This generalizes in a way you didn't mention. You only consider the case of period-3 starting tricks, but it works for any number. With B objects, you can turn a valid, ground-state period P trick into a B-1 object trick with period P+1, if the throw you append is T = B-P-1. You can also repeat: From 777 you get 7773, which is a valid ground-state 6 ball trick, period 4. So you can add B-P-1 = 6-4-1 = 1 at the end to get 77731, a valid, period-5, 5 ball trick. But: T>= 0.
