early Rippingtons signature song. Great live version with great musicians!

  • I've always liked their studio albums, but they're really great live.

  • Have seen them a few times, luckily at smaller venues, where they made themselves available after the shows to sign autographs and just say hi. Great music & great guys too!! Thanks for all of the fantastic music over the years!!

  • Just phenomenal.

  • Met them all a few years ago, really nice guys all!

  • They ripped the stage up in Memphis at the New Daisy....we saw them off to Boston safely. Strictly Jazz Entertainment, LLC would like to thank the Rippingtons for gracing our city with the sounds of GREAT MUSIC.

  • Looking forward to seeing Russ and the boys at Sculler's Jazz club in Boston in November. Live long le Rrippingtons!

    thefog.(com)

  • They do....it's called "live in LA" and this clip is from that...

  • Yeah, I wish they had a live dvd of them performing. They are awesome

  • black dude makin the sound effects rules

he doesn't sing, he just makes sweet sweet sounds

  • It's the late great Carl Anderson, who was a staple at GRP for backgrounds and studio work. He did an excellent version of "O Holy Night" on one of the GRP Christmas CDs. He was so cool.

  • @echoftw Hehe, okey, and how do you define singing?

  • RIP Carl Anderson. I know you are rocking in Heaven now.

  • @echoftw

His name is Carl Anderson...who has passed...who also played "Judas" in the film "Jesus Christ Superstar"

  • Seen this group in Mobile Al 2003. They were very good. One of my all time favorite concerts. Will try to get to Atlanta from Baton Rouge to see them again

  • 2001. Had front row seats and met Russ!! Life is good!

  • Mmm y qué pasó con el videoclip de este tema?? alguién la puede subir'? Me gustaba verlos en la playa...viva The Rippingtons!!!

  • Mi cancion favorita y con el maestro Benoit al piano.Me trae hermosos recuerdos.

  • Russ Freeman is my hero. Tourist in the paradise is my favourite song!

  • Now they just need to re-release this concert on DVD!!! I love this CD! Kashiwa blows it all away!

  • I'm going to see these guys the first week in August in Monroe, Michigan and I guarantee they'll blow the roof off the place!! Can't wait!!

  • i freakin love thsi band!

  • Big leaguers in their music field! Great!

  • porn music :D

  • Good call.

It is high quality pron music.

There is no Rod Jeremy in THAT flick.

  • whos on the guitar ?

  • russ freeman =)

  • Thanks, I was tryin to find some of his videos, I couldn't, he is nasty man.

  • That would be Russ Freeman.

  • im 20 now and remember my dad playing this in the car on a tape recorded from jazz fm radio i think at least 13 years ago and i still love this track today.

  • Perfeito!!!

  • one of the best song

  • Whoa... that rush. So full of life.

    AP

  • I first got into the Rippingtons in about 1991. I've seen them countless times in concert in the last decade. This song, ("Tourist In Paradise"), still remains one of my favorite of their songs. Of course, if I listed all my "favorite" Rippington songs, there would probably be about 100 of them all tied for first-place!

  • i have seen then a few times also but i would like to knwo at the end of the concert they[russ] played jimi hendrix to end the concert.the three times i went to see them they did.hendrix had a influence on him i suppose

  • Only 6 more days...

  • My grandpa used to be the bus driver for them

  • Comment removed

  • Aww this song takes me back to a few years ago when I would listen to it on my way to the lake for my sailing class at college... Boring as hell town, so I would listen to the rippingtons and it just takes me back. Love this song- makes me want to go back to sailing and go on a cruise!

  • Know where you're coming from! Listened to this on the way home from a concert in Houston, TX ( I am from London, UK)/ We stopped by Clear Lake and listened to the song again while we 'completed' our 4th date....!!!!

  • check out my PERFECT MIDI FILES at my YOUTUBE VIDEOS

  • Awesome song!!!

  • Impresionante!!!

    FunkYeah!!!

  • great song big cat great song

  • The name calling is unproductive. I've seen the rippingtons live and talked to them. They're very good at what they do, but all I'm saying is what they do is very commercial. Before you get all up in hackles, know that I don't mean that pejoratively necessarily. I just mean that their music is made to sell well, perhaps at the expense of some artistic integrity. I'm NOt saying, however, that more obscure is by definition better, but I am saying that this music is commercial and suffers b/c of it

  • This is great! Some day, my practice will pay off and i will be able to play may alto sax like that.

P.S. could somebody please upload "Jewel Thieves" from the album "Black Diamond" that would be greatly appreciated.

