You have to like double tap and hold LT for xbox. I figured that out when it didnt work for me either but that works. When you do that to lock on then you press b and it'll work.

With xbox360 i only got one stab at the lure order, that's just at the moment you hire the thief group, watch the B button instruction very carefully and press it, if you miss it you'll have to restart the memory and try again

I don't know why so many people are having trouble to lock on to the guy. I did what is shown in the video and it's easy. (I'm playing on PS3, maybe XBOX has glitches. By the way I have both consoles so this is not a console war.)

use the smoke bombs to distract them, but be careful not to throw the bomb on their back, I accidentally do that and got desynchronized.

if anyone is stuck where you need to lure them away, throw smoke bombs a fair bit away so the guards go a search that area and then the snitch will come thumbs up so people see

Ignore the mouthy kids going on about bitching.

On 360 simply press B to hire thieves, then log onto one of guards and TAP LT (Do not hold lt button) and the lure caption will now appear

Thats how it is suppose to work BUT I keep hitting the b button and only stop or follow commands are available. I've accidentally called in an assassination like ten times trying to target the guards to see if that is what I was doing wrong.

@jonathonraist i had the same problem...what i did was use eagle sense to look at them, then it gave me the option to lure them away.

@Aaron565pwns Thanks, I got past it the other day by switching up my weapons and then it finally gave me the option to lure them away. If anyone else is having trouble getting the option to lure, try both eagle sense and switching up your weapons.

To get the Lure Away option (shown at 1:59) you need to target the guard. Make sure he is highlighted and then briefly press LT. Then press B to lure.

this video did help me to figure out the problem. Kill the guard that is on the roof that Ezio is on at 5:48 and then you should be able to target the benefactor. I had to give LT two quick pulls to target him but it worked after the guard was dead.
