its not a professor or teacher's job to express their opinions. their job is to teach and let students formulate their own opinions based on facts. this is disgraceful and i saw it all the time when i was in high school and in college.
Funny thing is, most of the idiots in the 1960s were just as incoherent and ridiculous as these morons. However, you'd have to give the 60s morons credit. They were at least original in their actions. These fools want to relive something they weren't a part of.
Shut it down like '68? Why are liberals so enamored with the 1960s? Most of these idiots were born in the late 80's and have about as much of a connection to the 1960s as their parents! You'd have to be almost 60 years old to have any idea what it was like in the 60s! Stupid! About the age of their whacked out professors trying to create the next generation of brain washed liberals. Maybe it's good if these people don't reproduce.
i was here. we blocked the intersection for atleast 30 minutes. one of the cars at the intersection was hella mad because he was late to the airport. traffic was backed up for miles
Democracy on the thin line of anarchy. Here is the thing, whatever the average shithead conservative or liberal tells you may all be bullshit. The U.S. is strong because of foreign investments and treaties that gives us all the benefits. If u add that up, then conclude the consequences of the government's actions. Everyone will start to see that as Free Trade is reversed and our investments shrink.
you must not be very politically aware of wat goes on in peoples mind who are willing to stand up for wat is right!. and if you think their doing just for the mexican race, then you people are wrong, we not only stand up for our race but for the all the races and people who stand up for us too., so stop being so ignorant and open you mind!
Assignments should not be protests. Blocking traffic is illegal. They should do that stuff on their own time. That prof should not be endangering his students. I'm sure thats not what those kids parents are spending their for.
BTW RANDOM! Is that in front of Stonestown? Wow I never knew that was Highway 1. ROFL.
The traffic there is usually shitty bad.... like right after school after I eat my panda express on Wednesdays... and if they blocked traffic at that point, every minute there is literally a minute backup
Why is this professor forcing his students to walk out and protest politics? It's not only unprofessional on his part, but it's also an excuse for him and all the other professors to make more money so they can stay in their gated communities in their 10,000 sq. foot homes and drink their $500 bottles of wine and eat cheese that not many people can afford to buy on a regular basis.
Organizers did NOT give orders to stop traffic on 19th Ave. Organizers were actually trying to get the people off the street and on muni to join the big protest @ Dolores Park.
Of course, some will tell me, "But they need incentive to apply at such-and-such college", and that is true, BUT that should not justify having to give them such incredibly high pay. Professors are upper middle class just for being primarily teachers, while teachers before that, who have pretty hard jobs too and are crucial to kids getting into college or not in the first place, make way less. What's the incentive to teach k-12? Certainly not good pay, that's for sure.
There was an article in my student newspaper (and recurring ones) about how we're ranked among hte lowest in professor pay, and that's supposedly a "bad thing." This, written by students in a student newspaper! Why the fuck do the students want to continue justifying excessive pay for profs.? I sure hope it's just b/c they're afraid of professors leaving if they find a better salary deal elsewhere than actually feeling sorry for professors here "not making as much as their friends at U. of Il
Until regular teacher pay is risen to a proper level, we should have a moratorium on any professor pay raises and perhaps lower them to make professors more devoted to their primary mission, teaching, rather than excessively using their job as just a tool to do tons of research and write books and have a gay old time doing it.
Not to mention professors are grossly overpaid. I mean, if you get into the college education process, you could get upwards of 100k a year! Whereas K-12 teachers, who are grossly underpaid, make on average about 30 grand. So the professor makes 3 times as much! Does anyone see something wrong with this? Sure, the professor teaches advanced classes and has a lot to do, and many professors in certain fields give back with a lot of research and findings, but still... Does that justify greed?
these "diversity advocates" probably are white-hating leftists who want to make the campuses SO diverse, they'll have so many other minorities that they won't actually have to hang around white people. They can just self-segregate. I mean, if you grew up in an all-black area, went to black schools, etc., why the fuck do you think it's appropriate in COLLEGE, mind you, to try to make it reflect your area? Doesn't that beat the purpose of diversity and critical thinking in college?
