Just as I would protect the right to marry for anyone of my family and friends, the right to marry is something that should be protected for gays as well. The family who created this video have adopted two boys desperately in need of loving parents.

Those boys probably would have a much harder life right now if it were not for the care and compassion of their fathers. These boys are bright, and healthy now, and are getting a top-notch education, and they will someday be leaders and role models in our community. They are a strong, supportive, loving family of people who might otherwise each be alone or in an orphanage. The boys' adoptive parents shouldn't be discriminated against from getting married just because they are both men.

While certain religions support that gays should not be allowed to marry, the government (will of the majority) should not determine this issue any more than it should adopt any other religious belief that discriminates against a select group of people for no compelling reason. Everyone should be allowed to practice the beliefs of their choosing. I would hate to live in a country like Iran where one certain religion's beliefs and bias are the law and its citizens are forced into hiding.

In California it is illegal to discriminate against someone based upon their sexuality in any other circumstance, including in the workplace, services and housing, so it makes no sense to make a different law with respect to marriage. And I worry, if this measure passes, will discrimination against gays be legalized across the board again someday? Could I be fired or denied basic services solely because I am gay - would Californians vote to support that?

I had the grim opportunity to visit Auschwitz and Birkenau concentration camps in Poland last year, and it was truly moving and sorrowful to see that less than 70 years ago a government, a democratically elected group of people, were allowed to discriminate against smaller, less fortunate groups and ultimately kill off those groups - in the case of gays it is estimated that somewhere between 5 and 15 thousand were killed by the Nazis in the 1940's.

We went through this in Canada 4 years ago with talk that the government was taking over the churches by telling them what to do, that there was going to be a pro-gay agenda in schools, pastors were going to be jailed, etc.
