Fairly sure if the dog did sit on the cat in a way that was dangerous the cat would sink it's claws in and the dog would get up pretty damn fast. Besides by being so safety conscious that you force them to stay apart you would be degrading their quality of life for definite, based on the chance that one of them might get hurt; so is it really worth it?

If you dont let your animals play they start to think that themselfs being together is a bad thing and will begin to hate eachother. Dogs are smart. i have a dog thats a russian caucasian sheep dog and hes 162 pounds. and he plays with my cats kittens all the time, he paws at them and opens his mouth. they never Snap down and bite hard. their first instinct is to run away from somthing if it hurts them.
