Curiously, the most explicitly English of all rock & roll bands came to record this pleasant "country-like" song, which stands up to nearly everything C&W made in the United States during the late 60's. I don't know, but the Kinks have a self-deprecating way of expressing themselves that makes them endearing and lovable to almost everyone willing to listen to good music.
This was not on the album. It was the B-side of "Waterloo Sunset" in the UK, unreleased in the US. My first encounter with the track was on the budget LP "Golden Hour of The Kinks.
Still definitely worth buying the album. It's not as good as VGPS, but it has two of my favorites "Two Sisters" and "Lazy Old Sun," along with other fantastic songs.
sorry, but I like the black keys version better. Not so nasaly sounding :/

Why aren't their earlier albums available from itunes? This album and Arthur can't be bought there including Face To Face.

Recorded at same time as Something Else or later? Sounds like Muswell Hillbillies era to me.

I like the Black Keys, and they twist this around a little more bluesy, but this is distinctly British glory right here

The kinks sound just goes so well with the lyrics... I think the black keys missed it

The Black keys KILL THIS SONG! Dan's voice outdoes anyones though...he could literally sing the phone book and I'd love it.
