  • now see...most of agreethat the VOLT is way too expensive. What a way to give back to us taxpayers for bailing them out...offer these cars at a reasonable price and GM can take the loss and also be reimbursing us for the bailout. They can make profits elsewhere. The rub is, they dont wanna give up anything...big salaries etc...

  • yep I totally lost all respect for GM when they flew in on their Gulfstreams, demanding that the taxpayer pay for their screwups. Id take a 15 year old Toyota over a new GM vehicle.

  • @robertquentincobb Like all new technologies, these cars are overpriced, comparatively. I did a similar calculation back in 05 on the purchase of my hybrid civic and came up with 10+ years to make back the difference. But it's not anymore of a "scam" than two equal quality pair of shoes - one carrying the Nike brand name and costing twice as much.

  • The price of the Green Car is a SCAM!! They start at 26k to 31k. My 2009 Corolla cost 6k. Now if Gas cost $4-gal, in one year (at 12,000-miles per year) that would be $1,464. So it would take over 14 years i.e; 14 x $1,464 = $20,496,

(Plus the 6k I paid for my corolla). For a total of = $26,496. So an Electric car will TAKE 14 + Years (minis the cost of charging it) to match a Gas car like Corolla.

    KEEP YOUR small GAS CAR!

  • @robertquentincobb Yes, but electric cars using cost is the same as a gas one, if fuel price was 10c/L

  • @robertquentincobb heck yeah!! Im driving a 19 year old toyota that still works perfectly. I bet the Japanese tax payer didnt have to pay for it either.

  • i got a idea lower gas prices ta da

  • This is such Bull! I dont understand how anyone is for GMs NEW electric car! After the destruction of the EV1! And saying it was a failure, GM should be out of the business for there ignorance! I would never buy another vehicle from GM ever again! They deserve to be in the Ground and The headstone should read: "Here lies a Truly Bad Investment"

  • @stillatrucken Im with you, my brother....GM showed us what they were really all about when the times were good. Now, they are in ado or die situation cuz the taxpayers cant keep bailing out these bloated, arrogant corps.

  • This car sucks. Tax payers paying millions so some fuck that makes 100k+ can be a feel good pretentious snob. If people are going to go "green" and not the tax payer green then they need to make the prices competitive and that is without tax payer assistance. My tax dollars shouldn't be going to this peace of shit.

  • @Warpath2198 Your are stupid every gov. should invest in smart future

  • @pakruy OMG...this isnt Communist CHINA...The Goveernment you are referring to is us!!!! You want all of that Research and Development coming out of your paycheck?! Because.....if our gov(we the people)invest in the future, it comes out of our pay. Corporations invest in the future through their profits and revenue streams, because.....they wanna stay in business.

  • @kiiiro For once the gouvernment spend's it s money with intelligence.

  • @Warpath2198 exactly!!!! Looks like a lot posters here do get it. Thank, goodness.

  • i want my flying car... it's the 21st century. WHERE IS MY FLYING CAR!?!

  • wow, shes a bad salesman

  • I don't give a shit about consumption. I want car that drives good and has room.

  • It's time to quit judgin people who are tryn to help gas problems and give them our support !! Good going keep thinkn like u and not a follower:))

  • Hybrid cars are actually better than electric only. If we change all the cars to electricity only we will have to burn a lot more petroleum to make energy and there are losses to distribute that energy. Besides that the battery is bigger and more expensive and the autonomy is shorter. Prius is still the answer when you think in smart drive. Two wheels electric vehicles are a good bet to the close future.

  • the hybrid vehicle, all the disadvantages of a conventional combustion engine, whit none of the advantages of an electric car.

you still have to maintain the I.C.E and because its there the car is heavy. take it out, and add a few more batteries, you could get 60miles and have less weight and NO maintenance on the engine.

  • What it is a glorified hybrid. From what i hear the toyota model does better on mpg.

  • You know when 85% of Americans are plugging in their cars at night.. gas prices will drop to record lows and electric bills will soar.. to record highs..... Then we will be back here in 2030 talking about how there is a new car out that does not use electricity just gas!!! lol it is a cycle everybody can't you see this??

  • @Laughtime At $40,000, I'm not going to be able to buy such a car. 70-80% of Americans (as she says), don't have enough to buy this car. It's a joke to me. An all electric car with a range of say 200 miles per charge would be better.

