  • Mosin Nagant is another alternative for a rifle. You can pick one up for about 100 bucks. Same knockdown power as a .308 or .306 and the bullets are 1/5 the price.

  • April 2012 start of WW3

  • I liked the video until I saw the picture of the starved man. Thanks for the info though

  • BTW, great videos, veritasfiles.

  • As far as firearms go. I recommend find a Russian made SKS with stripper-clipped ammo. Great for hunting, personal defense(even in VERY extreme situaions), and dependable. An AK-47 is good too, but it may not be neccessary considering it's overall bulk and weight. Bolt actions are good, but I'd prefer to have some more significant firepower, just in case.

  • need some hollow point insurance

  • what I am concerned about is people like myself that live in a small appartment in the suburbs or city. We can't grow anything anywhere

  • it is just likw when folks were preparing for the worst case during the cold war, cuban missle crisis etc. A reasonable plan would be to sustain the food, water, security needs for a week should a diaster happen. Most folks can buy into that idea w/o feeling like a "fringe" survivalist. It gives you a good starting point to build on. I've been giving this some thought recently. What essentials a family of four needs to survive for a week, I'm still looking for a good list.

  • @BerettaM9USAF There are lists available. If you're just talking about surviving in your home, you can probably come up with a lot of that just through common sense. If you're talking about possibly having to be on the move or in a strange place, then you're going to want to think about easily transportable back-packing type stuff. Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

  • @veritasfiles Thanks! I'd already be squared away but this economy has been killing me for some time now. I've been watching some of your other vids and I like the way you think. I wish I knew more folks in my area with a similiar outlook. Have to watch what I say..."loose lips sink ships" I've been trained to be mindful of OP/Com security. Looks like you were on the job in one of the vids, same job I had in the USAF. We will have to talk more.

  • @BerettaM9USAF Look at what happened at Katrina.

  • @BerettaM9USAF Good to see folks warming up to self-reliance. I read a good article a long time ago that sid that most americans are just 9 meals away from anarchy. The point was that most homes only have three days worth of food on hand, that made sense and really got me thinking. My biggest concern is drinking water, min. is 1 gal per day per person. Next two tied for 2nd security/protection and food.

  • Don't u think you would want condoms too

  • @zdkcampion Depends on what you're planning to do or what you're planning on trying to avoid doing. I'd be happy to have a kid come along, so no...not planning on too many condoms. Though I might have some for hauling water. Hehehe...

  • as stated i preffer a rifle over a shotgun, but that is just me. as for a bolt gun cheap, try a russian mosin nagant. i just this past weekend 2 jan 2011 saw them at a gun show here in fla for $125. the ammo is extra cheap $189 for 880 rounds sealed in cans for storage. now before anyone goes off on me for recomaneding this weapon remember this; if it si good enough for a guy named Vasily Zatsev its good enough for me. (check out the movie enemy at the gates if your not familiar with this guy)

  • @abntemplar82 just curious......why do you prefer a rifle over a shotgun?

  • Exactly how long does canned food last past it's "expiration" date? I know they put those dates on there just to make you buy more and more.

  • @TIKIMAN198 It depends on the pruduct in the can, but as long as the can has a good seal, it will stay edible for several years. However, the nutrition and taste go down in quality slowly after expiration. You want to try to eat it by the expiration date, and I personally wouldn't let anything go more than 1 year beyond the expiration unless I simply had no other choice. Just make sure you don't have any dented cans and keep them in moderate conditions.

  • @TIKIMAN198 I can tell you from personal experience that they last for years after the expiration date. Yes they wont be as nutritious but they wont come anywhere close to killing you either. As an example my wifes friend came across a jar of peaches that her grandmother canned over 20 years ago. They had turned black on the outside but there was nothing wrong with them and they tasted like they were canned yesterday.

  • dude y did u really think that the world was gunna die cause of a ressecion

  • @xxvolcomkidxx13 I didn't and don't think that my world is "gunna" die because of recession. When you understand what I'm saying in my videos, then please return with a sensible question. Thanks.

