  • I have all Gov't Mule and Trucks albums. Good players, solid. Not great.Go listen to the low fidelity recordings of Duane circa 1970 and 1971 and you will hear inspiration. You can hear Duane and Dickey's interplay skills building. No Duane without Dickey, no Dickey without Duane. The current ABB lineup is a sterile shell compared to what they were,I've seen bar bands do their stuff much better than they can now. In 100 years Duane and Dickey will be studied by players, Haynes et all, forgotten.

  • CD?? what's that? lol

  • Not an original bone in either Warren or Derek's body. It's not their fault as they're 3rd generation players not much original left to do. I was lucky in the time and place I was born and got to see the originals.

Duane and Dickey as great as they were together; if you listen carefully to all their recorded work you realize that the magic the genius was ephemeral largely between summer of 1970 and Duane's death a year and a half later. At least they never got fat and played Vegas.

  • Hell yea!!!

  • just cant move fingers fast enough to keep up with this!

  • an awesome slide player is Sonny Landreth, who has definitely made a style all his own. When you listen to a player ,never having heard the song before and still know who it is ,that player has created a style unique enough to be identifiable on its own,and thats what Sonny has done. His playing is unlike any other slide player I ever heard, and I'm fans of them all from the early ones to Derek and on.I love them all, just thought I would mention Sonny because his playing is really unlike any others

  • Sure, no Duane, no ABB, but everyone in there makes a huge contribution. I've loved all the guitarists after, particularly Jack Pearson and Derek. When I hear someone call Derek "ok" on slide, I know they're not listening with their ears, but with their nostalgia or something else. Derek is one of the great blues rock players of all time. Tedeschi Trucks band is an amazing band and to miss them now is your loss.

  • Duane Allman was a pioneer, everyone after him, in this band, was a settler,...bottom line, if not for Duane there would have never been an Allman Brothers Band.....I grew up with the real thing, the rest of this takes quite a bit of adjustment

  • Dickey Betts IS the Allman Brothers Band!!

  • i cant believe you guys are ripping on derek trucks. Its not his orchestra first of all and ask anyone who watches the allman brothers. they all love his style and what he brings to the band. Even Duane would have loved to play with him. appreciate the journey theyve taken to this point. it sucks duane and dickey arent in the band anymore true. but dont go rip derek for being one of the best if not the best slide players ever. him or duane thats all im saying

  • They look out of place indoors

  • real allmans here. not the derek trucks orchestra. f.u. derek you yuppy hack. GO DICKY BETTS!!!!!

  • @kurtchrisandchad You are right. Although he is OK on the slide(Derek), he just doesn't move you the way these Guys did(even without Duane) There was a certain chemistry between Warren/Dickey, and Woody(May his soul rest in peace) Long live the SOUTH s greatest, OUTLAWS /TUCKER/ CDB/ SKYNRYD/ etc..

  • @ThePhallystorm thanks and right on!

  • @kurtchrisandchad Fuck off, troll

  • Say what any of you will, but it's Greg who has carried this band since Duane and Redog left it. Now it's O'Teil and Derek that makes it work, but still the B3 and Greg that draws the crowds

  • Looks like Dickey and Warren traded guitars.

  • This is probably the most underrated band in music history. To listen to one of their live shows is a thing of beauty, and second to none !

  • @ekjade Underrated?? You're joking...

  • @ekjade absolutely right!

  • Damn Dave is getting old! Shit we're all getting OLD!

  • nice voice...

  • What kind of Gibson bass is it that Alan was playing there!?

  • @jefferyakathedude I think it's a Gibson Thunderbird you see them occasionallly but they are nowhere near as common as fenders.

  • Fantastic, the Allman Brothers were the best. It seems like this was from the 70s, but I don't think late night Letterman went back that far. Does anyone know the year this show took place?

  • @goldenoldiesPete some point in the late 80's early 90's due to the presence of dickie betts and allan woody

  • @troutbum93 my guess is '95 at the time that CD came out.

  • @twt0914 Thanks for the year.

