This is total bullshit, these people are lying...When I got prostate cancer at 47 yrs old, in our great American healthcare system, I had to wait FOUR MONTHS FOR SURGERY, for CANCER!!!
Single payer universal healthcare would be far better than the capitalist for profit system we now have...
@whothaplaya That's bullshit too, I have a friend in Canada that got his prostate cancer surgery in 3 weeks, it took me 4 months to get it in the USA.
"For profit" healthcare is exactly what it say's, FOR PROFIT!!! Big corporations making money on OUR misery.
No dialysis for people over 55 yrs old??? That is a complete lie. This youtube channel has only one video, I checked out her story and it could not me substantiated. I know people over 55 yrs old get dialysis in England. This is a big lie.
This documentary is bullshit!!! I just came back from the UK. I only had to wait 4 days to get an MRI done! Single Payer health care system does work!!!! Privatize health insurance companies are out for one thing: PROFIT!!!!
There's no such thing as "free health Care" in any Health Care System Private or Public, Single Payer or not. Unless your Low Income. Whether your paying for your Health Care in Premiums or High Taxes your paying for it.
Ashmore was president of NAHU whose memers (insurance underwriters , brokers and agents) would be redundant in a single payer system. These professions add COSTS to health care and deliver no health care.
Google this:
"Francesca Crozier has received kidney dialysis for the past six years"
for a more balanced and up-to-date view.
PS age discrimination in health is illegal in the UK
Why aren't we told that Ashmore was president of NAHU whose members (health insurance agents, brokers, consultants) and her company sells insurance. i.e. the bits of the "health industry" that don't deliver health care and which would be wiped out by single payer?
For real situation in England just google this:
"Francesca Crozier has received kidney dialysis for the past six years"
Your statement is simply untrue. People come to the USA for treatement because a lot of other countries do not allow certain procedures.
For instance: Japan does not allow children to have heart implants due to moral reasons. So, a lot of Japanese come here to get them... Because we have more relaxed morals..
It is an absolute FACT that thousands (about 44,000) Americans die every year because of lack of healthcare. Please stop spreading lies.
If that's a fact, what is your source? Japans find heart transplants immoral? What nonsense! In your rush to try to get something for nothing you are throwing away the best healthcare system, where even leaders of other countries come here. That's why Premier Danny Williams is coming to the USA for his surgery, to avoid inferior Canadian medical care.
@twincrier He's going by the crazy research studying 9004 people, and finding 3% of them died, it was assumed the lack of insurance killed them. I was based on another report by CMS showing in a city some people tended to get early care after receiving Medicare and Medicaid.
Peachcare vs Medicaid studies actually showed many on Medicaid still did not receive early care due to "shame" no provider, and inexperience with the system.
They never checked to see if the 3% got healthcare, ahem.
why would you want to give up your freedom to the government,if you don't get the public option they will put you in jail or you can just pay twelve hundred dollars in extra taxes
@12catty21 Yeah if the wicked broomholder from the West and Prince Harry the phony king of DC have their way.
That's tyranny. Being poor is not a crime.
But Pelosi owns around 1/4- 1/2 million in stock in AIG. She also got $259,600 in F/I/R PAC's, $85,000 in Health PAC's, & $349,000 in Labor PAC's, to run for Rep. of CA, so she's concerned about Wallstreet.
The neocons can squeal and scream like schoolgirls all they like but Britain will not be returning to the dark ages. The NHS is here to stay. And very soon Lady Liberty shall cast off the chains of the insurance compaines and her people shall breath free again. When I was ten I saw a man collapse in a mall in NH, someone screamed 'Call 911' but he said 'No please I have kids - the house will be foreclosed - happened to my Brother in law'. So Sad!
Having lived in both the UK and the US, I can say without any doubt that in every single aspect of healthcare the UK is far superior to the US. Even the skill and knowledge of the doctors and nurses in the UK is of far more calibre than the best medical treatment I have experienced in the US. Compared to the NHS of the UK, the US healthcare system is nothing but complete horse shit.