  • I LOVE THIS CUT!! THANK YOU!!

  • I love this piece.

  • Unbelieveable performance, but ya' know, the song needs some lyrics.

  • ...Then maybe you should just stick to Brittany Spears

  • and maybe you should do something useful with your life.

I absolutely adore the Rippingtoins and I take nothing away from them by suggesting that vocals would add something.

  • I wish the studio version was like this. I love the intro on the piano in this one.

  • This video is awsome this is one my favorite songs by Russ & The Rippingtons and met Russ Freeman in person and Paul Taylor as their sax, clarinet,& EWI player. Carl Anderson R.I.P.

  • Hi there, I agree great band. I also have a Carl Anderson solo album, did'nt realise he had passed away, what happened to him?

  • WHERE U DOWLOAD THE VIDEO?

  • This is absolutely heavenly!

    Thank you.

    Peace

  • David Benoit: piano (special guest)

Carl Anderson: vox (special guest)Rest n Peace

    Russ Freeman: guitar

    Kim Stone: bass

    Jeff Kashiwa: sax

    Tony Morales: drums

    Steve Reid: percussion

    Unbelievable song & performance!!

  • Watching this video it is plain to see these very talented young men really enjoy their work with a passion and for that I thank God that such people exist to make wonderful music.Without passion there is only noise. Thanks for posting this. ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT !!!!!

  • we played a rippingtons tune in my schools Jazz Band. We joked around, calling it weather channel music... None of us knew that their music literally was weather channel music. Nonetheless... great music

  • I will admit that The Ripp's music is not for everyone...and everyone is entitled to their "opinions" (no matter how crass)

I have seen these guys live twice. Afterwards, I got to meet each of them. They are very down to earth and friendly. I never had such a good time at any concert. I suggest each of you to see them live one time...then comment about their musical ability.

  • (lol,at 0:50,itz when it strats rockin

  • Such great porn music from such accomplished mullets!! lol.

  • The previous comment is obviously from a moron. These guys are ACTUALLY playing these great parts to make this thing groove. Unlike todays so-called music consisting of samples, computer loops, file cloning and all the other bullshit tricks that allow people with no talent to be "STARS". Great post! Thanks.

  • You don't like this clip, but you KEEP watching it. Nobody cares why. You are in the sad minority. :)

  • I don't watch it, I get email when people respond to my comments.

  • What an elitist prick. Seriously man. You don't have to like it, and it may not meet your ever so humble standards of Jazz, but so what if others do. Music's supposed to make you feel good, not to be classified and used to ostracize others because of their preference.

But if the only music you can seem to enjoy is pure unadulterated jazz like Miles Davis or Pat Metheny I feel bad for you.

  • It's so easy to just not write ANYTHING. Music is a very personal thing. If a person is moved by Rippingtons' music, as I am, it's entirely personal. I'm also moved by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Joe Sample, etc. Because I'm moved by Rippingtons' compositions, I'm musically shallow? wow. I also play.

  • I can't understand that anybody can give such lousy comment on this video

  • That was the most idiotic response I have ever heard. I love it!!!

  • have you hears about synthetizers???

  • good melodie, the rippingtons the best

  • man that is the funniest shit I have ever seen. Good 80s power claps

  • russ freeman solo + Jeff kashiwa solo= best combination ever!

  • good music defines...

  • Tourist in Paradise is my FAVORITE song by the Rippingtons...love it!!!

  • Kashiwa is the man!!!

  • The 2 BEST Rippingtons songs BY FAR in my book are Snowbound and North Peak. I could listen to those ALL DAY.

  • I love you guys! You make me so happy! Even my cat is groovin' to your tunes!

  • i love this song!

  • The Rippingtons are Gods. Flat out.

  • Amen!

  • Btw if this doesn't show up properly, I'm responding to someone who says the Rippingtons are godly. And I agree!

  • First song I ever heard the Rippingtons play and I've just about worn out my CD. This is an great video but the energy they bring to a live performance is incredible. They are all consumate musicians who never go just through the motions. They obviously love their music and love playing together. Can't wait to see Jeff play with the Ripps in Feb 08 on the Smooth Jazz Cruise.

  • man your lucky! i was gonna go on it with my family, but it costs too much. have a good time though!

  • I am totally speechless... jeff kashiwa( the sax player) is my idol!

  • This was the first Rippington's song that I ever heard. After that, I been hooked. I've been listening to them ever since.

  • What a killer arrangement! Thanks for posting.....

  • beautiful music!

    i love it!
