Euro Disney was Disney's biggest mistake. In a financial sense of course. It is one of the most amazing Disney parks ever, one of the most beautiful and unique. But it was Eisner's fault for putting 7 hotels with one park, overspending on most attractions, and for pissing off the French. Out of those things, the hotels were the biggest problem. 7 hotels, 7, for 1 park! WDW opened with 2!
@TikiBoy382 Well, you know how it is, no idea ever truly dies at Disney! Someone below posted ways in which the ideas have manifested, at least in one form or another...
This clip had me excited when I was 10 years old, though alot of those rides are like the flying cars and personal jetpacks that they said people would have had by now...they never materialized!
Im just spreading awarness for another proposed Disney ride but supposably WDW was to get a DuckTales ride that was supposed to be like Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin
Ariel Ride - now to be completed at California Adventure due to public demand
Dick Tracy ride - never made due to poor box office ratings
Baby Herman ride - everyone had forgotten who this was by the time this ride was to be made (he wasn't one of the biggest stars, although he was in a few shorts with Roger Rabbit) The hollywood idea was patched on to California Adventure
Actually that Muppet show they mentioned was to a live action stage show. Don't even get me started on why Muppet Vision 3D wasn't at Disneyland in the '90s
I think what would be smart to do with Disneyland attractions would be to cut off a huge section of land and start building up the obvious attractions. Then, have several areas available for expansion as the years go by; an older section with classic Disney characters/shows/movies and newer ones that are added on as time goes by. It's always one or the other with these sorts of places, never both; foresight is needed with these kinds of people.
Hell yeah, there needs to be more love for Alien Encounter. Sickest ride ever, I loved it to death. Replacing it has to be Disney's biggest mistake since Euro-Disney.
We went with another family and their 4 year old loved it but there were other kids that needed to be shown the door. It's just loud. My 7 year old loved it too except she was too small to enjoy the interactive part of it.
And Walt Disney himself did not wanted Disneyland to stay the same forever, he wanted the park to change and grow with public tastes and as new technologies became available.
I also have to agree that Alien Encounter is far superior to Stitch, IMO. I personally don't know anyone that likes Stitch but obviously there are those that do. And hey! Go easy on Euro Disney. Disneyland Paris is an AWESOME park, it's the Studio park that sucks (but is improving). :-)
OH MAN. Alien Encounter at Disneyworld's Tomorrowland doesn't exist anymore. It's a dumb Lilo & Stitch ride and it's just... not scary... or entertaining.
Maybe it's "good" for the kids, but I miss that damn ride.
I only embrace change when it's productive. Alien Encounter was the only reason I wanted to go to Magic Kingdom. I forced my way through crowds and avoided stomping on children to come face to face with a little blue alien and what was once one of my fond childhood memories (yes... I was eight when I rode Alien Encounter) became sickeningly sweet to suit the fact that parents think their children are mentally and emotionally weak.
BttF III was released in 1990, same year as DL's 35th. So this was a pretty obvious attempt to capitalize on that and use DL's train as an image for transporting guests backward and forward in time.
Ironic thing about that is that Disney turned down making the first "Back to the Future" movie because they felt it was too dirty to have Marty's mother trying to make out with her own son in a car.
I remember this-I was sad that we never got 'The Little Mermaid' attaction, or Hollywoodland. I kept coming back to Disneyland hoping for these ideas.
Yeah, I do actually. It's a great piece to watch from time-to-time. I actually really like the homage they did to Walt as well - chokes me up every time.

Indiana Jones show - never made, already at WDW
Muppets show - Muppetvision 3d at
Ariel Ride - now to be completed at California Adventure due to public demand
Dick Tracy ride - never made due to poor box office ratings

And Alien Encounter did appear in 1994, not at Disneyland, but at WDW.
And I would probably count the Indiana Jones ride as maybe an "Indiana Jones adventure spectacular".

I disagree. Stitch's Great Escape is more kid friendly. Isn't that what's important?
brndncrsn 4 years ago
I have to agree. The very idea of Alien Encounter was a little too dark for a Disney park.
Although I have heard that Stitch's Great Escape still scares some kids.

I'll have you know that the Stitch attraction is NOT dumb! It's cool!
Besides, Alien Encounter was WAY too scary to be in the Magic Kingdom, so it had to go bye-bye!

Apparently not. They instead decided it was too dirty and therefore did not pick up the film. That's what Disney DID do.
