why wud they bring dolphins to the navy ???? its soo stupid fight ur own battles but dont bring poor cute animals in to it thats just soo patheic to me get a life !!!!
robs had been trained by germans to blow up ships, this is nothing different. One thing is for sure, after tight nuclear war its silent. future is patient, she knows her time will come.
Dolphins...a nymphomaniac mammal masquerading as a fish...i guess that's the perfect thing to hunt down agun toting wildman masquerading as a muslim...
All in all it seems a little unethical, and worse, a costly addition to antiterror measures. If AlQ starts attacking us via the ocean, they are better funded and we are worse off than I ever imagined.
Don't get me wrong, I realize that sea lions and dolphins are intelligent creatures who could save lives, and I have little opposition to enlisting them in those sort of measures. But seriously, to use dolphins and sea lions to detect enemy combatants?
I remember some news reports just after 9/11 where mention was made to the threat to our ports because AlQ was training with scuba equipment. But a war with Iran is not a war with AlQ. I believe the military fears the use of mines within the shipping lanes, thus threatening both commerce and the battleships themselves. Right or wrong, the primary use of seals and dolphin by the military is finding such underwater devices.
Actually, I understand the implications of mines, and I think that while it is not wholly ethical to use dolphins in such mine-stopping efforts, it is a viable use fiscally. But the article is actually referring to use dolphins and sea lions to spot people, not mines. And off the american coast... where I think the odds of finding AlQ are minimal at best. Easier just to cross in Mexico or Canada.
I have heard that some of the dolphin have been even to taught to kill enemy swimmers, which is sort of scary if true. I know that they're capable of it, since they can kill fairly large sharks, but I would think one man in a wetsuit would look pretty much like any other man in a wetsuit, so mistakes could be made. --I've also heard that some of missions they've trained them for can be suicide missions. :(
the suicide mission is a sad but true fact. The navy trains the dolphins to appraoch enemy vessels, or mines, with harness backpack full of explosives attached...
The Fckng Capitalism already corrupted the world. There is no turning back. So they can use whatever they want for the next 10-30 yrs. Mankind failed . We dont deserve this world.
If the Navy cared so much about the dolphins, why haven't they curtailed their active sonar programs which cause THOUSANDS of dolphins to beach themselves every year globally.
If that's not putting them in harm's way, I don't know what is!
Awhile back, I worked with a veterinarian (an ex-Navy SEAL) who was asked to re-enlist to take care of the Dolphin in San Diego. He declined. --This program has been around a long time, but it will be of little help against the missles Iran will be using against our battleships if hostilities begin. Mines in the shipping lanes WILL be a problem though.
You're telling me they've trained seals how to speak and furthermore understood animal medicine? Thats amazing. Has he been able to train his flippered friends?
Oh well i am not really interested in the finer details. I am just amazed that they have taught a seal to speak and understand complex tasks. How the World changes.
The use of dolphins has actually been an incredible asset, their abilities are amazing. Of course, how many times have divers from differing sides ever confronted each other? I'd like to know that. If we can't even see a full blown invasion from Japan coming, we got bigger fish to fry.
i wonder how many USO's a dolphin see's in a day

Uk Guardian Oct 2006. And Ukraine Times 2006.
I don't store articles on my computer (space limits, I'm sure you understand) so I don't have better sources.

I'm sorry, but that sounds so funny.

I'm afraid you are sorely mistaken. They are used for port security and mine location. The animals are put little, if any, harm what so ever.

I understand their mission is to help humans, but really
shouldn't humans be developing technologies to match
the dolphins' great skills? Also, what about if the dolphins
die in war? What happens to that?
quelita28 1 year ago
They don't kill the enemy swimmer. They in fact tag the swimmer with a beacon and let their human teammates track and intercept them.
Southloop 3 years ago
Tagging a person would be much more humane,... for the dolphin, not the man.

WTF? --A veterinarian is an animal doctor. He treats their illness and injury. He does not train animals. Animal trainers train animals.