  • yeeehaa!! nice song allmans!!

  • The best Willie Cobbs cover ever!!!

  • These guys blow me away everytime I see them. What a great band when they were all together. Derek Trucks and Gov't Mule are too much to behold as well.

  • what a tease.

  • love this dude on BASS. hez one ovda best, evah. palyin with the some of the very best brothers on earth, gottza B

  • love this dude on BASS. hez one ovda best, evah.

  • show them fat hippy boys how its done, brother dickey!

  • @putdownan8dude i give them more credit than that. i heard them do Whipping Post last week. It was a volcanic phenomenon, they are true Allman Brothers. Derek is blood family, Betts handpicked Warren. They don't just cover, they carry on the legend. I believe Derek tapped Duane's life force Saturday Night.

But the most credit still goes to the creators, Duane & the composer Dickey Betts. To me, it's more like Kissen playing Brahms. We don't call that covering.

  • Dickey Betts does not get anywhere near the credit as the guitar genius that he was. Without Dickey there would be no Duane Allman;classic synergy. Duane's session work was good, solid. It is easy to criticize across a gulf of 40 years. Duane's work with Boz Scaggs was solid, but there was no indication of what would come next. Live at the Fillmore is still the album for fans of twin lead guitars. Warren and Derek are solid players at covering the work of genius, nothing more.

  • @gsgiles Warren and Derek are "solid players at covering" songs...obviously you havent heard much of them. Try looking up any of dereks work from the crossroads guitar festival and then tell me he is just a solid player

  • @gsgiles agreed, however, Derek Trucks is fantastic, too. Too bad the line-up with Betts and him did not have time to evolve and grow...

  • @gsgiles go listen to gov't mule or the derek trucks band and then say that. believe me i absolutely adore dickey but thats really selling derek and warren short, derek especially

  • I dont think any new band goes on Letterman and tears the stage up like this....This is music kids listen up !!!

  • This was a great lineup. maybe my favorite.

  • U say Justin Bieber-I say Green Day

U say Miley Cyrus-I say Led Zepplin

    U say T-Pain-I say Slipknot

    U say Flowers-I say Metallica

U say Pink-I say Iron Maiden

U say Hip Hop-i say shut the fuck up

    U say Pop-I scream Rock`n Roll !!!

U say hanah montana-i fucking punch you in the face 92% of teenagers have turned to Hip Hop and Pop.If you are part of the 8% that still listen to real music, copy and paste this message to another 5 videos. DON'T LET THE SPIRIT OF ROCK DIE

  • @MrShanester nice post dude! better than ever...

  • i love it, very slick =) i've only heard the 20 minute version up til now

  • great

  • rip allen woody

  • it's kinda sad seeing the brothers do a song in under 4 minutes that used to take them 20 minutes way back with the original lineup.

  • Always a great band... but Dickey Betts is often overlooked in favour of the Duane Allman legacy. As the short solo here and virtually every other solo you'll ever hear Dickie play, he has an immaculate sense of melody (best heard on his own compositions, like Jessica) and (assuming it's him doing the arranging) has a great knack for unison riffing and those tasty bits like what is heard at the end of this clip. Hats off to Warren Haynes, a Duane disciple for his passion in pursuit of the note.

  • IT DOESNT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS.

  • Govt Mule isn't the Allman Brothers sorry.

  • @FMC651 so? why? Oh forget it ... you probably already have figured this out. oops sorry ... I 'spose.

  • What can I say in love one minute and swoosh

  • the power is all in the stache

  • long live dickey betts

  • Well, when this album came out, it was all great. Duane, Gregg, Dickey Betts, and he was then called Butch Trucks. This song was so long it took up the whole side of this double album! Alot of the songs were long, but VERY good! Live at Fillmore rocks!

  • @keaster55

What else has Butch Trucks been called?

To this day, I don't remember him ever being called anything but Butch.

He never used Claude on anything that I know of.

  • @RPOZ51 Me neither! But on the song Statesboro Blues Simbadwashere90 said he was Derek Trucks! I think Sinbad has a bad memory. Simbad was not there!