  • @xxvolcomkidxx13 hay volcom think nearly 80% of all land that harvests food such as corn, wheat, tobacco, tomatoes, potadoes and all other major harvest crops use pesticides or other oil using products and if you know anything about soil it gets addicted to the pesticides and other oil using products if an economic collapse did happen who would make the products nobody would because there out scavenging for food shelter so do the math 7-8 billion people only about 450,000 yrds of land to grow on.

  • @xxvolcomkidxx13 what is happening now is actually far worse than just a recession. It is a boarderline depression getting worse by the day. The government is literally printing more and more money in a futile attempt to pay it's bills. We are in massive debt to foreign countries. Literally thousands of business's have farmed out their manufacturing jobs over seas Even the president says it is the worst economic time since the great depression....it is far worse than the average Joe realizes

  • I can't eat silver or gold, I can't eat iron or lead. Stock food and water. Hunt, fish and trap.

Think, Solve and Plan for the future.

    Have fun and Be safe.

    dc aka Crockett

  • @drac060 Gold, Silver, Iron, and lead aren't meant for you to eat. If you think so, then you don't understand their place in a good prep strategy.

  • @veritasfiles tho lead will kill some animals for food.

  • It wouldn't hurt to mention that most seeds you get from the store or gardening magazines are hybrids. The second generation of seeds will not grow.

  • @thedamnedapostle That's true......there's all kinds of things that could be mentioned, but at the time my camera was only capable of 5 minute vids. Some info invariably gets left out. That's a good tip though. Most people will find that out after the first season or so though.

  • I love the way this guy has more guns then canned food or water. Only in America would you see the emphasis on guns, guns, guns lol. Would you ever take your guns and shove them up your hole pipe.

  • @boscoesarmy Do you also love knowing that I have a lot more canned food than I do guns? Guns are just one part of preparation. In other words, they are not a solution to the problem. It takes many different things. If you don't see the need for a basic set of firearms, that's your business. But please don't pretend that reasonable surival preparation items are somehow unwarranted or unusual.

  • @veritasfiles Easy on the guns. We get the point at the start with the cute pictures of the ammo. Your a little over kill with all the pictures of the firearms

  • @boscoesarmy all the unprepared idiots will be trying to steal his food when SHTF so he's very wise in having protection.

  • @jjemmett Thanks for the support.

  • @boscoesarmy and only in your country would you say "then" when you should have said "than". Why don'y you just shut your ignorant uneducated mouth, drink some warm beer and get your teeth fixed

  • A .357? and a bolt action? or a .22. holy shit man we need to talk

  • @TexasDistortion Talk about what? I'm talking about survival, not warfighting.

  • @veritasfiles And what do you think will happen if SHTF? People are just going to keep to them selves and try not to die? A heavily armed group of people will come and koill you and you family for that water and a can of nuts. A revolver or squirrel gun wont get you far.

  • @TexasDistortion Since I know my neighbors well, have a survival network (each with guns), and live in a small town, I think the chances of that are fairly slight. Of course, what I recommended in the video was a bare minimum of firepower, but ultimately even if a person had an AR, AK, or virtually anything else, he's still at the same level of risk when it comes to large roving groups.

  • @veritasfiles I agree brother,

  • I agree, gun will be a good thing.

There are other ways to get squirrels, rabbits, etc..

  • @EarthGameOver Great comments! I couldn't agree more!

  • 357? dude wtf we should all carry a 9mm or 45 acp very commonly carried by the military or nato easy to take the ammo after they are toast.

  • rugar 10/22 with sub sonic rounds are just as quite. If it comes down to feeding my family or obeying a hunting law we are eating.

  • @oldjarheadsniper They certainly can be, but pellets are easier to come by and they will generally bring down most of what any sub-sonic .22 round is going to bring down within about a 50 to 60 yard range. If you have a stock of sub-sonic rounds and can procure replacements, by all means use the riskier means. Just recognize the risk ahead of time and know that it's not always going to be necessary to take such a risk.

  • Well most ppl think I am insane. However my wife and I have a rather large garden in our backyard conceled by a 6 foot fence. We have over a years worth of food stored up which consist of dehydrated items, home canning, and store bought items. As well as butt wiper stored, We have generators because of hurricanes but we have a harbor freight solar panel that will run a fan, a few lights, and a radio or TV. Generators may have a fuel problem in a collaps. So if you want generators I will sell em.

