Do not have a victim mentality. Check out clubs which show you how to get/store food using coupons - free, join like minded groups, they are everywhere now, do odd jobs to bring in cash, use freecycle org to acumulate needs and give away what you don't. Live in the solution - NOT the problem.

@icewalker23 If you have a sharp $40.00 knife, three ways to create a fire, a tarp, three days of food and water, clothes for the season plus a long-sleeved button up shirt and sturdy denim jacket, good boots, and a backpack to carry the other things you'll pick up as you can makes for a good start. There a ton of websites out there that can help you get started with the very basics and there might even be a few good hearted folks who will give you some of the basic gear you'll need.

@icewalker23 Anyone can prep, you just do it at your own pace even if it means buying one extra can of food a pay period, something is better than nothing. prepping also means increasing your knowledge of self sufficiency and I am under the assumption you have access to an internet connection for FREE research on this topic so might as well use it. If you give in to despair you've already lost and will wither away like the rest of the world as we know it.

BUT you must have pre-radiated food and water which means a large amount of essential supplies.i.e. do you have bottles of Potassium Iodide?EVERYONE should. @w0tm Having been through earthquakes and riots, I learned my lesson. It costs relatively little to have a stash of food and water and access to basic tools. I'm amazed how few people living in known danger zones do anything to protect themselves, even if only for a few days. Also, maintain a reserve of any prescription meds you need. Things like that will not be available during a crisis.

Buy food, water, a water purifier, guns and ammo.
You will need medical supplies, vitamins and ibuprofen.
Power will be an issue.
No power? No toilet. You need power for water in the city and if you have a well.
When the food and water has run out in the houses and the stores are closed and empty, the people will be in the streets.
You DO NOT want to be one of them.
Guns and Ammo to be more likely to keep your food and water.
