This speech is so powerful. I love Maya Angelou doing it. I must respectfully take issue with the presentation of the American flag, though maybe even Sojourna would have wanted it that way. Do we see that and understand it was the policies of that flag that put this amazing woman into so much hardship, really, if 10 of us had lived a life with half as much stress wouldn't 5 or 6 be dead? I am angry at that flag. Not enough has changed.

@bomsheeta: so what does her marrying a white man have to do w/ narrators experience in the poem? and what does maya marrying a white man have to do w/ her being a strong black woman? seems to be that maya found love w/ man who she felt treated her right and loved her and aint that what we all want? maybe she isnt hung up on the race of man but is more into the man. and isnt that what we all want, race transcendence, to be loved for the content our characters? maybe she found a man who can?