  • @keaster55

    Ah, okay. I see now.

Derek Trucks is Butch's nephew. Derek has been playing guitar with the band for over ten years now.

Butch is still with the band, and has been since the very beginning.

  • seen em at the gorge may 09' - they still rock. one of the greatest bands to ever live.

  • I don't know who was in teh group when I seen 'em-I think Warren Haynes-I seen 'em in '88 on that shades of two worlds tour but damn-they were cookin then, and I was so happy and priveledged to see them.Gregg sounded so good and my mom even told me that they sounded better cause they were off drugs-LOL

  • I agree, as I saw Duane countless times , But the current lineup is The Best since the original group. I think getting rid of Dickey was the best move that they ever made.

Also at The Wanee Festival,June, 2009, Gregg's voice was strongest its been in years.

When I saw them in Oct 2008, his voice was still weak from his health problems, but last June, it was strong !!!!

  • Greg's voice sounds amazzzzzing in this vid

  • No reason to miss them ! Go out and see them in concert !!! With Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks, this is the best band since the original !!!!

  • @F355Bvc1 -- Trucks and Haynes is as close as you can get to the original, but Gregg isn't as solid as he used to be and without Dickey, Duane, Berry, etc... it's just not the same. that being said, I'll take 80 percent of the ABB over 100 percent of the new shit I hear, but nothing will ever come close to the original ABB lineup.

  • I sure do miss them

  • Damn, Dickey was just starting to cook but he had to cut it short because they were on TV.

  • @Equinas Yeah, so check out the 9 1/2 min. version recorded at Syria Mosque in Pittsburgh, PA 1971. Pretty damned good...

  • Comment removed

  • my mom named my sis after the first thing she heard...luckily jessica was playin on the radio! so her name is jessica dawn and i got the recycled middle name with amber dawn ( golden sunrise) first thing she saw...its a native thing. where r those hippy protesters when we really need them???

  • is not two drummers a little redundant?

  • @snottydyck 3 drummers.

    And no.

  • Love these sounds !!!!! Its a shame that Dickey left...

  • @Mytzek Dickey was good ...but lets not forget Dwayne..........

  • @twt0914 well dude ...i totally agree

  • @twt0914 It's "Duane" :)

  • @Mytzek He was kicked out of the band by Gregg

  • @Mytzek Dickey didn't really "leave" though, did he?

  • @blueballsredhair Thats thing I did not knew....just wonder what made to make decision like that ....

  • @blueballsredhair Thats thing I did not knew....just wonder what made to make decision like that ....well thats Past anyway :)

  • I love the guy that said "HIS IS MUSIC." It really is. While new groups like the DriveBy Truckers and Lucero have some promise, they're missing the foundations of blues and jazz that brought such a fullness and lasting sound to the ABB.

  • Smokin hot version!

  • what does Gregg say at 2:51? I think he calls out "Dickey" . ... so much improvised soul. i miss that brotherhood.

  • @eddiebunker gregg says at 2:51 "I can tell"

  • First time I've ever heard a 3 minute version of You Don't Love Me in my entire life!! Kinda bizzare. Still kicked ass though. Love the ABB!

  • love this song......

    and the guitar solo OMG

  • * * * * *

  • THIS IS MUSIC!!!!!!

  • I love Gregg's vocals here.

  • This performance is outstanding. As good as theirs in '71 @ the Fillmore East.

  • All fans of the allman brothers need to see Gregg solo. it is such a great show. Gregg actually puts a lot more energy into his singing. i think he likes performing solo more nowadays,

  • too far out

  • The Fillmore version is INSANE!!!

  • Singing about Cher?

  • No. They were doing this long before he met Cher.

  • Immortal band. Spanned many years and generations. My dad and I both love the Allmans.....a true American institution. Thanks ABB! Many good memories listening to your music.

  • hey, anybody go see them in Piedmont Park in Atlanta back in the late 60' ?

  • Was it the time they had to push Greg up the stairs to the platform?

