  • They're eventually going to bring this back right?

  • I feel old watching this. :(

This type of dynamic infestation + alien swarm = ???

  • Can't believe its already been 5 years since I first saw this.

  • This is from five years ago.

How much longer until we see it in game?

  • @Agora2021 My friend is in closed pre-order beta now!

  • Why isn't this in the current version of the game?

  • The current implemented infestation is only a prototype. And yes, this video is still amazing after all these years.

  • well if this isnt gonna be in NS2, its gonna be total crap. flat 2d infestation sucks, as it is atm,. we need this.

  • @RMJ1984 In a recent interview the developer stated that the current infestation is only a prototype and that they fully intend for the finished product to look as good as this. Here's hoping they stay true to their word.

  • cant believe they already put this in ns2

  • Can't believe its already been 5 years since this video...

  • wow they have been making ns2 for a long time. this video is from 2006...

  • So is this idea trashed since the creation of the spark engine?

  • @nazodan dynamic infestation is now in ns2

  • Are they going to include this to their game now when they have their own engine?

  • @supercoolguyT dynamic infestation is now in ns2

  • @DmdWasserTanzt

yes but it will be in the beta eventually

  • @akira357 Dynamic lights are working fine doesn't matter how big the light is its all in the setting of it the engine didn't lag for me and besides that its still Pre-Alpha as far as dynamic infestation it should be easier for them to put in the game being that they made the engine.

  • @akira357 Perhaps you should wait until the game is actually released before you jump to such a conclusion.

  • If it hangs from the ceiling it should have little dangly bits. that'd be cool

  • I don't understand where this would fit in games O_o ..at least in games like Half Life where the player moves faster than some mold grows.. Much more cooler is realistic snow what NoBoDy have EvEr made.. there's snow only in ground, snowing in air and slippery snow but not like thousand different types of snows and snow what melts to water and frozes again or something like that O_o It would be cool if Valve tries to do that but it's probably too hard and home computers aren't good enough yet

  • There isn't enough dynamic features like this in modern games..

    Keep up the good work!

  • hope u will include this it looks awesome:)

  • GREAT!!

  • It's not the Source Engine. The NS 2 team decided to make NS 2 a stand-alone game. It is now using an engine made by the NS 2 team.

  • wrong, this was done on the source engine. this was made a long time before they decided to make their own engine. he even says its done on HL2 maps.

  • @cjozsa

Common misconception. This was on a very early version of Max's engine (before it became Spark), which supported .bsp map files, like HL and HL2 uses.

  • Go to their website, they update it regularly. Also check out their latest videocast.

  • i really miss those endelss battles 2 hives kahara fighting top level marines on subspace array on 1.08... that fun was never archived with newer versions...

fun was killed when trying to get the game dumber so people with no respect to the game play start playing it... sad...

leet did not much for the game to grow but at least was FUN...

  • If you did some research, you would realise that the developers have been updating their website frequently. Go to it now and see all the new info.

  • Hope it aint sucky. NS1 was fine and fun to play.

  • It's a real shame they always seem to be making this game on technology which already looks outdated.

Get some funding to get an engine that won't make your game an immediate underdog.

I really see you guys shooting yourself in the foot with this dated tech.

Really you should be competing with DOW2 And Starcraft2 visuals.

  • They've made their own engine, called the evolution Engine (at the moment). They recently showed off their lighting system, and it looks great. Also note this video was made nearly 2 years ago

  • Why email everyone a 2 year old video? Unless it represents what the engine can do, in it's glory, today?

I guess it was hopefully thinking asking us to look past the typical hl2 graphics/map.

  • I think the emails main purpose was to inform people about the new videocast, which shows off Max's brilliant new lighting system.

I guess they added a link to this video to show uninformed people what they were talking about when they mentioned 'infestation'.

  • I wonder if Players can collide with it or clip through that Slime.

  • that looks amazing, cant wait!

  • why was this added 2 my email tis 2 year sold...

