  • Now this is beautiful. Fuck Daryl.

  • Apparently!

  • am i the only one who thinks that the bass player is being an absolute dick?

  • @mynameisnickherpderp

YES you're alone. His staccato play his wonderful and is like an doubtful onlooking elf jumping around this crying stream of the guitar : so complementary !

Moreover, I find it really similar to Alain Caron style, a french bass player !

WOW this Firth of Fifth solo is a gem !!!

  • @kalisteboat I just feel, this is a guitar solo and shouldn't be an opportunity for the bass player to be playing and acting in such an attention drawing way, I'm not debating against his playing ability nor the sounds he's creating i just feel in the context of a guitar solo thee bassist should know his place.

  • @kalisteboat

Ooops, Caron is from Quebec ... sorry ;-)

  • @mynameisnickherpderp in what way? he doesn´t enter the high register even once.....no slaps or pops....i think he is doing an excellent job keeping a fantastic and tight groove with setting the stage for Steve....

  • from Genesis... the revelations....

  • a masterpiece.... un capolavoro!

  • DAT SUSTAIN

  • I wonder what would have happened if Steve had stayed with Genesis.

  • I would gladly give up my house to see the full Genesis line on stage one last time

  • Thanks, Steve.

  • Superb...

  • Some of the most glorious sound ever created by a human being..... takes me to heaven every time I hear it....

  • If there is truly a soul (individual and collective) in this world, Steve Hackett's strings have touched its inner core...

  • Damn!!!!!

  • niiiiiiiice

  • Steve Hacket, Master of the Guitar!... oh wait, should be The Steve Hackett

  • @DOREMISOLO ▲▲▲

  • Ehm @Creepy ... this is NOT a Les paul with a floyd Rose ... this is a Fernandes with the sustainer inside!!!! ;-)

  • Fabulous!!

  • the bass-player is having the trill of is life, { wow!]

  • the roling stone magazine is so stupid ..the best guitars in history and steve hackett???

  • @gonzataker I think all of us can agree that Steve is the Best Guitarist of all time, Jimi Hendrix has a beautiful story and all but Steves skills hit you hard.

  • This pure Joy

  • steve cracking on no hold back gives it good

  • What a cracking performance! Lovely! :)

  • Man Steve really makes his guitar sing on this one!!! =)

  • I love that ethereal sound of Steve playing

  • New progressive rock coming out soon band type ''innerspaceband''

  • brividi.. Grazie Maestro!

  • Very good

  • do you hear Gabriel too,in your mind ?

  • Steve Hackett's guitar solos are delicious to my ears

  • 0:41 - 2:13 makes my spine tickle. One of the top three prog guitarists along with Fripp and Howe.

  • thank you steve, this never will be reach again, perfect

  • Massive solo

  • Thank you Mr. Hackett!!!

  • I'd rather listen to one note played by Hackett than one million notes played by a shredder.

  • 0:26, in the center, to the left of the lady with gray clothes... the non-musicaltaste woman...

  • Great... But still, so less soul than in the SEBTP version. Not only because of the solo, but mainly because of the background music. For me, at least.

  • Great! The drummer is superb too!

  • Who disliked this? Are you insane?

  • timeless...

  • This is what plays when you walk through the doors of heaven.

  • Q temazo por dios lo escuche gracias a un presona muy especial MARA GUILLEN t quiero pendeja mía sos un amor!

  • @kenyata86

jaja me alegro q t halla gustado mi amor♥ hermoso

  • one of the best guitar solo on earth!!!! Very brilliant and amazing.

  • this solo takes me to heaven...........

  • GRANDE!

  • what kind of effect is he using?

  • @jakitoh that's called the volume knob bro

  • @jachapa2 i think is the volume pedal... and some delay....

  • Esa melodía me lleva al cielo

  • beautiful,amazing,superb....call it all in one.

  • i like the academic way of his playing. have opened his music - absolutely beauty.

  • now he is the only one, who plays genesis songs.

    And he still looks young

  • One of the most haunting pieces of music ever, it still has an effect me from when i heard it in 73 at a spellbound 13years old to an old cynic now!

  • this stuff make me cry

  • THIS is why God invented the guitar.

  • Robert Fripp was asked to take Steve Hackett's place in the GENESIS when he left... but he turned the offer down. Pity... He would be THE ONLY proper replacement and the music of the band would have taken an interesting turn... at least as long as he stayed with them...

  • When Peter Gabriel left GENESIS it was still very much the band we knew, for a while... until Steve decided to leave also... After that, at least as far as i'm concerned, it was... kiss your ass goodbye !

  • Genesis , voltem PF , a boa música anda desaparecida !

  • F'in AWESOME- Great Song, Great Guitarist!

  • Fuck shredders; this is the best guitar solo on the face of the planet.

  • Steve Hackett and David Gilmour....all day, every day

  • @theone456 add Steve Rothery to the Team and i'm with you my friend! Rock On!