  • I love warren's slide solo!

  • You don't see Paul Shafer and the boys backing them up as is the policy of Letterman! Dickey wouldn't have any of that!

  • what are you talking about? they only back bands up if they need a band to back them. like a pop artist or something. you dont know what the hell you are talking about.

  • actually I do, know what i am talking about it is lettermans policy, watch interviews with bands who have played for the letterman show, they are the one who have said it. It may not be policy now, but it was when he was on the other network, just watch all the bands that used to be on his show you will see, look at about thirty of them you will understand. It's not intended to be mean, just a fact.

  • why the hostility??? Chill out and enjoy the music

  • ALLEN WOODY the best bass player ever ...R.I.P. Woody

  • Awesome stuff...I just wish it was longer. I saw these guys live 4 years ago in Cleveland and I hope I have the opportunity to do it again someday. Just a great, great band

  • what year was this??

  • 1996. you have google for that ;-)

  • RIP allen

  • excellent stuff.... they like their Gibsons, too....

  • ABSOLUTELY FUCKING AWESOME

  • Thank you! - This band i very good.

  • It's all based out of the Am scale. chords are the I-IV-V in the scale or the Am-Dm-Em. The riff you hear is out of the first box in that Am pentatonic scale. You can Google any of this info I posted for more reference.

  • anyone know how to play that rhythm guitar? notes?

  • I agree THE BEST live band ever!!!!!

And Dickey does drive the band like no other!!!!!

  • wow,what a band.

    Simply awesome.

  • absolutely a smokin' tune, Warren's slide is great. Dickey drives the band and Greg nails it with his griity vocals. The Allman Brothers had the ability to take relatively little known blues tunes and make them their own. I first heard this band in 1971 and the sound is still in my head to this day. The best live band ever!!!

  • Thanks for sharing this great song!

  • what year was this?

  • Allmans are as good right now as it will get. Duayne left such a void. I mean you have artists playing cover songs to perfection

these days. There isn't anybody that can come

close to copying Duayne's slide play. Warren

is a great musician in his own right, along with Derrick Trucks.

  • Check Butch out....Fuckin' solid! Love The ABB!

  • I love it. No glitz. Just music. These guys ROCK! Lotta converts that night.

  • dave didnt realize how lucky he was

  • this has a kind of latin rhythm, cool, in combination with this blues tune.

  • you better be on your merry way!!

  • I miss Alan Woody!

  • yeah besides Barry he was the best, boy he cooked RIP

  • Betts and Haynes are as good as either

  • no man.. Duane was a lot better. Betts and Haynes are good, but not as good as Duane.

  • The only thing that sucks is you don't get to hear Soul Serenade and Joy to the World

  • seriously? they "suck"? are you kidding me? i'm thinking that you are just looking for attention on the internet because you are either a closet homosexual or your life just sucks in general. yes, duane was a beast and maybe the best of all time, but this is a quality recording. why did you type in this song and listen to the whole thing if you think they "suck"??? get a life and learn to appreciate good music.

  • I enjoy this version of the Allman Brothers.

  • I love You dont love me :D

  • betts is so good man..

  • Tank you! Very nice Blues!

  • Your scary.

  • yeah, man woody r.i.p is and was a great bass player.

  • watching this reminds me what a loss it was when Allen Woody passed, Man he was good.

  • Stonesfan knows what hes talkin about in regard to Warren Haynes. I've had the opportunity to meet Warren Haynes twice and I've met Greg Allman 3 times now. They're both great guys. Couldn't be nicer. Butch Trucks is the best of the bunch though. Hes more than willing to talk to you and hes a hell of a nice guy. Not to mention one of my favorite drummers of all time. Hes the reason why I got started.

  • Can't stand Paul Schaffer always trying to get into the act. Just jealous of Gregg

  • grandeeeeeeeeee Allman Brothers Band

  • Thats what I found also after meeting him aftershow at he Beacon NY in 94 or 95. Nicest person you can meet, took time to leave his friends and talk to a stranger (me ) for 10 minutes. Also, an acquaintance of mine knows him well and has loaned original '59 LP Burst's to use on occasion (lots more to this story that will come out soon-I'm not talkin') and he can well verify this. Warren is a monsterously talented and good person. That is all.