  • @oldjarheadsniper Generators are necessarily short-term, unless they are batter and solar recharged. If you have solar, it's a good idea to have at least one back-up incase your panels are stolen or damaged. Depending on the panels, it doesn't take much sometimes to change their output significantly. Glad you're prepared though.

  • @veritasfiles They could get damaged. The likely hood of them being stolen is pretty low. The penalty is severe.

  • I live in the city do you think air rifle for hunting is necessary?

  • @ferrari4sale If you're talking about some of the higher powered pellet and beebee guns, then yes, I can an air rifle is neceessary for anyone, city or country. 1) It helps to save on real ammo. 2) It's a lot more quiet than a sound barrier breaking bullet, which may be of paramount importance depending upon time & circumstance. You may only be looking at picking off birds eventually, as everything else will likely be hunted out, but at least you'll have something to bring some food in.

  • @veritasfiles But in the city it's against the law to kill animal or even to shoot anything outside your property. I can't just take my rifle to the park and shoot bird or small game.

  • @ferrari4sale Yeah, you may have to get creative in how you go about procuring food, but it's possible that police will not be available to stop someone with a pellet gun. Of course, hopefully, you could get something on or near your property. The relatively silent nature of these kinds of guns, relative to smokeless powder driven firearms makes them tremendously advantageous.

  • The author was not sure of what shotgun to buy and use for defense or hunting. I say use a Mossberg 500 or a Remington 870 in a 12 ga. that take up to 3" Magnum shells. Both shotguns are used by the military and the police. They are cheap to buy, easy to use, light to carry and very reliable. Don't waste your money on anything else. I have used both and they are worth the money... I do favor the Remington 870 just a little. It seems a little more solid when shooting.

  • @drac060 Great recommendations!

  • check out bc5620 's silver vid and some info regarding the collapse of US

  • You haven't heard of Peggy Layton, have you? Mrs. Layton has a B.S. Nutrition from BYU. In her "Emergency Food Storage & Survival Handbook," Mrs. Layton spells out how much EACH person in your household needs per year. Example: you NEED 200 lbs. of protein per year. Buying from Emergency Essentials. that comes out to FIVE superpails (45 lbs. ea.) per person. Mrs. Layton also has other books out on cooking with dehydrated food, as well as how LONG they'll last in their unopened cans.

  • I have started now from 13/01/2010. Bought tuna cans expiry 2013. Will do more on Sunday-buying long shelf life products. Can you give me more ideas, which food is best for storage as there many tin foods with long shelf life. TY

  • I have a longer reply for you, but you'll have to add me as a friend before I can send it to you. Let me know...

  • @SKTPSY

buy in bulk . Rice beans oats are great whole ground wheat. for the price they are great. store in food grade buckets and buy gama seal lids for them. get ready

  • @alfredo6243 Buy superpails, available at Emergency Essentials.

  • hey thats a great web site thanks

  • No problem, glad to help.

  • @SKTPSY Buy dehydrated. Mountain House, Provident pantry good brands. You can find them at Emergency Essentials, which also has MRE's and superpails of beans, rice, whole grains. Red Feather is a good canned butter that has to be mixed once out of the can. Do an Internet search for this one, as many retailers are fast selling out. Yoder makes really delicious canned cooked meats, including bacon, hamburger, and beef. Again, Internet search.

  • @mbabist01 Thank you, means a lot!

  • Emergency Essentials carries Yoder bacon, and that's it. Man, is that stuff good! Yoder is an Amish family with their own meat store, so you know you can trust it. I just tried another seller yesterday, because I wanted Yoder hamburger. I can hardly wait to try a can, I'll let you know about it all.

  • @mbabist01 thank you!

  • Why did you list collapse of mexico? I havent heard anything of the mexican government being in trouble........

  • And you won't hear a whole lot about it, but the reason is because that video is from a year or more ago, when Mexico had essentially lost control of its country to the various drug gangs. They have since killed several key drug cartel leaders and deployed the military in various parts of the country. Though Mexico is still vulnerable and remains in a precarious position, they are not nearly as close to collapse today, due to an ineffective central or Federal government, as they were back in 08.