  • @theone456 Why listen to anything else?

  • Greeeeeeaaaaaaaaatttt

  • Amazing......saw him perform this in Vancouver, Canada in November 1993. Great Show.

  • c est sublimmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmme ,majestueux ho que ouiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii bizou

  • I want a Les Paul with a Floyd Rose too T.T

    1:16 Wohaaaa That's what I call sustain +_+

  • @CreepyGuy995 It's a customized Les Paul by Fernandes with a built in sustainer

  • @geraberl I think I love this man lol

  • @geraberl

damn thats a nice sustainer then. i had a little jackson shredstick with a sustainiac pickup and it could never sound like this stuff...it put out super-gnarly feedback but not smooth butter sustain. these days a nice semi-hollowbody + MXR compressor gives me as much sustain as ill ever need!

  • @greeeenmachine sounds cool. Fernandez sell the sustainer as 'kits' that they claim will fit 'most guitars'. That's bollocks, I got one and took it down to my local music guitar tech guy and virtually every guitar i took with me he said, no way, as he would have to channel out too much wood from the body to pack it in. I ended up getting a Fernandez Revolver Elite with the sustainer built in. Have to say, it's an awesome guitar.

  • @CreepyGuy995 just buy one ^^ The Burny RLC 80 S is one of the modells that Steve plays

  • @CreepyGuy995 have you listened to "Twice around the sun" in the album "Darktown" ? you'll find the longer sustained guitar note ; ciao

  • @CreepyGuy995 it was clear,to find musicians here....where else ? ;))

  • The Master of all that is Guitar !!

  • @corum428 Amen Brother !!!!!

  • Superb! Many thanks for sharing

  • at times he plays only with his first and second fingers like Django?

  • he is truly underrated...

  • My favorite rendition of Firth's lead. The most caring way to play it. As The Master intended it.

  • Raj na ziemi cos pieknego leszeczarny1

  • can i get this great music on cd? was this concert on cd or dvd?

  • @btom22259 Yes its the Once Upon a Time DVD, Enjoy !

  • AIDS

On other news, this is epic.

  • i want his tone !!! how do i get it??

  • mitico....unico...brividi....

  • soo dope

  • What a great solo!

It´s a shame that only few people know him!

For me Jeff Beck is the master of the Strat and Steve Hackett is the master of the Paul!

  • man that part around 2:32 totally kicks my ass, surely the most underrated guitarist of all time!

  • dommage que cela sois si court.j'écoutais ce morceau en boucle a l'époque des cassettes dans la voiture avec un petit ampli deux fois trente.

la cassette est usée à cet endroit précis.

    génial morrceau de guitare solo.

  • i love it...just love it...

  • One of the greatest guitar solos of all time and definitely the best of the Genesis era. Steve Hackett.....a master without doubt.

  • @geraberl

WOW!! i was just in wonder, watching him play... fucking fantastic!!

  • Is the bass player playing a right-handed bass upside down?

  • @pyroseed13 Looks like it to me...

  • @geraberl My Bass tutor Terry Gregory.

  • AMO LA TECNICA DI QUESTO MAESTRO

  • Part of the soundtrack of my life.

  • that should be a wonderful life ;-)

  • @wakaday the sound track was the best part, I've seen the movie of your life, it stinks !

  • The title should be : Steve Hackett and his invention from Heaven !!!!

  • Io la seguivo con l'ottavino. Prova!

  • Absolutely beautiful! I now appreciate Darryl Stuermer's version less and less.

  • @JPWhitesnake Thanks for the correction :)

  • @geraberl Terry Gregory is on bass, Gary O'Toole is the drummer. Thanks for the upload, I have this on DVD and it's nice to have it handy on YouTube.

  • Real nice. Hackett cleverly blends a solo. Passion notes with some riffs to build it. I cannot believe someone said this was boring.

  • Steve Hackett,Andrew Latimer,David Gilmour best ever solo Guitar,if you like REAL MUSIC

  • This performance is very good, but I've heard and seen him do it better. Still one of the absolute best solos I've ever heard.

  • Comment removed

  • What guitar effect used Steve when was playing solo?

  • Vraiment extra.Merci Dario................Je l'ajoute à mes playlists

  • stupenda

  • @MrMightyslim well I suppose it also depends on the mood you're in at the time. But saying that it did kinda sound a bit boring, kinda like an outro to an opeth song or something.

  • @MrMightyslim Hell yeah. The whole time I was comparing it to Shine On You Crazy Diamond, and just wishing that I was listening to that instead

  • @MrMightyslim The comparison is absurd. God knows Gilmour is my favourite guitar player and main influence, but let me tell you that nobody could even dream to play this song like Hackett does. Seriously, with all my respect: if you don't find soul in this song, especially in the solo...well, it's your opinion, but I'm pretty sure that all of us don't share it!!!