She said try to promote the American system in the UK, based on her short sighted analysis, they would get rid of their syystem and adopt the American system-yeah right Wake up with your Rubblish. @ArcaneDigital The profits go from your's and my pockets to the lobbyist groups, fat cats in Wallstreet and politicians in an economic "theory" (yeah, right, wink wink) called the "trickle up, tickle down" pyramind scam. I'm part of NAHU and volunteer for the uninsured helpline. That means helping people get on 1 of 7 CURRENT gov't run programs that my State of Wis offers to citizens that can not access the private system. What have YOU done to help the uninsured today?
@smschwartzer I'm doing research, raising money, and trying to get others on board to develop a co-op assurance program to help the uninsurable. It's just starting and I can foresee a long hard road ahead, but we need to do something.
Thank you for your help. We need more like you. Speak with actions, not talk.
It is every private insurance companies fiduciary responsibly to "MAXIMIZE PROFITS FOR THEIR SHAREHOLDERS" and that's the bottom line! That concept is immoral
We are already insuring the old and poor/unhealthy using medicare and medicaid. Why not get the rest of us in there?
Ya know, the gov't does do many things very well. I don't know why everybody says the gov't is the crappiest business in the world. If so, why are we such a spoiled nation?
Remember , the rule of insurance is to provide coverages for an "unforeseen" illness. Not being covered, then waiting till you get sick to by insurance will not work.
Many of these plans will cover you for many health conditions after a defined period of time. Better to have this than nothing at all !
How is this possible? by collecting tax dollars from those who do not think they need to be covered now as the lady in this video had chosen to do, we can insure the 45% of population who asks for help when they need it yet banked on the notion that they would not need insurance until they actually do.
Universal Coverage term is a good thing.
Single payer system is not such a good thing , yet could work if we all come together on this topic.
The feds charge a tax for a base line of health care. Those who have jobs can buy up to the type of plan they have now for less than they are paying presently.
Let us also understand the difference between the terms Universal Coverage (every citizen most be covered by other a self pay of a state funded program) vs the fear tactic of replacing the term Universal Covers with A Single Payer system)
We could have both systems in play at the same time.
Try to think of a health care system that works like the Educational Tax vouchers which many states are adapting.
@teek55 Variables are good because if something like late 2008 hits and one fails, at least you have the other.
Relying on only one way is taking a big chance.
Insurances make money not only by underwriting and premiums, they also have float to make money on the market by investments. But bear markets lead them to raise premiums or redefine underwriting options. So more people find themselves refused.
co-ops would fulfill your option, but pay provider fund, or some will abuse it.
The advance sage of cancer in this video suggests that this person was not under a doctors care. While on long term travel, she takes ill and has no TRAVEL MEDICAL insurance which was available to her. To make this assertion that this is a good reason not to support Universal Medical Coverage for US citizens was shallow in deed !
@teek55 You can have the best care in the world and still die of cancer, ARDS, Septicemia, nosocomial infections, COPD, heart attacks and failure, etc.
To err is human which leads to mistakes in hospitals and 80,000 /year die of nosocomial infections according to CDC. (You got it in the hospital)
Twisting the Truth. Shame on NAHU for taking this position with this unconvincing video of a US citizen who was traveling overseas who CHOSE not to fly back to the USA to seek treatment for her cancer. This was an unfortunate situation , yet avoidable.
Canada has mediocre health care at best, as it is socialized and yet they only have a tenth of the population that we do. Socialized medicine will never work in this country. If we had real tort reform (so Dr.'s and hospitals didn't have such exhorbitant malpractice insurance premiums) and stopped treating illegals and people who opted to pay for luxury items before they'd ever opt to pay for health insurance premiums, maybe we wouldn't be gouged so badly at hospitals and when we have tests.
by the way, if the govt lowered taxes we would all be able to pay for OUR OWN healthcare. you socialists have an amazing ability to actually have faith in govt institutions which have proven to never be as effective as privatized business. i welcome your disagreement, but history speaks for itself.
I figure we can insure every US citizen with tax incentives and a "limited defined benefit plan" for as little as $15 to $20 per week! Wont be the same type of insurance at $250 per month . Yet it would be good for 75% of the time. It will serve as a bridge plan until the public forms of insurance kick in such as Medicaid or other forms of public assistance we have now.