These people are the kind of arrogant liberals that make true liberals like myself look bad. They act like they're better than everyone who doesn't agree with them and act like we're not smart enough to run our lives on our own, so they have to run things for us. Somehow, in their "infinite wisdom", they "know" we're not "diverse enough", and the rest of us are just too stupid to see it. Diversity Summit? Kiss my fuckin ass. Get over it. Integrate and mingle with white people for a change.
This is how the ultraliberal diversity crowd works: they claim "this place isn't diverse enough!" based on skin color alone, not background or personal history, and then they make it out to be a racist institution, or make it seem like everyone else is racist for not "supporting diversity." I know! That's how I feel all the time hearing the word "diversity" so fucking much on campus by student groups, the chancellor and so many others. Now they wanna implement some idiotic diversity class!!
And why do campuses have to be so excessively diverse, as some would want it? Isn't just a good amount of diversity fair enough? Of course, the most liberal of 'diversity' advocates will say something along the lines of, "Well, you'll work with people of other races all your life after college, so you have to be ready." But I AM ready! I didn't go to exactly an "all-white" school. It was suburban St. Louis, and I had plenty of minority classmates and friends.
the whole invention of TAs seems to be 'passing the buck', so to speak. Not to say TAs are uneducated, but to have it so prevalent in big universities like my own seems to be a result of major instructor laziness. Hell, in my accounting class, I never even saw the professor in the auditorium where we took the tests!! wtf? they can't be bothered to show up for the test? It just seems really weird, if you ask me. Do European institutions do the same thing?
The whole tenure thing is crap anyway. Seems like a good excuse to be lax on teaching while using a lot of free time to do more and more research. I mean, wtf is this TA bullshit? The professor can't just take some free time his or herself to grade papers and other such things? I mean, it's not like professors have to grade a lot of assignments. I'm in college, and I know most classes have either a lot of small homework or very few big homeworks and a lot of quizzes and few tests.
I'm sick of big college campuses like my own being full of ultraliberal sentiment but not much regular liberal or moderate sentiment, at the very least. Professors vote for liberal Dems and support leftist causes overwhelmingly. And they have this uppity intellectual attitude where I've noticed a real pattern. They make documentaries, journal articles, books, etc., some of which may be not necessary at all, espousing how "smart" they are at some new "big discovery." like "wwe causes sexism
I mean, it's not like there's a White Studies Department spreading anti-minority propaganda that has to be countered by other ethnic studies courses. What is the real point of it? It seems to me like it's just playing on more of the same old white guilt bs and making us hate America for some bad things in its history against other races. I mean, my campus is pretty diverse, but there are people who act like it's racist and "not diverse enough." HA! fucking nonsense.
Were the cuts and fees really enough to warrant a protest? I highly doubt it. I think these leftists just don't have a spine, or even a single bone there. It's probably just collagen or cartilage for them. "Oh no! I gotta pay $50 more for my education?? I'm gonna die! They cut one of my classes? I'm not gonna get my degree!!!! I"ll fail!"
Multiculturalism is ok, to an extent, but taking it so far as to establish "ethnic studies" departments is just absurd. It's nothing but an ultraliberal excuse to incite antiEuropean and antiwhite sentiment among lower and middle class minorities who feel they have been discriminated against or the victim of "institutional racism." It's totall not necessary for an education. All this emphasis on diversity based simply on skin color is excessive. What about background diversity?? Huh?
For me, the sugar on top in this video is this: that Asian guy on stage in the clip...I know him. He's in one of my classes. A devout leftist who gets angry when people disagree with him. Shame.
another example of SF State's college republicans pulling their brownshirt tactics: trying to implicate a professor as being some type of "radical" (or in this case supporting floating fists)
the walkout looks energetic and exciting - despite the intentions of the college republicans (who seemed to find it important enough to edit this video almost immediately after the walkout) who'd like to portray this negatively
first of all - why is it that being radical is a bad thing? isn't college all about hearing perspectives you may not otherwise hear in the mainstream discourse?
second of all, i come from the ethnic studies department where people are supposed to be as radical as they come, and i can tell you from first hand experience that it's not what you may think.
