Because the gearbox is only forvard neutral and reverse, you don't have like 1st 2nd 3rd.
Because the "transmission" is not gears, but belts on sprokets that can move, like on a snowmobile, so you just put it in first, let go the clutch, and then you can change between fast and slow while driving.
Cough Cough, smokie hehe. Thats a nice RER you got there. These John Deere RER's are better then the Murray RER's. I used to have a Murray RER with a 8HP L-head B&S with a 30" deck. What is nice about RER's is you can get closer to objects in front of you because the engine is in the back and they are quite manuverable. The only thing bad about them is they are slow moving and don't cover a lot of acerage due to deck sise. Kawasaki, strong engine, hydraulics smooth operation!
niceeeee, how old is it, sounds awesome for a rear engine riding mower. sweet ride man, does it mow good.
