Meh it's not finished and it's kinda ugly. It's a big metal looking spike in the middle of a dry, sandy place. This one look better in Chicago or something.
The only way they can think is to build as much attractions as possible.
But they did not choose a perfect spot.
But it is stunning all the cities in the world.
Since they have the money, why not competing with the other cities? So they want to beat Hong Kong.
But I expect Dubai to be more fair. Dubai is too competitive. And I am telling the truth here. Rate this comment up or down, its up to you if you agree or not.
agreed...with the oil its believed their reserves might even go down by as early as late 2010...but the developers have done a tremendous job in making the city absolutely irresistable i mean a study resently showed that even with the slower economy, record tourists visited the city...and why wouldnt you...they have the burj, the 2 palm islands, the picture of the world islands and soon maybe 2014, 15 another highest skyscraper which will be as much as 100-200 feet higher
Why? You'll get so disappointed a day later after you found out how many things are going to be completed.
Dubai is just like a virtual game. You have unlimited money, but can only build possible things. Everything is free. But until everything runs out and expires, you sit there and watch the game continue for years.
i happen to go there every 3 months or so and let me tell you even though i know there is a lot of development, there continues to be a shock and awe kind of moment and let me tell you it cant be beat...and for the palms they are just as amazing in person as they are from the air
what a beautiful well planned city!! They are taking advantage of the no height restrictions and building to the sky!!! They'll have so much more greenspace.. and totally appreciate it in 20 years!!.. Here in Vancouver, we have stupid height restrictions... and now we can't do anything except charge 4 million dollars for a 800 sq foot condo!!.. very sad:-(... stupid morons.. and our city is nothing more than a gross concrete jungle...
Although Dubai's economy was built on the back of the oil industry, revenues from oil and natural gas currently account for less than 6% of the emirate's revenues
you get your facts straight! They have like $1TRILLION on bank accounts that funds ALL the infrastructure of the projects and the project themselves to some extent! You don't fund projects with GDP you fund it with CASH!

I wonder how impressive once everything stops.
All the construction sites and all the dusts disappear years later.
People should go Dubai like once everything stops.
I feel sad and disappointed for the ones who go vacation on a big giant construction site.
That seems fun?

How far are you from Burj Dubai?
It looks like it is the same distance as if I was from the US Bank Tower, and it looks as tall as this building in camera.
US Bank Tower looks a lot fatter.
But, it seems like you are 1-2 miles away from Burj Dubai.
Well... my point is to talk about an illusion.
Tall buildings never look outstanding.
A super tall building only makes the surrounding small. If the surrounding is too big, it makes the tallest small.
It just takes an illusion to come to your eyes!

Don't be fooled.
Oil is expiring in 2012.
So Dubai want to rise the city.
The only way they can think is to build as much attractions as possible.
But they did not choose a perfect spot.

The palm islands look great high in the air.
You can barely see anything by street level.
Dubai is a place to go later on in the future.
It isn't great to go right now.
Why? You'll get so disappointed a day later after you found out how many things are going to be completed.

It is great if you take a lot of photos of the construction city. Later on, your pictures will worth a lot.
Can you see the Palm's shape?
The palms seem so low and flat!