To me, this is Chevy saying: "We want to look like we are trying to make more efficient cars, but we still want to appease the big oil companies by allowing it to burn their product"

  • @HunterXray Yes you are right about that! The price tag is laughable. And you can see the oil companies cracking their knuckles. lol

  • "Um... um... and... *awkward silence*" are they really into the product?

  • Tesla and Nissan Leaf are evs worth buying. This is just sad. I'm just glad it doesn't use any emissions.

But the design doesn't look bad at all.

  • I am looking forward to it.

  • it sure looks good. but 40 miles is pathetic :( especially with projected sale price $40K ... especially compared to Nissan Leaf which will go 110 miles and cost 32K ? I think Chevy could have done much better.... but again, this is America, without much competition they don't have to, yet. I'll wait till 2012 for the competition to come in and battery technology to mature a bit ... not to mention 1.5 year in the field feedback :)

  • @Satvic I agree with you. I have been waiting, Those areas will be a huge competition with many car industries. once people see results we will see prices and which will work best. I am already tired of gasoline prices, I drive less now, I ride bike more. Cant afford gas anymore.

  • 40 Miles is pethatic after all the bail out and all, it's not nearly enough, it's not worth talking about. At least 120 miles per charge.....

  • @kuvceebxab1 well said

  • She has no idea what she's talking about...

  • the ev1 has been rborn, thinks p.s. you all are still dumbass's for what u did to the ev1.

  • She seems really nerous. Isn't she proud of this achievement? This camera crew probably surprised her a little bit but. "Know what you're going to say." So this is a plug in hybrid? Where does the "engine generator" get its power from? Unleaded fuel, right?

  • when we gonna have those in greece???? l want mine!!!!

  • Awesome! Chevy got it right, finally a modern econo-box that isn't embarassing. Does anyone know what kind of price range this vehicle will fall into? Or how much it weighs? If chevy can build these and make them affordable I would buy one in a heartbeat.

  • Ok, this doesn't make sense. They get so much right on this car, but did you see the shifter? It looks like a self-destruction pull lever you'd see on Aliens.

  • no no wait evry thing as electric car zero emission or hydrogen car but not gasoline please save our jobs usa

  • i want to see what happens with the batteries if you have an accident, or if someone crash and the car falls into a lake or a river, i dont think the acid in the batteries its ecofriendly, or if it will work on extreme heat, like in arizona

  • they are litium ion batteries, like in a cell phone or laptop, not acid car batteries and im sure they do some extreme conditions testing

  • @ricardoblacksabbath the heat should be no problem as long as the car can compensate for the temperature. heat tends to increase battey capacity but at the expense of its life, so i think charging and discharging % less (still get about the same energy out) to bring up the life. the opposite is done for cold weather.

  • @konic40 who said anything about the ford gt? it is a great car, but the european ones had aftermarket alarm systems, thats what kept going wrong on clarksons. but he did buy it back, didnt he?

  • the reply seems to have gone to the wrong comment, but neway u said ford gt, buy it back? u mean he just kept it, after waiting so long to get the piece of shit he might as well

  • obviously you dont watch top gear, because top gear loves fast fords, even most slow ones. in case you were wondering, the ford gt40 was clarksons dream car but he cant fit into it, so he got a gt with the aftermarket alarm system thats in the euro gts. it kept malfunctioning, so he sent it back to ford and got his money back. soon after, he bought it back from ford. later he sold it and got his gallardo, which he has since sold for a mercedes. he goes through cars quickly

  • here's a idea that might work for GM.

If they can get the volt to run 65 to 70 miles on a single charge before the motor kick in and sell the car 2500 dollars less than the new Insight from Honda, they might make a profit. but no, it'll be more expensive than the Lacrosse and in Gm fashion, UNRELIABLE.