@teek55 Japan has something like that for $280/month and a small yearly deductible. But they are underpaying the providers and having some trouble now.
They also are geared towards healthy lifestyles and high work ethics. If we tried that, there are too many not working and we would not provide enough for Every American.
However, I am looking at a similar option as a co-op that would pull out a group of working people, but unisurable. Rationing is required but negotiations could ease that.
the "free" healthcare is paid for with our taxes- called CHIP, Medicaid, Medicare and most urban counties have free clinics and hospitals.if you ever went to one you would know why nationalized healthcare is a BAD idea.you wait, and wait, and wait, and wait some more all the while someone who doesn't pay a dime in taxes gets treated before you. patient care should be between a doctor and a patient.look at japan's system.they mandate age limits on what age is acceptable to be treated.isthatfair?
dude, do you have brain or did you just comment on this video without actually watching it. medical co's are in biz to make a profit. whats wrong with that? sure they shouldn't gouge consumers but why in the world would you want to nationalize healthcare and give control to the govt which is the most mismanaged business out there. your costs would go up and your care would get worse. nationalization is a nice term for socialism. by the way, we already have free (taxpayer)healthcare
Heck, I could go find one (thousands, really)person that had a terrible experience with our multi-payer healthcare system and do an eight minute documentary about their horrible ordeal. I could relay the "facts?" about how I pay $350/month for coverage as a healthy 20 yr. old in one of the cheapest healthcare states in the US (UT). But all of that doesn't mean that we should switch to Universal Healthcare. Likewise, this documentary does nothing to sway me. Better luck next time.
Johnson154...if you are paying $350 per month for a single healthcare plan and are 20 years old and you live in Utah then you are getting screwed and you are not very smart. In about ten minutes I could get a rate of half that amount. Got to the website of SelectHealth or Altius and apply. Easy.
I know its expensive. I work for Team Nash, a healthcare broker's office. We are a max rated group, so I got stiffed by all my coworkers buggin out on prescriptions. Luckily, I don't pay my premium. ER takes care of 100% of the single premium. Oh yeah, and I am with SelectHealth already :P
Fact is the young adult generation is paying taxes so the retired, poor, children, etc can have healthcare while they are struggling and going bankrupt paying for it.
Fact is the working class is getting screwed when it comes to medicine ... what good is all of the technology if you cannot afford it of if your coverage does not cover it?
The real truth is the medical corporations need to be nationalized for their sheer greed ... were hospitals not owned by the counties some years ago?
Why would the company's, that you say are greedy, want to stay in business if they weren't going to make money? You think a doctor who has gone to school for 8 years or more should get the same pay or less pay than Joe the plumber? Move to Russia and let me know how it's worked out for them.
We already pay the hospitals public money in the forms of grants, bonds, welfare, medicare, etc ... why is it that the hospitals want to be capitalist when it comes to taking profits, but when it comes to free money they want to act socailist?
The fact is America is paying enough in taxes to the hospitals for nationalized healthcare.
Hospitals need to get off the public tit if they want to be capitalist, or be nationalized.
@2manygitars Funny it's bad when a doctor gets a couple hundred thousand per year and it's highway robbery. But if a singer/dancer/actor gets billions for making faces and crooning at you, it's ok for them to be rich?
Who said it was highway robbery if a doctor makes six figures a year? And as far as singers, etc. making more, it just shows you what the public values more. I suppose they rather be more happy than well.
This is so fake it's shameful. Surely even Americans know this is a load of bullshit. Please excuse my bad language.

Sounds very sincere, but this story is fishy.
1. Visitors to the UK MUST come with travel insurance coverage. She would be in a private facility unless she was very gravely ill and close to death.
2. It is illegal to discriminate in UK on age grounds, even in medicine.
3. Is this video produced by the NAHU representing health underwriters not needed in single payer?
4. Shouldn't Elizabeth Ashmore's connections to NAHU have been revealed?

Our midical care is not capitalistic!

@ben5017 You're right. It's mixed.
VA is socialized medicine. Medicare and Medicaid is socialized insurance. Military hospitals are socialized medicine.
Then there are some free clinics that run on govt and private funds. Etc.
