  • @Alexanderstuve

how true- stand next to a car that's not moving, it's safe. stand next to a bear that's holding still, you will NOT be safe!

  • @johanneandrick

you wouldn't have time to remove shoes, and running would get you chased and eaten probly.

  • video is cool but ... HOW ABOUT 720p DUDE??

  • Have to remember this. I go camping in the Appalachian Mountains a couple times a year. The bears have always run away, but it's probably better to be on the safe side.

  • @corporatehippy Its very obvious that you have never spent time out in the woods. I not saying a local park, im talking 40 miles away from everything. Its just you and the bears. bears attack when spooked or if you antagonize them. been there done that. spooked them at least. Im working on my third can of bear spray in 5 years. they have 400 times the smelling ability of a human. they know your there before you know your there. native alaskan all my life so i know a thing or two about bears.

  • would not taking a bath for a month help in repelling bear attacks?

  • I got bear maced once, two feet away from my face, nothing more powerful.

  • Only reason why bear attacks are even more common then they were decades ago is only because with the rise of population, that us humans are moving into their enviroment. Not to mention with this in mind, the bears are now getting more used to us, getting into our yards, eating our garbage. I mean in really its not their fault. The further we move into their territory, the more attacks will occur.

  • i don't understand why the bear doesn't eat you when you play dead.

  • @Gregorick

they only eat meat they kill

    pretty sure thats the reason

  • @Gregorick Because usually, bears don't attack you because they're hungry. They're not interested in food. They usually attack because they're defending cubs or territory, or you scare them by bursting out on them. In most of those cases, once they think the threat has gone, they'll go too.

  • @Gregorick Because the bear never wanted to eat him, it wanted to kill him because it thought the guy might pose a threat, and if the bear attacks first, it has the upper hand, twas only looking out for itself =P

  • Who goes bow hunting with bears around?

  • hallo

  • Smells like an ad for pepper spray to me. And it sounds like the guy cowered and/or tried to run or find a tree. All wrong. Stand tall and make yourself look bigger with a pack or something. Talk firmly and calmly. Bears may bluff charge, but VERY RARELY follow through with an actual strike. Running and cowering makes you look like prey. Bad idea.

  • @corporatehippy

be careful what you advise, as grizzlies and black bears do things differently from each other. also black bears can come in brown, but if it has a hump at the back of the neck, that's grizzly.

  • That must have been soo terrifying O_O

  • I hear running down hill is the best to avoid because a bears front legs are shorter than the back and they will trip themselves!

  • i have pepper spray in my car

  • well ! RUN FOREST , RUN !

  • a bears mouth and nose is very sensitive 2% is very effective

  • He's lucky to be alive!

  • so glad i live in the UK. the worst thing we have roaming our great outdoors is maybe the odd hedgehog or badger.

actually the greatest chance of a mauling probably comes from pet dogs.

  • He's just lucky he didn't run into that wild Russian hamster!

  • Your very lucky to be alive . This is what I worry about when out hunting Bigfoot . I have only had one Bear encounter while out looking for Bigfoot and that was in Utah . Luck was with me , she turned around and walked off . I've been all over the western U.S and Canada and so far been lucky not to see any . Me and my crew all carry Bear repellant and a 44 mag , where its legal .

  • Dang nature, you scary!

  • Bears, Sharks..I think these are the two scariest type of attacks..Funny thing is i dont have to worry about getting mauled or eaten at the mall..

  • Bear Pepper spray is the ONLY non-lethal means of stopping a bear in it's tracks, getting it to turn tail and run... it seriously screws with their senses. It was extensively tested in Glacier and Yellowstone parks with Black and Grizzly bears and works equally well with both. I'm pretty sure it would work with Mountain Lions as well. My dad worked for the USFS for 26 years in Flathead, at Talley lake and Hungry Horse offices, out in the field nearly every day, and told me about the tests.

  • that pepper spray is enough to arrest 10 thieves/robber at a time

  • dude your awesome for using pepper spray to protect

  • Does it harm the bears? Not that human life isn't important, im just wondering.

  • I would not want to be the guy who has to test bear sprays.

  • ooo bloody face

  • looks like he didnt survive much

  • that's fucked up that guy is lucky to be alive!

  • ATLEAST HE'S OKAY NOW...

  • That would have been so fucking scary...

  • I like the fact that they state that there is "no one rule to follow in a bear encounter". I don't know how many people said I did the wrong thing during my attack at Soda Butte. I played dead with a predatory grizzly bear. The books say fight for your life. I would have if I could have but the bear had me in such a way that it was impossible. I also had bear spray but it was out of reach (behind me)...so it left me with only one option left. Playing dead. Lucky for me, it worked.

  • this guys seems lucky to me

  • Ok, I carry my anti-bear spray, but what happens if I get attacked by a puma. Will the anti-bear spray work on the puma?

  • @CaptCamping you might as well carry an anti-puma spray lol

  • @CaptCamping do you mean cougar?

  • So happy I live in Texas instead of up north with bears.... what does playing dead do? How does that help you in a attack?

  • @94jg makes the bear think your dead and it'll leave you alone then

  • LISTEN,you don't have to sell me on Bear spray.

I lost 3 campers to a grizzly in 1986 and 2 in Algonquin park to a black bear on Opeongo Lake..

I ran into a bear camping when I was 12 and escaped to the RV back in 1976.

I have a holster I carry on my mountian bike and for hiking.

I have another can by the bed because we have home invasions in Canada now and we can't have a pistol.Pistols usually get used by the criminal or the children of the owner and bear spray won't kill you.