  • i think its expensive as well, probably due to the battery, Li-ion, NiMh would have been cheaper. i hope they don't keep those buttons seems hard to find the right one while driving. The storage behind the gear lever is retarded. why would i want to have to put the can in drive just to get to it

  • i love how everyone bashes us automakers for cuting corners, but when they do use the best tech, people say its too expensive and they wont make any money! i highly doubt this tech will only go into the volt, there is already a caddilac concept with this platform

  • when have automakers ever used the best tech? all they ever do is hold back. Li ion is expensive but ppl will still love it, but making optional battery packs would get it in the hands of more ppl

  • corvette zr1? is that holding back? zo6? ford gt? saleen s7

  • i thought we were talking about fuel consumption and electric cars.

beside the ford gt is shit, Jeremy Clarkson has one and had to send it back to ford to be fixed

  • Okay i looked through all the comments to see if anyone complained about this woman. Am I the only one that thinks she is a HORRIBLE product manager.. and can barely speak with a camera in front of her face. If I hear "ummm" one more time I plan to slit my wrists and pour salt in the wound.

  • This is just another way to have all the executives of other countries running the used to be Home of the Free and the Brave. This is America People. I guess our President doesn't understand either.

  • plus who's to say that this car would eventually meet a demise like the EV-1? anything that works for GM, they F*** it up

  • The EV-1 got pulled because most of them sat on the lot. Most people didn't want a car that was dead after 90 miles.

  • @mustangdj1 yeah if you watch who killed the electric car...lots of people showed initial interest but when the cars were available, very few stepped up to the plate. I think the lease only option didnt help either.

  • here's the problem with this car, IT STILL RUNS ON GAS. GM had an all electric car and they scrapped it. now they are putting out this P.O.S in 2011? It'll be another gas guzzling vehicle that you'll eventually have to turn your wrench on plus

$38,000 to $42,000 is wayyyyy too expensive for me. I can buy 2 priuses for that much

  • Gas Guzzler? In my case, I'd be able to make my round trip commute without any gas, and it only takes about 10 kwh to charge... at $0.115 cents per kwh, it would only cost me $1.15 per day vice $6 for a car getting 20 mph. Then I'd only burn gas on the weekends, and even then not much.

  • Fire that girl. Extended range is 40 miles? I consider extended range to be more than a 1000 miles per fill. What is that crap?? And I like that is has a black roof. Great for Florida in the sun. Will heat up quicker and never cool down. I am glad they are broke, idiots.

  • Extended range refers to the fact that you can keep driving after the battery is run down, as opposed to previous electric vehicles that were completely dead in the road. Then it uses the gas motor to run the electric engine. Seems like a pretty effecient design. Most of the newer hybrid cars are comming out with solar panels to run cooling fans when parked in the sun... I'd be surprised if that isn't the case with the volt.

  • Oh yuck! the concept was very nice. This just looks too Camryish. I'll pass.

    40 Miles a day/per charge? Useless POS.

  • Wow, looks good. Im gonna buy one

  • Wash a nice concept. Now it looks like crap.

  • yeah this sounds like bs the old volt was way nicer kinda like the new camaros but this new gm prius wish they were made with a better quality tho

  • Chevrolet Volt is one of the cars mas thin unlike the Japanese cars of blow with a mace that are a pure garbage ............

  • SEE IT IN TEN YEARS.

  • Respectfully disagree again, what? I m no dealer. Ask restoration guys at old cars shows what big vehicles are easiest to restore. All "media" ="to mediate & lessen all types of most respected tradtions, a "U S melting pot media". News we commonly see on TV posts news very different then what soldiers use, most mobilizing unstoppable units as TV crews have died on TV showing us literally 24 7 what outlasts in the most unsurvivable environment. We lost 2 men before ed of war simulation training.

  • Facts; Chevy, Safest due to outlasting mobility in more types of situations. The electric system outlasts because GM has gold tips for many years on the ends of many type of electric connections for most starts in any weather Years later. Options lists go on seemingly forever that add for driver confidence for a family or safety related. Chevy & GMC Big Pick up truck 4 wheel steering 2002-2003,ask anyone. OnStar saves lives & more. GM preferred by Gov., but to much GM tech = million jobs lost

  • TV News crews died on TV for you to see what is the most unstoppable, out mobilizing and outlasting, GM cars & trucks = highest resale value, see any resale book or ask the pro's at car any type of car shows. Chevrolet does not need anywhere as much restoration on average. GM won most manufacture performance endurance races too! 1st sales problem; the competition is foreign Governments, known to pay for the competitions metal, &much of GM's work unadvertised. Check Chevy resale $ any Yrs. later.

  • Thank you, Chevy dealer

For a number of years, Toyota autos have had the highest resale value. Made-in-USA Toyota cars! Ford trucks beat GM on truck resale value.