  • Beautiful.. perfect..powerfull..great..tears coming out..

  • incredible....one of the most under rated guitar players of all time...sheer genuis

  • genius...one of the best songs ever made thanx to Steve !!!

  • If it is a Gibson, it certainly is a highly modified one. The Bridge and Tremolo are aftermarket, the placement of switches is different, the pickup covers are gone and probably has different pickups. So what you are hearing is absolutely maybe the wood from a Gibson.

    Big Ron

  • This is music from the soul

  • First off DarthKazi you got told. Secondly you must be a total retard. Gibson are fine instruments if can hear Hackett play and can appreciate it

  • @geraberl Gary O'Toole is the drummer! Terry Gregory is the bassist.

  • @geraberl The bass player is Terry Gregory. Gary O' Toole is the drummer!!!

  • He makes that guitar SING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thats billy sheehan on base

  • @DarthKazi - Really? I agree that the Gibson name means about as much as "sworn" does in law enforcement, but back in the day my Les Paul was my world. I had Steve scratch his name in the back of my black Les Paul Custom (in the parking lot of Tower Records on Sunset). At first he said No, and then he was very very hesitant, and it barely went through the varnish. Looking back now it seems he had more respect for my guitar than I did... So, who built Steve's guitar?

  • @ReverbAndBeer Hell, I don't know who built it. I know Gibson will farm out guitars for artists and put their sticker on their headstock, just like Fender occasionally uses Warmoth parts for custom guitars or has a "shadow builder" make them. That's not news. Rich rockers can afford anything and the big Corporate makers will do whatever it takes to make the artist happy and, at the same time, fool the customer into thinking it was built in the same factory as their overprice POS...

  • @ReverbAndBeer Fernandes, it''s a stock item with a few bits and bobs.

  • @DarthKazi Lol, it's a Fernandes Sustainer with a few custom bits on it. Steve uses Les Pauls but he can't get the sustainer to work aswell in them. He currently uses a RLC80-s Les Paul Burny

  • @DarthKazi there is a really good recent video interview with SH on licklibrary. He states that that is in fact a '52 Gibson Gold Top which was his main guitar of choice with Genesis and the black one he uses more nowadays is a Fernandes Les Paul copy with built in sustainer, he gives a demo in the interview

  • @DarthKazi - Gibson do not put their name to something they haven't built.

  • @DarthKazi You are completely AND CERTAINLY 100% wrong about Les Paul's - I play a Start a lot too but my LP plays like butter & screams from time to time.

Checkout it's tone on my video tribute to Les "This Song's For You".

  • @DarthKazi It's a Fernandes custom!

  • Steve is the bomb....hands down....

  • 1:23 best bend in rock history. Maybe best solo too.

  • @gillan5 Damn you're right!

  • @DmitriOrtsiev Thank you!

  • Love You Steve. Youre the only member of Genesis I had the chance to meet personally, and you will remain an icon to me. I believe that Genesis will always miss you cause you were part of that Genesis sound never recreated equally after. The band died when you left.

  • I have always felt that Steve's contribution to the early Genesis sound was enormous but that he has evolved and thrived as a solo artist from day one. He would not have done so remaining in the band with the direction they took. He made the right move, and--look whose still turning out great music!

  • I love how Steve nods at the audience when he starts into the solo. It like he's saying " you guys know what's coming, don't you?" : - D

  • @LUDWIGPARIS He always nods to a guy towards his right all the time, even in interviews.

  • Forget about Page, Via, Vaughn, Sturmer, Clapton, Beck, Rothery, Gilmour etc. etc. Hackett is the man

  • Interesting that Steve still uses a hard connection for his guitar to the amp...must be a tone thing...anybody know why?

  • Who is the guy on bass, wow

  • @neonbreon Tony Gregory

  • @neonbreon The guy on bass is actually Terry Gregory. Left-handed, 5 string bass.

  • @neonbreon It's Terry Gregory on bass. (Gary O'Toole is the drummer!)

  • justamente en esos momentos en que la confusion reina terriblemente en la atmosfera me encuentro con el master Steve Hakett y todo se me hace transparente, saludos a todo el ser progresivo desde EL DESIERTO DE MINA NUEVO LEON MEXICO.

  • Vote for your top 5 Steve Hackett songs on his official Facebook page!

  • Ever since he first did this back in 1973 when the GREAT GENESIS had this song on the Selling England by the Pound Album, I've been HOOKED !! This section of the song and this solo by Hackett gives me chills every time I hear it. !! CLassic Stuff and they fianlly got inducted in o the Rock n Roll hall of fame, before even King Crimson, Yes and Emerson lake and palmer. GENESIS FOREVER !!!!

  • how does he make that increasing volume effect at 0:45?

  • I think you meant at 1;25 or 1:45 , however he does it, the guy os amazing !

  • @BigBadBobby1234 Bends the string up?
