I feel like Microsoft tried to get rid of Java with this, think. They both use a virtual machine, vb tried to be OOP, but failed. Also, they tried making things easier to code, but it greatly reduces speed. Java is awsome! Vb sucks!

i always thought visual basic was for beginners and i never thought of learning it and only cared about c#, java, c++ and some python, but i was surprised on how many job offers are asking for a VB developer.. :(.

Great tutorials. A word of caution: do not start with VB as your first programming language. It will scar you for life. Its not particularly hard, but try something like java instead.

@Yuoruddo No, visual basic is BASIC with an IDE and more libraries. If you dont know what BASIC is its a pretty old language bill gates created back in the day. old but simple and functional. and visual basic helped it survive...i did a biography sooo ya

@nivrichter Actually you should-if you'd like to-checkout the Robert Half Technology website and Dice.com. There is a strong need for VB. Heck, I saw a job posting for COBOL about two weeks ago and that's been around a considerably longer time than VB. The needs of a company vary regardless of how obsolete a program may seem.

Is the .NET framework mean that VB, C++ (When made in Visual Studio) and C# are interpreted rather than compiled? As programs made for the .NET framework can be turned back into source code easily, whereas normal programs can only be disassembled?

I don't really like how he keeps complaining about Java when GUI design is really nothing more but an IDE question. Ever heard of Netbeans? If you don't want to type all the GUI code yourself, use that.