  • because they have GM= Garbage Management and General Morons

  • Do GM really deserve to have the US Govt's bail out? I feel like the whole company is run by children. Stop making shitty cars like Saturn, Pontiac, Saab, Hummer etc.Haven't they learn from the Japs about max production? The thing it gets me is that they made the EV1 and it was great but they decide to kill it, crush it and now they have to start all over again. Dumb cunts. making big ass engines with low ass power.learn from the europeans and Japs mate.

  • its true they should learn to not be so cheap now they regret it cuz their cars dont sell u cant sell garbage for the same price of other quality and expect people to then returne for more garbage

  • I would love to buy this car as soon as it is released assuming I can get a base model for 35k or less. More than that and nevermind, it's not worth going hungry to save the planet.

  • Yes I dream about the EV1 from Garbage Morons!

  • yeah thats nice Christi too bad ur company is goin' belly up and GM is 5-10 years behind the times. ha ha look at her at 0:55

  • It's better than the Toyota Prius, that's just a stupid toy!

  • are you ready to gamble $32K on an unproven technology

the volt is the ultimate dream vehicle as you keep dreaming to have it

  • Plenty were willing to gamble $25K on the Prius, which was (and in my opinion, still is) an unproven technology.

Plenty of people gamble $100K on the Tesla, and their are less of those on the road than Bricks in a wall.

  • Chill, It's only 23K. Figure you didn't make much. Go back and figure what to do with your time than watching YouTube.

  • the mass market can only afford a car $25K or less

are you ready to gamble $45K on an unproven technology?

it wont sell as no one will be able to afford it.

only the few rich who does not care how much a gallon of gas can buy this if it even ever comes out or proves itself

  • It won't be $45K, NO ONE has said that or even guessed it.

The latest estimates are $40K, and it will likely qualify for a $7,500 tax rebate because of it's partial-zero emission status.

That brings it down to $32.5K, or about the price of a Buick. I see a LOT of Buicks on the road.

  • I may be a shallow guy but i need something for my animal brain. I'm not talking about swimsuits, here, but more PASSION and ENTHUSIASM in the presentation, please. Have some PRIDE with your product. Make me WANT this car..!

  • People aren't buying it because it isn't for sale yet.

Personally, I don't see why someone who would happily plunk down $25,000 for a car that (sans *feel-good* electronics) would go for about $15,000 otherwise (I'm talking about the Prius) would have a problem in the World buying something actually worth the $32,500 (that's a guessed price, based on the $7,500 tax credit it'll probably qualify for) you're paying.

  • This is more of a catch all. Works for most people who drive to work (statistically, most people drive less the 40 miles per day to work and back) AND allows them the peace of mind knowing they can depend on it as a "go everywhere" car on the weekends.

I'd be willing to bet that once the concept is proven solid (meaning when people start buying it) that they will make an all electric version (replacing the engine with additional batteries, etc.)

  • im waiting. I live Northern California & have nothing. we will have to wait. the president can make a lot of new & really good things happen. Ford GMC could turn there sales around. hay it there lay offs. why should government bale there butt out. they have nothing I want from them.

  • I appreciate GM finally woke up(or at least is pretending to). However there are a lot of fishy things, not to mention that for a product manager she was not convincing at all. she is trying to sell this vehicle as much as I want to mary an aligator right now. maybe afterall GM is just one of the "dinosaurs" that will die soon because is incapable to adapt to the actual needs!

  • If it was more like the Tesla id be impressed, this is a car they should have made years ago

  • Maybe Tesla should get a bailout instead!

  • I really hope GM wont make the same mistake when they scrapped the EV1. That car would have saved the company if they invested more in advertising and people would buy wan them. I want this company to succeed in EVs!

  • Hello Christie, I hope you got your resume all sharpened.

This car is like "Too little, too late from GM never should have killed the EV1. Now it would be perhaps an EV2 or 3 already, looking something like the Volt, but with all electric.

  • i don't like it. it still uses motor oil and gasoline and tune ups and oil changes

  • What are you, 150 years old? :)

When was the last time you had a "tune up"?

An extra $35 every three to six months for Wal-Mart to replace the (with such a small engine, it probably won't use 2 quarts) oil.

For that $35 (probably less) you have a vehicle that, for 70% of Americans, will never use a drop of gas on trips during the week.

