  • He was the best coach I ever played under although briefly. My heart sank hearing of the news. As a young fella I played in a trial match for him against St George and got smashed by the then Kangaroo prop in the 1st 10 sec's of the game. Concussed and carried off to the sideline, Arty just smiled and said "welcome to the big league". He is a legend and my deepest sympathies go to his family. How sad!!! RIP brother!!!

  • I have no interest in football, but 66 is still too young, my neighbour was 43 and had a heart attack 4 weeks ago and went, you can only do your best to keep healthy, superfit people have expired :( Arty's contribution to Queensland Football will be remembered. RIP - I hope it was quick and painless.

  • RIP legend

  • what song?

  • I just met this legend at runaway bay on the gold coast , what a great guy , more than happy to talk. Your the real thing Artie, love your achievements

  • Artie Beetson & Doug Gailey - 2 of the hardest bastards ever in the history of the game.

  • What about the song?! That's deadset gold!

  • As a Souths supporter it pains me to say this but the 1974/75 Easts teams were the best club side i ever saw

  • In the 1974 Grand Final, when Captain Megaturd [Arthur Beetson] is on the way to scoring that try against Canterbury-Bankstown; it required someone to pick him up[literally] and dump him backwards - but Canterbury were just not strong enough!

  • Beetson is one of the best forwards of all time and easily the best ever Queenslander. And nice to see Saints and Canterbury getting thrashed.
