Dang, i gotta see this movie. My dad kinda foundout when i was 14, but i denied it, and said something like "there is therapy for being gay" and I have been affraid to tell him since. I am now 24, not sure if he knows, not sure who all knows. But seeing people go through this is wrong. The only way for me to do my part is to out myself. I dont feel comfortable with having it easier than other gays, just because I have been too much of a corward to out myself or tell people.

what zacks dad dose not get is its the fear and shame that "love in action" promotes that causes gay to do things like abuse drugs and commit suicide. Even being promiscuous, besause if it bad and a sin already way not. the drugs, suicide and the promiscuity that helps spead aids, this all adds to gays having a shorter life expectancy in the usa. in places were being gay is accepted, they have the same life expectancy as any oneelse.
I can understand the concept of therapy to cure what is believed to be a mental illness, even though I don't think it works, but every therapist knows that forcing someone into a cure they do not want is completely futile. You cannot force someone to change themselves if they are not first willing to. It is the first step in any process of self-development. This 'refuge' option seems to be a desperate attempt at indoctrination. It doesn't even pretend to be serious therapy.
I don't believe in "ex-gay" therapy. I read a magazine article a while back about a gay man who tried it and it didn't work. I don't believe in the term "ex-gay", because in my mind, it's a cop-out from the perspective of a gay person-turned straight. You are who you are, and if you're gay there's nothing to be ashamed of.
I can't blame the parents, they are just as brainwashed. I wish people would make the connection that its the shame that these homophobes place these gay teens that leads to the drugs and the other negive side of the "gay lifestyle" if such a thing really exists.

I went to LIA last summer voluntarily. I know the program helped me a lot, but if someone doesnt want to do something they wont get the help when they are forced. It wont work that way.

I'm Zach's current neighbor. Most amazing person I've met in years. We've become the closest friends and I had no idea that this had happened because of him until last night. He's a courageous independent individual and I care about him dearly. Now, we are off to go grocery shopping together :)
@MIKECNW I don't know if he has or not but I think it is likely, his dad reminds me of my dad and he seem to only be concerned about his child's happiness and health. When Zach brings home a good boy he is in love with and they see how happy he is, they will change there minds. Dang, i gotta see this movie. My dad kinda foundout when i was 14, but i denied it, and said something like "there is therapy for being gay" and I have been affraid to tell him since. I am now 24, not sure if he knows, not sure who all knows. But seeing people go through this is wrong. The only way for me to do my part is to out myself. I dont feel comfortable with having it easier than other gays, just because I have been too much of a corward to out myself or tell people.

what zacks dad dose not get is its the fear and shame that "love in action" promotes that causes gay to do things like abuse drugs and commit suicide. Even being promiscuous, besause if it bad and a sin already way not. the drugs, suicide and the promiscuity that helps spead aids, this all adds to gays having a shorter life expectancy in the usa. in places were being gay is accepted, they have the same life expectancy as any oneelse.

I can understand the concept of therapy to cure what is believed to be a mental illness, even though I don't think it works, but every therapist knows that forcing someone into a cure they do not want is completely futile. You cannot force someone to change themselves if they are not first willing to. It is the first step in any process of self-development. This 'refuge' option seems to be a desperate attempt at indoctrination. It doesn't even pretend to be serious therapy.

I don't believe in "ex-gay" therapy. I read a magazine article a while back about a gay man who tried it and it didn't work. I don't believe in the term "ex-gay", because in my mind, it's a cop-out from the perspective of a gay person-turned straight. You are who you are, and if you're gay there's nothing to be ashamed of.