However, will take them clear across country on the weekends if they so choose.

    American's will buy this.

  • I like it. I agree not using oil is a big thing but using both is not so bad.

  • oh........... a GASOLINE ENGINE generator kicks in like a 1.4 liter chevy aveo engine ok.....

    so its a HYBRID !

  • Lol Yeah what a rip, there are other hybrids in the world, i thought they developed a FULL electric car! I mean if it was a hybrid then at least have a diesel engine, or hydrogen fuel cell! but this is just another hybrid, nothing new...And to tell you the truth i would rather just buy a diesel vw golf...

  • If I could import one, I'd go one step higher in terms of fuel economy and get a VW Polo.

  • @emforty2 a series hybrid, you gas engine runs a generator which charges the batteries (it's more efficient this way). with a prius the engine is connected to the wheels and is always on. with this car you could drive all week off the batteries at 0mpg.

  • @algea07 recent changes to the volt by GM connected the combustion engine to the wheels using planetary gear transmission. also the MSNBC review by its own auto engineers that tested the recent volt found out you can't run pure electric as the ICE kicks in after 35mph or highway speeds much just like the Prius.

basically an overpriced Prius to be made affordable by taxpayers subsidy. GM trying to leapfrog toyotas technology but cant

  • Sweep Detroit auto into the dumpster

    Bring in Tesla Motors

Give Tesla motors 50 billion to bury Detroit big for all time

  • Tesla has made 1 car and that's the Roadster what a family car but its an American company (made in England) so I do like them

  • Neato!

  • they should use a small turbine or diesel engine for the backup... it could charge the batteries very quickly and extend the range

  • notice that NOBODY, NOWHERE when they talk about Volt, will mention mpg, which is 150-200 mpg - IF they dont sabotage it and let gas engine charge the batteries after those 40miles el. The latest news is they won't do it. Why?? Did Exxon &co already persuaded them?

  • GM needs to fire its car designers. and maybe its engineers while they are at it.

  • wow she dont no wat she talkin about

  • What gets me is you create a great looking concept car that we were all waiting for, then build an ugly piece of crap with an out of site price tag. What a bunch of dumb asses

  • if you got your info from sources other than youtube you might know that when they tested the concept in the wind tunnel it was as efficient as a brick wall being pushed by a truck that's why the re-design

  • Why the EV1 in 1995 had 120 miles range but now Volt has only 40 miles in 2010???

Why GM is ling again,STOP THE LOBBY FOR THE PETROL !!!

GM had crushed the EV1 because their batery's wore two good!

  • The new volt has only 40 miles per charge because of the new better battery technology, and because its a chevy ;-( ? hmmm, yea why does it have worse range lol. What gm doesn't realize because its head is stuck in its butt, is, everyone even remotely interested in this car will order one of the new production model all electric Tesla sedans that are also supposed to be along about that same time with a 200 or more mile range.

  • nice, interesting ,very practical...

(for a company that used to build huge cars)

but seriously American car design is boring !!!

  • GM you better get an electric car that can go 150-200 miles per charge for 20-30k, or Toyota is going to continue to smash you. The technology is here, its been here for years and if you dont implement it, your going down.

  • When and where can I buy one ?

  • What a liar! If it's just a 40-mile-range EV, they can use lead-acid, don't need 400 lbs. of Lithium!! What a dummy, she doesn't even know that NOBODY COMPLAINED ABOUT "GETTING STRANDED", THAT WAS A GM LIE!!

  • You should know that the director of that WKTEC crockumentary is rooting for the Volt. Your hysterical ranting is damaging my worldview on EV's, you know...

  • The VOLT...is a HOAX. GM would have already released it, using lead-acid batteries, if it were serious.

But wanting to wait for the perfect battery is just an excuse to wait until gas prices come down.

It's a LIE, GM won't even admit that the EV1 was a success, or that the RAV4-EV still runs with over 100 miles range on a charge.

  • Do us all a favor and stop spamming every freaking Volt-related video with your hysterical rants and grow the hell up.

  • This car will be very expensive - out of reach for average Joe America. (reported to be around 35-40K)

  • This is just the car we need in this crappy economy.

  • EV IS THE FUTURE !

  • Im impressed but if gm can't make normal reliable cars...how's this one going to be considering it is brand new technology?

  • sexy car!