on the other hand: who are you to say what is or is not acceptable for professors to believe? sounds a bit totalitarian to me
actually, i made two other parts in my post. feel free to read them.
i know that your intellectual laziness may inhibit your ability to go back and read, so I'll quickly repeat:
The republicans use brownshirt tactics (e.g. labeling professors who speak out on controversial issues as "communists" and "leftists") and are a radical activist group on campus at SF State (albeit in a reactionary way - supporting such crimes against humanity as the wars in the middle east and terrorizing immigrants)
Don't insult my intelligence you filthy cunted feminist.
Terrorizing immigrants? Their killing the US economy...I am sorry we are fucking up their country...But their not entitled to medical or amnesty. My dad is from Turkey...HE CAME HERE LEGALLY.
As for the war...It sucks. But war goes on, it makes the wheel turn. Your typing on a computer made from petroleum, and other elements mined from slave labor. I don't like the patriot act.
Propaganda exists on both ends. My alliance is to liberty...and these hippies are not in favor of liberty. Protesting the marine recruiters(wrong or right) is not going to solve anything...But you have no right to prevent someone else from living out their liberty.
Thats bull shit. Those kids are wimps. What ever happened to stay until we are heard. No one does that anymore and its sad. What the hell is going on these days. Our freedom is being taken and we are afraid to get in trouble! NO MORE! thats what I say. If you get arrested then you have made a brake through and have a chance to change things! It just takes one in the end. To other help or divide us in the end. Thats just sad.
hey social darwinism, if school is too much get scholarships, if your not smart enough to get scholarships you shouldn't be entitled to an education. We need a bigger blue collar class and I don't mean opening up the floodgates to illegal immigrants.
Fuckin students. Just suck it up. They probably cut stupid classes that aren't even necessary to be a good, productive citizen after you graduate, like ethnic studies bs. "No cuts, no fees"? Lol! So they want a totally free ride from the taxpayers while people all over the nation in other universities and probably many in SF State are fine paying their way and taking out loans for a little extra help.
If I couldn't get arrested for doing it, I'd just drive right through the students and run some over, making the leftists hopefully less of a nuisance.
So... students in some advanced Spanish class walked out with a professor to protest in Spanish simply b/c that was the class they were in? And not because they were descendants of illegal immigrants or had "hispanic pride" or whatever? I mean, that at least would make more sense.
Lastly, wtf was the point of blocking traffic?? Isn't their protest towards the leaders of the university? what the hell good does it do to block PUBLIC traffic outside the campus? Do those other people really give a shit?
I'm very liberal, actually more of a social libertarian (economic liberal), but these people are nutjobs. How do you stay sane?
Do these walkouts happen a lot at SF State?? These people need to go to class and quit bailing. There's a time for education and a time to protest. Someone had a sign saying "save ethnic studies." I say, fuck this "ethnic studies" category. It's just a new ultraliberal creation, not really having much to do with empirical data or stuff that's been natural for centuries.
Btw, if SF State is so crazy, why did you apply? Did they have scholarships or something for you?
I mean, what good do these Ethnic Studies professors do for the community at large?? What good does all this 'research' and writing do? And fuck the people with that idiotic "free mumia" sign. Fuck EM!!! You people need to get a life instead of wasting time trying to "free Mumia" because he'll never be "freed", because if you hadn't noticed, he MURDERED a cop!!! He's not a revolutionary or some mastermind of philosophy. He's just a race-baiting black douchebag who leftists LOVE, like che.
Lol. Someone made a sign saying "We want education, but we get nothing." Ook... How are they not getting education? It justs costs a little more now! Jesus christ, do these idiots not know simple economics or money? If the school raises fees, that means they take in MORE money, which makes it EASIER to provide education. Who's not giving them education? They'd get an education if they just stayed in class!
Education should be free? We all learn at a certain point in our life that NOTHING is free.

So... students in some advanced Spanish class walked out with a professor to protest in Spanish simply b/c that was the class they were in?

How bad are the budget cuts and fee hikes exactly?
