This man is a master technician, a consummate voice that all but sends shivers down one's spine. I listened to his "Salut, demeure chaste et pure" and the same aria by "Jüssi Björling" and the similarity between them of that one aria is astounding. Having said that, I do believe he [and any singer for that matter] should be judged on his own merit, the colour of his voice, his legatos, scaling the high C's . When we keep on comparing we cast an unfair impression on him and other tenors. Salut!
He certainly is one ofr the best lyric tenors that have come along. I heard both La Boheme and Lucia ti Lammermoor with Netrebko at the Met and he was simply outstanding. I love his voice!!!
wicked!!!i saw him in covent garden in boheme and as im a student i only had money for the cheapest tickets, which actually doesnt have any sight on the stage.and i was amazed by the voice of the rodolfo, not knowing who was singing.i knew his voice from zauberflöte in zurich already and after reading his name on the programme,i was not surprised that is was him.
@libro07 Not fair to ask Villazon to listen to this. Villazon knows his limitations; this is why he has been cashing in whenever or wherever he can. It is the audience's fault for buying into the hype.
@piax00 mh,not directly.he is a very temperamental person,he didnt pay enough attention to his voice.inbetween hard arias he gave interviews (disastrous for a singer) and at some point he didnt let the energy flow, but pressed the voice.amazing voice anyway.but its sad what happened now-but no one asks himself why no person surrounding him slowed him down a little bit.an artist is sometimes too much of a artists to pay enough attention so his own voice.

The role of the Duke requires a bigger voice than Florez's and that is why he stopped singing the role after two performances. Beczala's voice is better suited to the requirements of the role.
wow, very different from his appearance on anna netrebko's CD, where they sang "im chambre separee." he had this fast scream each time he sang (and that i've never heard from any other tenors), but it was much more controlled here. i think i only heard it once here, and i must say he sounds quite more refined. excellent performance!
Because it makes it easier to hold a high note with nothing after it. It's kind of a crutch but it works: your arm raises or goes down as you sing the note to help you pace it and visualize its length.
Piotr is one of the very best. I'm sure we will hear much more about him in the near future. Can't wait for his appearance at the Met with Diana Damrau in "Lucia di Lammermoor"!
Although I still don't like his "sob", his voice is powerful, and controlled, and his running notes on the scale, as mentioned by markeli613, were magnificent. What more can you ask for? (it also doesn't hurt that he looks great)
I saw Piotr sing "Die Zauberflote" at the SF Opera this past October and he was superb. Amazing young talented man. I look forward to hearing much more about him.
Piękny, śmiały głos. Nawet mi nie przeszkadza lekki brak improwizacji i liryzmu. Ciekawi mnie jak by sobie poradził w roli Don Jose. To tutaj mi się bardzo podoba.

La tradizione esegue il finale con il Do4, ma per il canto è bravissimo ed ha una bella voce. Complimenti. E da noi in Italia? Bocelli.....

love the krause toast at the end...why does every tenor do that?
JockamoGoon 3 years ago
Because it makes it easier to hold a high note with nothing after it. It's kind of a crutch but it works: your arm raises or goes down as you sing the note to help you pace it and visualize its length.
turbofreddy 3 years ago
krause definitely didn't need any kind of crutch to sing a relatively easy b natural.... i doubt piotr does either.
JockamoGoon 3 years ago
I didn't say he needed it I said it helps. Even Juan Diego does some movement with one or both his arms when sustaining a final high note.

This is the most promising tenor I have heard in a long time.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
not even CLOSE to the same level, his technique is horibble, im waiting until his voice fails him.

I agree that he's among the best of the current tenors, but not that he's in the same league as Bjorling or Wunderlich.

Majestuoso canto, quizás falte estilo y fraseo italiano, como concepto global bastante completo, a depurar el legato verdiano........

Piotr ranks with the best of the current tenors. He reminds me a bit of Jussi Bjorling or Fritz Wunderlich.
