Wouldn't 'soap suds' be coming dangerously close to the line when describing something that foams? The suds are the foam. Soap I can see no problem with, but soap suds together I thought would be buzzed by the harsher judges.
Actually, if the clue clearly doesn't fit the category, it's technically an illegal clue.
For instance, to borrow an example from another clip, if the category is "things that strike" you couldn't say "bowling over all ten pins". While it is called a "strike" in terms of bowling, it is an action and not itself a thing that strikes.
There are certainly gray areas like the whole chimpanzee thing, but giving a clue like the above would definitely get you buzzed if the judges weren't asleep.
I liked the part where the contestant (I don't know what her name was), when Dick asked her what she was going to do with the money, said that she couldn't wait to kiss her husband. Nipsey then said, "He didn't help you win!!"
Since this is something that I don't think I've ever seen, would "Davy Jones" or "Mike Nesmith" have been acceptable clues for the monkey category? With the difference in spelling betweeen monkeys and Monkees.
wait pyramid was a show before donny osmond? wait where the heck did that show go? was it changed to deal or no deal or identity? both are kinda old after a while. bring pyramid back. also bring millionaire back on a nighttime schedule. get merideth off the morning time slot.
This was on the fifth week of shows on The $25,000 Pyramid, note the blue winner's circle trilons and the word "New" hasn't been added to the show's title yet.
This was from the first week of shows from the 1982-1988 version that featured the new "ding" sound as opposed to the softer sounding one heard in the first 4 weeks of this version, as well as in the 1970's incarnations.
Someone should send that to Speaker John Boehner!

LOL! I don't know who was more excited about the big win. The contestant, or Nipsey! Love the reaction!

"Members of the Monkey Family" seems awfully easy for the $250 subject

"Chimpanzees, orangutans, apes, gorillas" It's ironic that NONE of those things are monkeys. Nipsey is more monkey than those clues.

Just to be anal, he should have been buzzed on "Members of the Monkey Family" for the clue "Chimpanzee." Chimpanzees aren't monkeys.

The rules don't disallow poor clues, just ones that use words from the answer.

Of course they aren't. They're in the monkey family though. Hence, the category...

I used to watch this all the time when I was little.

Probably the best celebrity reaction to a win on a game show ever! Nipsey was one in a million.
ericandy88 2 years ago 8
I was watching an old episode of "Password Plus" on GSN recently, and Nipsey used the same rhyme in that show! Must've been one of his favorites.

Isn't soap suds foam? It's "Things that Foam." Soap suds decribe foam, not what COMES with foam.

That second subject would probably sound better today if it were something along the lines of "Things on Maury Povich." LOL!

It seriously would, I don't know if I would have said Soap Opera

Was that Nipsey's only $25,000 win?

These old "Pyramid" clips are great!!! I loved watching this while growing up! But, damn, you'd think that Nipsey won by his reaction!
talktalk2 3 years ago
That's why I used to LOVE it when he got to the Winner's Circle. He raised more hell than the contestants did when they won!
PatrioticPirate 2 years ago
That was so true! I loved watching Nipsey do this thing!

Him and Vicky Lawrence... and Betty White. They were the tops on ANY game show. Some great clips of Nipsey on Password too.

Who was the other clebity that week along with Nipsey?

To answer your question, nextbarker of who the other celebrity was with Nipsey, it was Audrey Landers.

That has got to be one of the most inspiring proverbs/rhymes I have ever heard.

I saw it in a 2005 People magazine shortly after he passed. Classic.

And honestly, that rhyme still holds relevance today, especially in this age of big government bailouts and Detroit shutdowns.

I usta LOVE Nipsey Russell when his contestants won- he used to raise more hell than THEY did!

Thats what made the show when he was on. He was so excited for the contestants just like they were excited for themselves.

And the categories are considerably more accessible. Nothing esoteric like "Things you contemplate."
tuttlemsm 3 years ago 2
I strongly agree. The esoteric WC categories were, I thought, the hardest to get, and, IIRC, led to more illegal clues/DQ's.
bmasters1981 2 years ago
And exactly how would you describe things you contemplate...other than suicide.