  • @veritasfiles

Not to meantion that mexico is going to be a net importer of energy in the next few years. Their Cantarell Field (one of the largest in the world) is in permanent decline. That will be the end of their cheap oil and should contribute massively to their decline.

  • Yeah, you're right. While I'm not as concerned about their collapse as I used to be, I think their collapse is probably inevitable, if for no other reason than that so much of their economy relies on American dollars making their way into Mexico's economy. Without that, they lose anywhere from 1/5 to 1/3 of their consuming power and it's down they go. Their oil decline is also a huge problem for them as well. I think oil is going to be an increasing problem for everyone as time goes on. Thanks!

  • Yeah, we're in for some serious stuff. I recommend videos by Jeff Rubin. He talks about how we will run into the "roof" of high oil prices whenever we try to get out of recession. Interesting guy. Love your vids btw.

  • Thanks for the info & support! Take care...

  • When did you start storing?

  • Having extra food? A long time ago. Storing for economic collapse? Probably May or June of 2008. Why do you ask? Are you storing? If so, when did you start? Keep in mind that all food related pictures you see in my videos are from about September of 2008, at the latest. My food storage is several times larger now.

  • @veritasfiles I live in UK and I haven't heard food storage here. I found the videos here in you tube by chance when I was looking for canning foods. I am now worried and at the same time it make sense to store foods rather than relying on weekly basis on others, such as grocers or supermarket. This is good contingency plan in action! Thank you for inspirations!

  • A better rifle would be an AK47, the most durable, reliable weapon there is. Good for hunting and good for battle. They are relatively cheap too. Another good weapon would be a pellet gun, so you can kill small animals without bringing attention to yourself. I agree with you on the shotgun, I have a Mossberg 590. The 590 is the only model acceptable for use by the U.S. military. Another durable weapon and fun to shoot.

  • That is certainly another option, and there is nothing wrong with that option, but this video is for the purpose of basic preparation. As far as I'm concerned, the buying of AK's, AR-15's, or any other tactical carbines or quasi-assault rifles would come after the acquisition of more basic equipment tht would be adequate to deal with hunting and the more typical home defense. Beyond that, your suggestion would certainly be a good one.

  • Anybody who lives in the socialist state of California should either consider (A) Moving (B) Running for public office (C) Stock piling lots of Ammunition before the the state implements it's socialist fingerprinting in a couple of years (D) Moving (E) Moving and (F) Moving .......You might want to consider leaving the state before they put up a huge wall to block your exit.

  • MrSirPhase3: Can't. As of 1/1/10, all "pistol" (read a lot of rifle as well) ammo is kept behind a counter. Californians who want ammo have to show their driver's license and have their thumb printed. In addition, residents of Sacramento County (SF, SD too?), have to fill out a form stating what ammo their buying, how many boxes, and why. I guess ammo dealers in Nevada, Oregon, and Arizona are doing a booming (no pun intended) business in sales to Californians.

  • mbabist01. Then I suggest californians buy a ton of ammunition out of state and start stockpiling, or better yet, pack up and leave the state.

  • Just out of curiosity, What is the NRA doing about this finger printing law?

I don't live in California anymore and haven't lived there since 1969 but I try to keep an eye on the Liberals steady march towards a communist takeover of the entire state.

  • MrSirPhase3: 1) Way ahead of you there. I left that crummy state in 2000. Currently live in one of the 34 where one can have a CCW. Although the liberals are pretty wacko here, they live in the city, I live in the country. b) Unknown. If the NRA wins over the Chicago law, hopefully the California crap can be struck down.

  • Mbabist01. Right on dude. I forgot about the socialist city of Chicago and the NRA's suit with their government. DC lost the first lawsuit, now Chicago has to try another approach.

    Keep stockpiling.

  • If i have to live in fear, i only need one bullet.

  • That's precisely the point of preparation. If you are prepared to be self-reliant, then you need not live in fear. I think you're looking at the issue from the wrong end.

  • I don't know where you got that photo of that poor gentleman, but it is beyond disturbing.

