  • God I love being British

  • What is the tradition behind the commanding officer doing eyes left and saluting when leaving the Palace? Another thing, what commands are given when starting the march? Or, what is the difference between "By the Right, By the Left or sometimes By the Center?

  • @tram90

The officer is acknowledging the salute being given by the Old Guard.

By the Right/Left/Centre means to take their dressing from whichever side. So if it's By the Right and the right hand man slows down, everyone slows down.

  • shot on my birthday

  • @TheMaxImp I'm guessing it's the regimental slow march of the Princess of Wales

Royal Regiment --The Minden Rose. But I'm having great difficulty in finding an example online to confirm.

  • Which march are played at slow time by the Band of the Irish Guards?

    Thanks for help.

  • Sergeant Major from the Scots Guards?

    Weird...

  • @emptyangel The Sergeant Major you are Referring to is a Guards Drill Sergeant. All Line Regiments that are on Public Duties in London have a Guards Regiment Drill Sergeant attached to them for the Duration of Public Duties. They are after all the Subject Matter experts when it comes to Drill.
