  • I reckon the solution / fix for excessive compulsive metal detecting - is to go out and detect. Always good to get out and "dirt fish" Cheers.

  • love your videos! spoken like a true addict! I watch these in times when the ground is too tough (I live in near Fox lake, IL). Speaking of which, I wanted to ask a veteran of the sport, when is the earliest that the ground thaws around here? Is it in late february or mid march? I cant sit still any longer, just got done making a custom trowel for this year! Good luck on the detecting! I might even see you in the field!

    Thanks!

    Jim

  • @Acoustic1313 ..You can still detect in the woods...Just stick to areas that have lots of leaf cover...Otherwise you may have to wait for March/April thaw..

  • Hey Dave...nice video....congrats on the barber & hand full of wheat's, if we weren't obsessive compulsive, this wouldn't be the such a great hobby, that's why we do what we do.. Look forward to your next hunt !

  • Thanks Crunch...Whether it is a 3 hour hunt with 5 silvers ...Or an 8 hour hunt with

5 wheats...It's still allot of fun...

  • Please go to the library and get a book called urban metal detecting. If anyone would ever gain sucess using his methods it would be you. You are in a rich historical area. Go to your local court house ask to see the building permits then go to places that have construction ongoing and locate a lob & places to detect. If you have no money coming in work anywhere network. The nuetral ground is free wear a reflective vest they rarely question you if you wear one of these they assume you're @work.

  • Thanks.......I have that book and have read it several times...I have also worked on High Rises in Chicago & have vests, hard hat & all the gear...But Contractors in Illinois gaurd thier work sites jealously...And Rightfuly so....Illinois has more than thier share of Lawyers just waiting to sue Anyone..They can not afford to give anyone permission to detect...Insurance in Illinois is outrageous.

  • Hard times calls for hard action we had a dude show up each day for a month he would be there every morning until hired.

As for the vest it was just so people locally would let you alone when metal detecting they will think you are a city employee or some meter reader you could detect nuetralground saving fuel and tolls. In the book the man sometimes would wear a hardhat to keep locals dormant. Sitting at home is the blues go search for work your reward detecting afterward.

    READ THE BOOK AGAIN

  • I've read it a dozen times in the last 15 years...If you Look in my profile you'll see it is one of my 3 favorite books.I read it every year..tho I sometimes carry a bag ful of rusty bolts 2 show the bangers, I will not put on my vest & Hard hat to fool the locals...I'll just deal with them...4 out of 5 construction workers are out of work in my area...It's seasonal .&.Unemployment is extreemly high in January-March....If I show up will I get hired ?...Not if there is no work to show up at LOL

  • Well hush my mouth.... LOL

  • Great video and finds! One of the funniest I have seen on metal detecting. Thanks for making and sharing. I bet you'll be back out before March! You didn't tell your wife you paid $40 for that shovel did you? Looking forward to your next video's even though they may be from last year. HH Jack in Austin

  • LOL....That's what freaks her out....Whether it's a new detector....or a camera Tri-pod....I tell her it cost $40...LOL

Altho I tell her the truth soon after

  • cool vid in fact i like it so much its going into my favotite list.

thanks on the info and for taking us along with you HH & good luck

  • Thanks Kris

  • Hey Dave....Another great video....5 star.....I think it was a chipmunk last time though wasn't it???? Oh well maybe a squirrel. Could be worse, one of the southern relic diggers always has armadillos following him. LOL Another shovel, already!!?? OOPS!! Looking forward to those extra videos soon....HH

  • It followed me...Stopped & barked by a tree LOL...Then climbed it...Luckily my shovel was under warranty.

  • Hey Dave, better get down to the Army-Navy store and get an entrenching tool. Solid steel, collapsable, and guaranteed not to break! I enjoyed the video, On-On and hoping spring comes early this year!

  • Actualy took the shovel back...It has a 5 year warranty...He He He

  • I've got less than $2000 spent on metal detecting equipment. My buddy has more than $15000 spent on fishing gear...to include a Lake Erie fishing boat...and not counting his annual week long fishing trip to Canada. Right now silver is $16 dollars per ounce (down from $18). How much is a fish worth? My buddy has no chance of recouping his investment. I do. Methinks he's a lot more crazier and obsessive compulsive tha good ole me. hee-hee. Excellent video, Dave. Very nice finds!

  • Your right Dan...When there was no limit on Lake Michigan Perch...I was Fishing 3-4 days a week...And had 2 big fish fries every summer & a freezer full...To off set the costs....I feel I must make every effort to recoupe my Detecting investment...As well....I am just about even now.....One rare coin will put me over the top...Thanks Dan
