@TheFigure88 that my friend, is a co2 indicator. It has some tank water and KH standard in the bulb part. color of liquid indicates level of dissolved CO2. It really is helpful to see co2 levels at a glance, but the glass element adds to overall visual design of the tank.
@iGeekAquariums 1) rich substrate 2) emersed growth 3) CO2 injection 4) patience, leave alone and don't fiddle too much with it after the conditions above are met. Good Luck!
@JacintaSolano get a 2 liter soda bottle. Drill a hole in the top and insert airline tubing, silicone around the tube/top to airproof. Fill bottle with 2 cups of sugar and fill to top with warm water. Add half a pack of instant yeast to bottle with sugar mixture, shake, cap and run airline to checkvalve and then into a diffuser in the tank. Presto, homemade CO2 generator....good for about 3 weeks, then repeat above!
@advtactics01 You want to inject CO2 because more often than not, the limiting factor for growth is a carbon source. The limiting factor in most aquariums that have high light and excess of nutrients ie. nitrogen, phosphorous is Carbon.
@ttle17 I found Hemianthus Callitrichoides Cuba. They said :Hemianthus callitrichoides is one of the smallest aquarium plants in the world, and creeps over the bottom with millimetre-sized round leaves. If planted in small clumps a few centimetres apart, it will spread rapidly and cover the bottom like a carpet. Hemianthus callitrichoides is an attractive foreground plant for aquairum lawns and carpeting. Found on Cuba west of Havana. Very Rare as its very new to the to aquarists.
@w3bt3k thanks, though I already got the full name and already got it planted in my tank.. had upload my tank on youtube as well.. still lots to do with it tho.
@Laurensnl lets see, $10-tank, $12-substrate, Rocks(free from backyard), spare airline, used soda bottle, $2-check valve, $5- co2 diffuser, sugar water and yeast, $18-compact fluorscent fixture, and $14 worth of HC....so, I say total $16 total.(not counting shrimp). It really is all about technique, remember!!!!! start off with rich substrate, emersed growth to begin and then CO2 inject.
@cardcityrocker It took approx. 1week. I left the light on 24hrs and slowly added water to keep 2/3 of the plant submerged. The trick is to have a rich substrate and always keep the tops in the air. Good Luck!
Awesome, I couldnt figure out if it was aquatic at first. That effect is really far out.

also, do you mind telling me the brand/substrate you use?
aznlilboiz 1 month ago
@aznlilboiz The substrate is a full bag of CaribSea's FloraMax Red. I think I might have added alittle bit of Seachem's flourite as well.
ttle17 1 month ago
do you turn off your co2 injection at night or when the light turned off? will the co2 injection effect the shrimps?
aznlilboiz 1 month ago
@aznlilboiz No, the amount of CO2 produced by a DIY system is too small to cause shrimps any problems even with lights off.

What shrimp are they? Cherry red?

@basefrog yup.

Do you think you'll make a tutorial video on how to make a homemade CO2 generator? I think that would make a great vid.

MrDf1976 8 months ago
@MrDf1976 thanks for the comment. Carpet is HC...the secret is to start off emersed with rich substrate, then CO2 inject when submerged and rooted.