Here in CA, we will have to buy ammo next yr if we don't want to be traced. Starting 2011, we will have to show a license, and be FINGERPRINTED just to purchase ammo.

But they can't stop me from driving to NV for the day.....yet!!

  • when i look at the comments below i feel like a gun nut.

  • I can understand why.

  • You'll need to check your state & local laws. Probably the easiest way to do that interactively is simply to call your local county Sheriff's office. You can ask them whatever questions you need answered. In my state, Missouri, you don't need any kind of license for either gun and you are not required to register the gun with anyone, though they will do a momentary background check on you at the gun store before they let you walk out the door. No automatic weapons unless purchased by 1987.

  • You can own a Ruger 10/22 in every state, and you'll have to check the laws of any foreign country in which you wish to establish ownership yourself.

  • No, you don't. Generally, they'll cost between $175 to $250, depending on where you get it. That particular gun is available in all 50 states of the United States, and is one of the most widely circulated .22's in existence. If you live in a foreign country, you'll have to deal with your own laws regarding the ownership of firearms. In the United States, you should be able to buy the weapon with no problems.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm not sure what you're talking about. I'll be losing weight with everyone else, but I'll be eating my food stores. Not only that, but I have hidden food stores in other locations that I can get to if need be. I have weapons, I have silver, I have a bug-out system, and I have food in various locations. I'll be in much better shape than the so-called Zombies. But yeah, if someone tries to break into my home, I'll start shooting. No problem.

  • Comment removed

  • It's never fun to kill people, and if you think it is, then there's something wrong with you. People won't know that I'm eating, as my food will be heavily rationed, and I'll be losing a lot of weight. In addition, I have dogs inside and outside of my house. I'll probably also have an armed house guest by that time as well. So if someone wants to break in and steal...good luck!

  • veritasfiles: They keep saying to buy gold. I work in investments, and I also say to buy gold. However, people need to remember that gold is primarily used for wealth storage - silver is used in actual trade. If you want to preserve your wealth, buy gold. BUT - if you want to buy and sell after economic collapse, you'll need silver, and lots of it. Buy the five-ounce bags they have on eBay - their under lots or collections. Also buy a few tubes of the collector silver dollars. All are 90% silver

  • im 14 but i want to be ready for when the economic collapse occurs, only problem is its going to be hard tho gert ready when my parants dont care about it

  • Do you have any money? If you have any money or a way to earn any money, then you can prepare. If you don't have any money, then I'm not sure what I'd suggest. You can always ask your parents to buy something for you, such as a can or jar of peanuts or any othe nuts when they do their grocery shopping. Typically, if unopened, they'll stay good for at least a year and have much of the protein and necessary fats you'll need to survive. For Christmas & birthday, ask for survival knife, etc...

  • a watermaker would be good too : )

  • Actually, if you can, having both a revolver and a semi auto is good. I have done more research on revolvers since my last posting and there are two good reasons to have a revolver as well as a semi auto.

    1. revolvers don't jam or get fouled up like a semi auto can. I was shooting a Ruger SR-9 over the weekend and the damn thing jamed and it took me at least 30 seconds to clear.

    2. A revolver can remain loaded indefinitely without wearing out the spring in a magazine.

  • Don't buy a revolver. They only hold six shots where a semi auto 9mm can carry 10 or more.

Also, a revolver can't be reloaded quickly. Fumbling around with shells is time consuming. With a semi auto you just drop one clip and ram the next one home. Reloading takes two or three seconds.

Buy the Rugger mini 14. It fires the .223 round which is the same round as the M-16, very powerful and availability is better

  • I normally don't comment ever, but I can't resist here. That revolver I recognise. It fires a fire powerful round, that will knock someone down, and kill them almost regardless of where you aim. I can't remember what caliber it is though. The .223, isn't as powerful, but it is way more accurate, and is the primary ammunition of the U.S. armed forces. AK's which are better, fire a slightly larger 308., but if .223 is a must. Use the (SPR), or SL-8, but for handgun I say Dessert Eagle 50. cal. ;)

  • If I were using a firearm to defend my home, a tactical shotgun would be THE BEST. American Gunsmithing Institute has a video on converting a Rem 870 into one. Second choice would be a revolver (Taurus Judge great, but I'm prejudiced towards my .44 Mags). Crimble67 has it right about a semi, they're good for a gunfight, but tend to jam (stovepiping VERY common if use crummy ammo, like CCI).

