Pop derived from the word Popular, meaning well liked among the majority. Prince recieved his popstar peak back around 83-87 with purple rain fame. Prince is not been a pop star since the eighties, not that this is a bad thing. Ask any joe on the street who Prince is and they are more likely to associate his name with Purple Rain. Popstar is an insult being that the world is filled with more cheese and ketup people.