  • that was stupid the graphics look like crap it looks exsacly like ns1 i would so not buy this game anymore. total waste of waiting time and money.

  • This video was made nearly 2 years ago, go watch the more recent videocast. Needless to say, it looks great!

  • guess listening isnt your strong point, the voice over stated the actual map is a standard HL2 level. you know what, dont buy the game, less morons on the servers

  • Watch the other podcast video in their email. Has the dynamic lighting looks pretty awesome.

  • Vaporware

  • Go to the official website, they have all the latest information there.

  • confused why i go this email now when this video is at least a year or so old......

NS2 = either give us something new and worthwhile, or close up shop... by the time you guys release Half Life 3 will be out...

  • old as fuck

  • Why does he refer to the game as "Natural Section 2"? WTF?

  • It is Natural Selection 2 - it's the sequal to the original Natural Selection, this time fro the Half Life 2 source engine where the original was for Half Life 1.

I have to say, this particular video is not very encouraging. You guys aired this years ago. Why are you emailing this to us now?

  • This video was E-mailed to us as an example of how dynamic NS2 is going to be, which it was described as.

The real video should be in the other, but it seems that the site has overloaded. :P

  • These posters obviously fail at reading comprehension....

  • get the bhopping right and i'm sold.

  • You guys apparently didn't read the email. Watch the 5th Webcast.

  • This is exciting!

  • to be fair this was just a reminder in the context of the email, the real new stuff is in the next couple of paragraphs. bunch of whiny bitches up in this page

  • Why did I get an email about a video from over a year ago?

  • I got all excited for a video i saw a year ago :\

  • nope =\

  • yea, im hoping the other links are more promising =\

  • I just got an e-mail saying "WOW NEW NS2 VIDEO!" from the NS2 forum e-mail address... And it's this? This is an old video, VERY old?

  • It won't, they're actually making their OWN engine.. and it looks VERY promising..

  • don't scream fucking idiot!

  • wow, looks great!

  • Uhm, they have a problem or more than one problem.

    * It its randomly created huh? Then the growth would be different from each player I presume as the ragdolls in HL2.

Imagine a whole room of this bacteria shit, players will have Hull, which will interact with the world and if all players were to go on the bacteria which is randomly created, it would create enourmus lag...

    Cheers.

Could happen they've allready solved this though.

  • I'm sure it could be generated server side and then rendered client side.

  • Well building structures is also server side, maybe this can be renderd server side too, but that will prolly lag the server out over time =P

  • I really doubt it is random in any sense that affects the game- ie the infestation will be in certain places (for alien ability purposes or whatever) but the actual rendering of it appearing will be randomly generated. There will probably be some HUD or sound effect indication when you are standing in an infested area, lights will be shut off, etc.

I just hope they don't ruin the gameplay. I feel that the gameplay was incredible in the early days but has steadily gone downhill.

  • im eating and watching this O_O

  • Its fine. lol

  • you'd think Charlie could say selection after all this time

  • Yeah, he says "section" instead of "select tion". At first I thought it was not Flayra because I heard his voice during an NS game before but apparently it is and I am surprised that he pronounced selection wrong.

  • Is that possible to make the alien (Kharaa ?) team heal faster with bacterial infested section ??

    That will be cool :)

  • MUST HAVE DYNAMIC BACTERIAL GROWTH! MUST!

I'm buying that game when it comes out.

  • looks like doom3

  • Just the lighting in the map does.

  • I'm surprised you guys haven't been picked up by Valve yet. Keep it up guys!

  • They got a nice company they are trying to start

  • I wish them the best of luck

  • Yeah that is impressive !

  • Very nice. I am impressed with that.

  • Thats Source engine. looks good eh? :P

  • hl2 engine

  • that is done whith HL² or a new engine?

  • HL², it doesn't change anything about the map, other than the fact that it adds the infestation.

  • O MY GOD ! ! ! , thats insane

  • ...wow speechless..gg

  • I cant wait for Ns2 this feature looking so awesome.

  • oh my god that's beautiful
