I think most 'real' RC planes do use jet engines. I use the term 'real' because most of them require some level of skill to fly, as well as expense to build. There are alot of electric styrofoam(sp) RC planes being made now, which I think these are, that are made for beginners and are very inexpensive if they get crashed. They recharge off of the hand controller and do not have quite the control of regular RC planes. They seem quite fun though.