  • "Live at the Fillmore East"-I was an AM radio kid until I heard that one-Wow...

  • Those of you who trash Warren Haynes are clueless. He is not ONLY a hell of a guitar player, he's a hell of a nice guy. I've had the pleasure of meeting him a couple times ( once @ a tiny, defunct bar in Cambridge, Ma. ) and he has always been a gentleman to me, and other friends who've met him on other occasions. NO EGO or star trip. Salt of the earth. The busiest guitarist on the planet.

  • Anyone know when this was?

  • I can't seem to find an exact date for this, but based on the 'Second Set' reference, I'm guessing it was mid-May 1995 during their Radio City run of shows in NYC.

  • dickey rocks so did woody

  • i miss duane :(

  • People, get your band members straight for god's sake.

  • Warren is better-half teh time Duane was messed up on speed and oplayed sloppy.I seen them with Duane and without -they kick ass without him.

  • yhea

  • shit that was groovy as fuck

  • butch aint even dereks dad he is dereks uncle

  • but derek Looks so much like Duane,it's scary

  • Derek????

  • Derek Trucks, the guitarist in Allman brothers.

  • Love Gary Moore version . . .

  • "Both his dad Butch and Duane, looking down from heaven, have to be proud of him."

    Butch isnt dead...

  • I was lucky enough(old as shit enough now) to have seen Duane four times. Warren's fine, but if you want to compare somebody to Duane, it aint Warren. The closest I've seen to Duane recently in terms of pure genius is Derek Trucks. Both his dad Butch and Duane, looking down from heaven, have to be proud of him. Check him out if you haven't already. Incredible. The first time I saw him reminded me of how awed I was seeing SRV for the first time, in a dive, for $1.

  • first off butch isnt dereks' dad, numbnuts, second butch still plays with the allmans, and hes living. tell some more lies

  • Sorry, I was misinformed by someone who should know better that Butch is Derek's dad. My brother, who lives in Jacksonville and saw Derek play at 13, straightened me out on that after I posted the comment. Second, numbnuts, I wasnt saying Butch is dead, was referring to Duane looking down from heaven. And yes, I know he still plays with ABB, having seen them live in Memphis in May. Last, I was mistaken, not lying, about Butch being his father, so go fuck yourself.

  • Both his dad Butch and Duane, looking down from heaven, have to be proud of him.

that indicates you thought both were "looking down from heaven" for someone who knows the abb you sure lack for correct info. dickey still rocks the slide for the abb huh? fucking idiot

  • O.K. O.K. already, I know exactly what I'm talking about. I don't get the same feeling listening to, the perfection of Warren. I never got to see Duane, I'm only 41, but, I have been an audiophile for almost that long, (D.J. for 20+ of those years), and I get still get goose flesh when I hear Duane.

3 members left, at least their doing better than that shell of itself, Skynyrd. If Warren rocks your boat, more power to ya, even though, I still think they should change the name. R.I.P. Duane

  • this band kills. and always will.

  • The Brothers RULE!!!!!

  • I don't know how any one can like the Allmans and knock Warren. Duane was one of a kind no doubt, but man Warren has done some killer work with Mule.

  • Do any of y'all know what it's like to be a professional musician? If not, it's like joining a Fraternity, a brotherhood. Nobody knocks nobody because the person you might knock might be the person who gives you the "Big Break". A big name artist is always looking for a smaller name to back them up. Largely for financial reasons. Sometimes the small artists are better than the big ones, and they become a sensation overnight. That's what happened with Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top, Cactus, and others.

  • well that depends on if the focus iss money or music, take guns n roses they publicly knocked iron maiden when they weren't even famous yet

  • this is awesome,great song,,,great performance.

  • no comparison to duane

  • i wouldn't say that. i love duane as much as the next guy, but i think warren iss about every good of a player as duane was.