  • Then we need a car spray.

  • unfortunately the state of michigan doesnt allow any pepper spray stronger than 2% which i dont think would even stop an attacking butterfly!

  • @persebra Bear spray is approved as it is a pesticide for bears and registered in MI

  • @persebra

Don't ya love it. We can have .357 magnums but a littler pepper spray....no way.

  • @persebra Bear spray with 2% Capsaicin is efffective. It's not the state of Michigan that regulates it... 2% is the maximum US national standard for BEAR spray. It's designed to stop a bear, not harm it. Canada only allows 1%.

Bear sprey works on all mammals in the same way...but it's intended for bears.

  • I don't care if that bear had rockets I would get away from that bear. My ass would be going 45 mph!

  • tie Bells around your ankle. Bears WILL try to avoid you. The bear will hear the bells and go the opposite way. Carry pepper spray or mace. Or When you see one Slowly back away and put a backpack (if you have one) on your head and yell and scream really loud. If all else fails Fall down and cover your neck and head and pray for the best

  • Does that spray work on gang members?

  • One lucky guy. i read about this guy in my book. actually, if i am correct, playing dead is what saved him.

  • @gaozhi2007 His friend sprayed the bear with pepper spray.

  • @BearmanMT I bet he was glad his friend came prepared.

  • @gaozhi2007 Playing dead does no good if the bear is hungry and sees you as food.

  • @blarson12

that's true. it's best to have several friends along, and all of you armed to the teeth with good protections. And DON'T sleep in a tent or in the open! they can even break down flimsy cabin doors, windows, etc (and have done so, also trailer doors) so a really heavy duty cabin, with heavy door and a bar across it, etc, with tiny windows and heavy shutters, is better to sleep in.

  • @gaozhi2007 what else did you read in your book?

  • @gaozhi2007

but i read that grizzlies are unique in that, as playing dead may not stop other bears from continuing to maul. one has to read up and take a lot of good advice before venturing anywhere in possible bear country.....

  • LOL

  • bears try to attack your head first try to cover your head

  • Ah pepper spray, never went without it, though if you're out walking in bear country, best thing to do is every so often yell something like "Hey Bears" is what we did, usually bears will move away before you get to close, if you do this and they still come towards you then it's likely either defending it's territory, or looking for a meal...

  • predator 30002 whould you have the courage to play dead if you saw a bear comming at you

  • use bear spray!!!

  • ya when a bear attacks the best things to do are:shoot your gun, pepper spray or play dead. those are the best things to do when a bear attack happens

  • Boy God Realy Protected You

  • pepper spray or gun? Hmmmm. I'll take one of each thank you.

  • holy...fak!

  • ye, carry pepper spray sounds like a good thing in those areas.

  • Pepper spray works great on kids......at a Juvenile Detention Facility of course....

  • Scarface

  • bear revenge

  • You're actually not suppose to run, that doesn't help. That is instinct, but I guess in that case I'd be scared shitless. If they're charging, use the best you can around you or the Bear spray.

You can curl in a ball to defend your face and what not, but in that case I guesss you would have to fight DX.

  • @Luioomba

If the bear just suddenly charges, then you should STAND STILL!

It is usually a faked charge(which quickly turns into a chase if you stimulate its chase instinct).

If you are to curl up, then protect your neck and stomach.

    Those are the vital spots.

  • I've carried his line of pepper spray. It is a must have in bear habitat. Like any product under pressure it will hold pressure for a limited number of years.

  • That was close.

  • Damn... good idea.

  • nice

  • 0mg

  • yeah thats handy i always think im gonna get attacked by a bear

  • ouch !

  • holy shit ur luck man

  • wow that must have been frightening but its a risk when you are out in the wilderness.

  • cars kill more people than bears...bigger risk being in a city or town

  • @crass770

Cars usually don't INTEND to maul you!

And DUH, cars kill more people than bears!

More people are around cars than bears!

  • @Hjernespreng yes. But theres more cars than bears. Thats why cars are more dangerous. And we are always near a car. But if cars would be replaced with bears. Bears would be more dangerous

  • we need an even number of bears and cars to be safe. then all we would need ot worry about is zombies...

  • @crippinchipz But you can't drive a bear so I would rather have more cars than bears

  • @kdarcy You mean BEERS:)

  • we should start hunting cars

  • @MinNeStrOta1 LOL...dude I agree...I can't stand the constant sound of vehicles where I live...I can't relax my mind with all the cars in the world... I rather kill a car than a bear.

  • @MinNeStrOta1 i can see one outside my house...should i shoot it?? lol

  • @MinNeStrOta1Yeah........ take out those damn fords

  • @Hjernespreng Cars are not...ummm..what's the word I am looking for...alive...they don't intend anything...nor do they kill anything..nor do they anything anything..unless, you're talking about kit...then by all means, both your points are valid.

  • @Hjernespreng if you're around cars, theres more chance of survival. but if you have as bears as there are cars around you. then you're life is over

  • @Hjernespreng You know bears usually don't intent to maul you too, otherwise death tool would be much higher. But it just happens, like it happens with the car. Sometimes even mauling by car is intentional, especially if it's driven by person.

If you distance yourself from bears and cars driven by humans, maulings will decrease drastically.

  • @Hjernespreng so we should scrape cars and all ride bears? then there'd be less deaths right?

  • @Hjernespreng so we should obviously start spraying cars with bear spray when they're about to attack us.

  • @crass770 there is way more cars than bears. And you are around cars more than you are bears. I think that people dieing from falling into volcanoes is on a down low, lets all go build houses at the peaks of volcanoes?
