I went to the Mecca and I am not a snob. It was great and so have all the venues that came before(for the real lucky few), and after but Wigan had a place in that(and Wigan Last night was?).Just like places I was FAR to young to ever get into? The TORCH, Wheel etc. My journey began at the Mecca and continues.

Funny you should say about gimmicks : are we talking about Wigans Chosen Few ; or Wigans Footsie !!! Real Northern Soul !!! Nothing to do with Mecca snobbery ; more to do with what Northern Soul was all about - that was Black American Soul - just to remind some of the Wigan Casino crowd . If you want to enjoy your pop music and your retro 60s oldies (that was in 1976 ) - sure no problem enjoy them as an isolated , one off dance scene : but Northern Soul - no I dont think so !!!

3 weeks after the 4th anniversary was the 1st time i went there skived school to hitch it with a mate ended up as i named it my second home great memories for me watching this it's hard to explain to people that didn't go & when they ask what was wigan like one word says it all awsome
