  • Hi, is the a gap inbetween recorded clips

  • @mattd28 Each clip (on/off of the slider) creates a new file. Any single file over 4GB gets split.

  • How do you edit the .mov format?

  • @BayernMunich22 I'm on a MAC so I use Final Cut. The cam comes with software for Windows and MAC that allows for some limited editing but I don't use it.

  • @RC62 yeah, i have a pc so its really difficult to edit that format

  • @BayernMunich22 Check around, you should be able to find a converter. The ContourHD uses H264 (AVC) encoding so you just need to find something that will convert the container from MOV to MP4 or MKV. Search with Google or check on the ContourHD (VHolder) forums on how to convert H264 encoded MOV files. There are probably some cheap or even free tools you can use. Not knowing your machine setup or your skill set it is really hard for me to give good advice on what's best. :D

  • @RC62 alright, thanks for the help

  • @BayernMunich22 Use Power Director 10

  • Picture looks good. Too bad about the wind noise....

Looks like best way, after all, is camcorder w/external mic.

I think the gopro has less wind noise ??

  • The Go-Pro has an equally bad issue with wind noise. There are good and bad aspects of both cameras. It comes down to personal choice. You'll need an external recorder for either. For the Go-Pro HD, they have promised a wireless mic solution. Not certain when it will be available.

  • @RC62: If you want to edit these videos, how do you get them to play well and not to fast in the editing software. After editing, exporting to 30 frs is wanted, so does it all add up or is it a hard and time consuming process to convert the movies to the standard? Thanks, Phil

  • What I've done with the 60fps videos is record at 60 fps, edit at 60 fps, and upload the final video to YouTube at 60 fps. You can record at 60 then output your final video at 30 and if you are using a decent editor it should just adjust everything time-wise and just drop half the frames. It will degrade the video or make it appear choppy.

General rule of thumb is to try not to re-encode or change the resolution or frame rate unless you really have to.

    Just my 2 cents. :^)

  • Oh, and if your final video needs to be 30 fps you should probably record at 30 fps. You can try recording at 60 and outputting to 30 to see how it comes out. it may look good for what you intend.

  • What kind of software do you use on your Mac ? I work on both an Intel iMac dual core with OSX 10.5 and iMovie 9 and I have a Windows 7 computer to with Adobe Premiere Elements 7 on it ... I still prefer the iMac for editing. But I think a better editing solution would be great. Any thoughts on this...

  • I am using a 2 1/2 year old Intel MAC PRO (Dual Xeon Quad cores and 12 GB RAM).

I recently moved up from Final Cut Express 4 to Final Cut Studio. Not that I really need Final Cut Pro or really know how to use it well. Final Cut Express is definitely a step above iMovie and is a nice in-between level editor, not as expensive as Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro...

    What can I say I am a geek. :^)

  • I´m looking for these little rear view mirror, above yours stock one. How is it called? Do you know any website that I can find it?

  • They are "Hercules Auxiliary Wide-Angle Side View Mirror (Small)". They were $14 US each plus $8 for shipping from Amazon.

  • Do you think that it's better record at 60 fps 720p or 30 fps 1080p? I really like these 60 fps videos. I'm just waiting my cam arrive. USA to Brazil. :)

  • As of the last week or so, all of the vids I am posting are shot at 60fps. I think they look nice a crisp even after uploading. That said, I really have not tried uploading any 1080P vids to YouTube. They look great on my computer monitor but they don't catch the motion quite as well as the 60fps vids.

    Take care,

    Rob

  • Hey' that looks great at 60fps, i noticed there was

more detail, like the cracks in the road you can see them really clear. Thanks for the 60fps Test.

    Take care.

  • You're welcome.

Yeah, I noticed the better detail and less motion blur at 60 fps. it came out really well.

    Ride safe,

    Rob

  • I think YT doesnt do the true vid quality any justice. Ive taken all my cam vids and watched on my TV's and it is awsome, including my latest addition the VIO Pov.

  • Absolutely! We are limited by the YouTube re-encoding. Of course the better the quality uploaded the better it will view on YT. :^)

  • yea it was good, does it have an input for a mic?

  • Unfortunately no. It has a built-in mic but wind noise over powers it - as I'm sure you heard. What I do (and Rebelyell91 too) is to use a separate audio recorder with the mic in the helmet and then sync the audio video. There are a few folks taking the cams and bringing the internal mic out of the casing by soldering longer wires to it.
