I own a 2009 R1 and you can cruise around in 1st gear doing like 45 mph and still be under 6k rpm's because first gear is so tall. Despite all the bad reviews the 09 R1 gets in the magazine literbike shootouts, this video right here makes me want to get this bike more than any of the other literbikes when I upgrade from my ZX-6R. The reviews do say it has the best partial throttle response of any of the 1000s, which is perfect as far I'm concerned since the vast majority most of the time your probably not going to be flooring one of these things.

@TheMindspank ---- Well. The significant modification i did was when i changed the stock exhaust to a YOSHI monster exhaust. I replaced the passenger seat to a seat cowl. Notice that the engince cover is polished aluminum with YOSHI case savers. I changed the clutch lever to a CRG shorty gold lever. A lot more!

There is a small metal thing inside but in the middle of the hole. The same thing i put inside my exhausts. We call it DARNA stone in the Philippines.
