You probably have to pay for an expensive development kit or something.

The way of the future is open source. Where the value of software licenses themselves becomes zero.

Instead, money is made for services like special features, consultation, and tech support. (Red Hat, Novell, IBM, etc are companies that do this).

You can also consider dual-licensing your software. Like what Trolltech does: Open Source or Commercial license.

This is dangerous, we can not let a chip decide which software may or may not run on our operating systems. Imagine you have to apply to get 90% of your free software whitelisted - to have to install a DRM software in order to play your music because your freeware player isn't on the "trusted" list; Imagine every software vendor having to go through an expensive approval process in order to release new software. This would quickly generate an anti-innovation monoculture with little choice.