  • If you're an experienced gun owner, some what you've said goes without saying. The same is true if you think you'll essentially be fighting in something similar to a military campaign. However, for the novice or average citizen who will likely only be brandishing a gun or firing at small groups of thugs, revolvers and/or rifles being fired by more than one person will generally do the job.

  • If you got that from my video, then I don't know what to tell you. I certainly didn't say that. I'm expecting a difficult economic environment because we've so long ignored the nature of how economics actually works. I'm not expecting an end to the world though, and I don't know what you're talking about with regard to religious fanaticism. You might want to respond to what is actually said rather than what you read into what's said.

  • Also. To anyone it may concern, they make speed loaders for revolvers, I have held that same gun in my hand, and familiarized with a matching speed loader the owner had. I don't think I have seen it fired, but its pretty powerful. Also if yer going to use an assault, or tactical rifle, of the .223 variety, make sure you ars using high quality 5.56 specialty ammution. It is good stuff. Also a Colt 1911 is a bad ass handgun. 45. ACP hollow point rounds. It is fast, accurate, and powerful.

  • CBassAndFriends: I've got a Colt Gold Cup and it IS nice. I can carry it cocked (I've got a CCW), all I have to do is drop the safety on the left side. THAT SAID, my beef is that it only carries up to 10 rounds. On the other hand, I can carry up to 33 in my Glock 19 - but first I have to rack it because I am chary of the safety on the trigger.

  • lol

  • I hold food`n water 4 6-9month.

Keep some in waterproof plasticfoil ready 2 bury 2save it from the looting mob!

    Something 2 bargain, alcohol, tobacco.

Solar panel 2 run radio or mobile.

    Little gold.

    Medicin.

10 times 100 dollars each in different currencies!

  • Keep in mind ammunition is also going to be a tangible asset. The price is never going to go down, therefore making it a wise investment. Soon, the prices are going to skyrocket. Remember, you can use that ammo to trade or barter with. Trade for gold or silver, food, gas.

  • ammo will be worth its weight in silver at least

  • it all most is now lol give it a few months

  • Just one suggestion: Using gas heaters indoors is NOT fine. You can die from carbon monoxide poisoning within hours.

  • you can use ethanol indoor

  • Yeah, I recommend Alco Brite gelled fuel. Look it up on-line.

  • Used 'em my whole life and I'm not dead yet. Though they were kerosene and not gas. You do need to ventilate, but if you have your windows, especially the inaccesible ones propped open at least 6 inches, you'll generally be fine. You shouldn't run a kerosene heater all the time anyway. Only when its time to cook, bath, or for a short time during the night in order to help everyone get warm.

  • Nice shooler :)

  • water, water, water

  • sucks, if this really does happen. life is going to be really hard, i do believe people will die when this happens, lots of people.

i wish i could get a gun, live with my parents, and they will never allow me to get a gun, not even a bb gun,lol

  • I suppose it depends upon how old you are, but that wouldn't stop me from procuring a small firearm. The only advice I can give you is to try to do so off the grid by looking for ads on-line and checking local papers where older folks might be selling an old .38 six-shooter. The best way to get a gun is to try to buy it from an older owner who doesn't care if the firearm is transferred into your ownership on paper. Best of luck. You can still buy ammo for barter. .22 ammo is still cheap.

  • stocking ammo is harder than you think . alot of places the shelves are bare , or on back order

  • That's true. You just have to keep looking. Go to Bass Pro, Cabela's, Wal-Mart, and anywhere else that carries ammo and try to buy some initial ammo immediately. You can worry about stocking a larger supply once you have your first few boxes. Some is better than none.

  • root vegies is the key, tomatoes always good, lot of vitamin C, so is Cedar tea, or spruce, remember the conficer tea, ti will provide lots of vitamin C.

  • when you buy canned food watch out for gmo ingredients like soybean oil, corn syrup etc. buy organic if possible

  • When it comes to survival, you may not have that luxury, though I don't disagree with you.
