i honestly think these old themes are better than actual records being played on the radio...these junks be gettin stuck in my head.."hangin in a chow line!!!" <<<dave chappelle show..(didnt know what she said untill he said it..lol)
My favorite part of watching "Good Time" was the opening and closing themes and those ariel shots of Chicago in the '70s. Really never cared for the show that much.
Yep, "hand me down" because everyone that doesn'r live in the projects lives in a brand new home and is supported by the tax payers. Poor poor project dwellers having to buy those "hand me down" apartments.
This show always made me sad seeing how they struggled. As a little white kid living on a farm, I guess the whole way of life just didn't connect with me but I remember it making me sad. Even so, the cast was terrific.
@Arthena089 LOL... I know. A catchy tune, but a lot of people didn't really realize what they were singing about until you brought it to their attention.
@Arthena089 They're saying all the bad things....then saying "Ain't we lucky we got 'em?" Good Times....the good times help you through all the bad stuff.
God how I hated this show! A bunch of high strung ugly people in a stinkin Cabrini Green Housing project making cheap jokes and calling each other "Jive Turkeys" There was nothing "good" about those "times" "Ain't we lucky we got em"??? No,I don't think so.
Florida Evans was as ugly as sin. It';s a miracle James didn't skip town with Willona.
@Clonetrooper1139 Yes, the Cabrini-Green housing projects were considered some of the most dangerous public housing in the U.S. They had been controlled by street gangs for several decades and was extremely run down, even by projects standards. The violence in the projects made them infamous. The eviction process took several years but they were finally demolished.
Michael Evans who played Lionel on the Jeffersons was the co-creator of Good Times. That's how Ralph Carter who played Michael Evans on Good Times got his character name.
Even though I`m white, I always found the black sitcoms to be much more realistic than white shows like the Brady bunch and eight is enough.. I grew up in a Black neighborhood in Queens NY In the 1970`s and most of my childhood freinds were black.. Back in those days most Black people had it so hard
@militantx0660 All through the 70's I thought she said "Hanging in a chowline". The girl singing needed practice on her pronunciation. I'll bet she landed up in a "jobline" after this fiasco of a theme song .

Wondering what TV family was the poorest of all time? The Evans family of "Good Times" or the Ingalls family of "Little House on the Prarie?" At least the Ingalls had their own house and land. The Evans family lived in the filthy projects of Chicago and NEVER "moved on up" as the Jeffersons did.
@SkillzZ4ya No thanks - not really into big, dirty, urban garbage pits (Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Oakland). I will say the same to you - c'mon over and see if how far into the my city limits YOU make it. Say "hey" to JJ for me!
I don't think hanging in a chow line makes more sense. It requires a bit of license and suggests somebody who is destitute or a vagrant, which obviously would not be a good time. Hangin' and a-jivin' makes sense and fits perfectly well, but it's not clear from listening.
@bps3013 yes bt i listend over and over and try to make them say hanging and a jiving bt all i hear is hanging in a chow line!!! which makes more sense if u think about it since they scratching and surviving it would make sense to be hanging in a chow (food) line for food...lol..bt oh well its not like this question will be on jeopardy!!!

@BlankSpaceHere You're right, that line makes more sense than "Hanging in a Chow line", when comparing it to the premise of the show. Also, I don't think anybody reminisces about the "Good Times" they spent "Hangin in a Chow line". I think Dave Chappelle should of thought about and researched it a little more.
